Did you watch the director's cut of TGTBTU? Worth a watch, even if there are some ponderous shots. Mind you they're ponderous shots of gorgeous scenery, every frame a painting blah blah. What it boils down to is the movie Tarantino wishes he made and rips off the most.


Must have a rewatch of the trilogy myself. The Ennio Morricone soundtrack alone is worth it.

Yep it was the 2014(?) extended version - apparently mastered from 4k according to forum nerds.  You are right with your Tarantino comment. I think his problem is he tries too hard to make a movie as good as this. Nothing against the guy, he makes good movies. But the dollars trilogy is my favorite film trilogy of all time (followed by the Vengeance trilogy and the the Star Wars trilogy)

You are right about the soundtrack too. Me and my flatmate actually had a discussion about the soundtracks. I actually rated a few dollars more higher than the other two, the only exception being ecstasy of gold which HAD BETTER be played at my funeral. (along with escape from New York 

As a kid I never noticed just how many actors were in more than one of the films. I think more parents should be watching these with the kids.

[Rob Zombie]

A new horror film (surprise there) from Rob Zombie. Looks like a similar style to House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects. While Mr. Zombie (that never fails to make me smile) only does one genre, he usually does a pretty good job of it. Anyone else have any interest in seeing this?

I posted a quick bit in the last movie watched thread, but now that it's the next day and I've had time to process my feelings about the film, I thought I'd put them here.

Firstly, I thought the film was great. Nothing wrong with it at all. I loved all the various cameos throughout the film. And there were a lot of great gags too. One of the biggest complaints I've read is that the ghosts look too fake...I actually heard them referred to as "Haunted Mansion Ghosts". I thought this was meant to be a childrens film. Just like how the haunted mansion is a childrens film. I did not go in expecting s#!7 your pants scary ghosts. The ghosts were perfectly fine.

Another common complaint I've read is that it's sexist because Chris Hemsworth is playing an idiot. Even though he is Australian. And how he acts on screen is how the majority of aussies are in real life. People say that he is objectified throughout the film...really? Women have been objectified in cinema since the beginning, and now finally they have switched it up and men are screaming that it's not fair? I had no problem with the way his character was portrayed.

The biggest complaint though is that all of these middle age fat balding nerds crying that their beloved franchise has been raped by Hollywood. Boo-f%$&%#-hoo. This isn't the first film to be remade. I'm a fan of the original The Day The Earth Stood Still. Was I upset when they made a modern version of it? No. Guess what. My copy of the original is still exactly the same as it was the day I got it. The creation of a newer version did not devalue the original one bit. If you really don't want to see your favorite childhood film ruined in a remake, then don't go. But don't cry like it's the worst thing that has ever happened. Because other people still want to see it.

If you haven't seen it, and you have kids, go and see it. If you haven't seen it and you don't have kids, go and see it all the same. It might be the last time you get to see [spoiler]Dan Aykroyd[/spoiler] on the big screen!

[Savage Wolverine]

Just read the collected Savage Wolverine. For someone who hasn't read a marvel book in a long time I found it quite enjoyable. The art was spot on, and the violence was good too. Some severed limbs and even [spoiler]The Hulk[/spoiler] getting claws driven into the top of his skull Considering that I didn't know the background of the other characters involved it was very easy to get in to, and I will be sure to get more similar works. 7/10

Ghostbusters

Great movie. Cool effects. Good casting. 8/10

I loved all the cameos. So many of them too. I actually preferred the subtle jokes to the loud shouty in your face ones. I'm not really sure what all the internet fuss was about regarding the film.

I very nearly went to see this at the cinema since they had a special showing on Sunday. Glad I didn't after reading the reviews now. I guess I was expecting far too much.

Had a Man With No Name marathon this weekend.

Or a Dollars Trilogy weekend if you prefer.

Classic films. I think that A Fistful Of Dollars has the best story. For a Few Dollars More has the best soundtrack. And The Good, The Bad And The Ugly has the best acting.

Can't wait for this. Loved the film. Also I believe there was a parody of the film in one of the Sinister Dexter strips. Although my old brain might just be imaging things there. Maybe someone can confirm or deny.

I've buggered my right arm. Luckily I'm left handed but any two handed activity (playing guitar, computer games, conducting an orchestra) is right out. I think I must have pulled something playing tennis. That will teach me for trying to get fit.
