Spikes

After catching that Sony advert for the first time in ages, i finally remembered to try and track this down - David Bowie - Sound and vision remix.
(And all going well, ill be getting to that Bowie exhibition at the V & A, this coming July).

Daft Punk's Random Access Memories goes straight in at number one on the album chart, which means their month-long residency at the top of the singles chart is ended by Naughty Boy and the incredibly annoying La La La. He got the money to start off in the music industry by appearing on Deal Or No Deal, you know. If the song gets on your tits, blame Noel Edmonds.

Dandy Warhols for me and this great song I'd forgotten how much I love it.

The Justice department has a good re-education programme-it's called five to ten in the cubes.

Good call. Excellent band. I often revisit Dandy Warhols. In fact due to you reminding me of them I'm listening right now to 'Dandys Rule Ok'.

The Dandy's seem oblivious to how badly they come across in DiG! tho.

At least frontman Courtney admits he has never creatively matched Anton Newcombe come the end.

That film features the best scene of a fan being kicked in the head by a lead singer I've ever seen. Courtney Taylor does appear to be a vain, delusional prick, but you can't argue with the tunes. Or the Vodafone money.

I'm talkin' shite but for some reason Giorgio by Moroder reminds me of the old theme tune to the Nemesis the Warlock game on the Spectrum.

Ours was a ZX Spectrum household, so I never played that one; I was going to ask you to whistle the tune, then I remembered Youtube. That brilliant Nemesis theme has the same air of melancholy to it as Giorgio, but I think it's the way the low-key repetition of both tunes builds almost subliminally into something which actually sounds quite heroic that's the connecting factor.

The Brian Jonestown Massacre – another excellent band. I haven't seen all of 'Dig!' other than some clips online. That kick incident was rather nasty. Just to be clear though, it was Anton Newcombe.

I'm cheating here, but the BBC's David Bowie: Five Years documentary is still up on iplayer. It cops out and adopts the usual talking heads format of most rock docs, but it also features some extraordinary archive material I've never seen anywhere before. It provides a fascinating illustration of how nothing new is ever created entirely from whole cloth (28 minutes and 10 seconds) and actual film of that 'Nazi salute' episode.

CLANG!

Jammy bastard; when you mentioned being in the same room as Tom Cruise the other month I just felt sorry for you, but I'm officially jealous of that. Out of curiosity, was the man who wrote Good Times and Le Freak cool at all?

Cool?

I now know why the word was invented. Coming back from the canteen I nearly dropped me tea and shat me heart out when I saw the silhouette at the door.

He's the nicest, coolest bastard I've ever met. SUPERCOOL. Can't believe he's 60 and has prostate cancer. He looks funkin' great.
