Off Topic / Anybody know anything about Royal Winton
06 October, 2005, 10:59:46 PM
G'day.

Completely off topic but I am trying to find information about some Royal Winton china I have obtained.

I've tried various different places to no avail so I'm clutching at straws & asking here in the hope that somebody's daytime job is something to with antiques.

It's three items best described as a bathroom set. A soap dish with lid, a large jug & a bowl to wash in. All in good condition. It's marked Royal Winton Grimwade with the bowl & jug additionally marked 9631.

I'm trying to find out what range they are from & how old they are.

Anybody?

Film & TV / More Dr Who
05 October, 2005, 07:37:57 PM
Just discovered Radio 7 has a Doctor Who series running at the moment. Think it's a Big Finish series starring the 8th Doctor, Paul McGann.

You can listen to it hear.

Possibly a useful Ebay tool.

It enables you to search for items that have been listed with spelling mistakes in & hopefully buy items that not many people have noticed.

Off Topic / The Meaning Of Tingo
26 September, 2005, 01:57:35 AM
Hi.

Received an email from a friend & thought I'd share. The girlfriend was most amused by ejaculatorium.

MV

There's this new book out, 'The Meaning of Tingo', here are some extracts
culled from the paper, for - guess what - absolutely no reason or meaning
whatsoever:

karoshi - [Japanese] death by overwork
kibitzer - [Yiddish] - one how comes interfering with useless advice
koshatnik - [Russian] - one who sells stolen cats
kualanapuhi - [Hawaiian] - an official who keeps the flies away from a
sleeping king by waving a brush made of feathers
madogiwazoku - [Japanese] Window gazers, i.e. office workers who sit at
desks with nothing to do
nakhur - [Persian] - a camel that won't give milk until its nostrils are
tickled
neko-neko - [Indonesian] - a person who has a creative idea that only makes
things worse
seigneur-terrasse - [French]  - person who spends much time but little money
in a cafe

Use them three times in a conversation, and you've mastered them! And
'Tingo'? Well, that's a word from Easter Island, to describe the action of
borrowing objects one by one from a friends house, until there is nothing
left. Where's 'Goodfellas'?... Alright, so foriegn words aren't your thing,
here's some from "Book of Intriguing Words':

abulia - abnormal ability to act or make decisions
bathqol - a divine revelation given audibly
ecdysiast - a stripper
ejaculatorium - room in a sperm bank where "donations" are made
misomania - hatred of everything
pandiculation - the act of stretching and yawning
tiffing - eating or drinking outside of meal time
ultracrepidarianism - the habit of giving opinions and advice in matters
beyond one's knowledge

Go forth and snub the ultracrepidarianistic kibitzers!

Books & Comics / Judge Dredd Crime Files 1 & 2
17 August, 2005, 04:26:58 AM
G'day

I was on here the other day trying to get rid of a load of the Quality Comics reprints.

I've also discovered I've a fair few of the Dredd Crime Files that reprinted the stories from the annuals nicely behind Brian Bolland covers.

Issue 1 contains Last of the Bad Guys, JD & The 7 Dwarves, a story with Ian Gibson art that doesn't seem to have a title but I think is called Hot Pursuit & a Rogue tale Nort by Nortwest.

Issue 2 has Anatomy of a Crime, Vampire Effect, Compulsory Purchase, Mega City Rumble, The Big Itch & a Robo-Hunter tale Hoagy's First Case.

I've got ten copies of issues 1 & 2 if anybody wants them, just cover the cost of postage & I'll be happy as I need the space but don't want to just bin them.
(So will the girlfriend after I've made her raid my Mother's garage for all my boxes of comics that have been in storage since 1993!)

Cheers.

Books & Comics / Quality Comics - Zenith
14 August, 2005, 09:33:26 PM
G'day.

I have rather a fair few of the Quality Comics/Fleetway Quality reprints. Multiple issues, across the titles (Time Twisters, 2000AD Showcase, Dredd, Rogue, Stront, etc.) for about six months.

If any boarders want any, they can have them, just pay postage.

I know Zenith is always a hot topic on here & the first lot I've dug out is 2000AD Showcase 38, 39, 44, 45. All featuring Zenith, end of Phase 1, the Maximan interlude, & end of Phase 2. I have fourteen of 38, nine of 39 & three each of 44 & 45 so it's first come first served.

If you have any want lists for the later of the Quality Comics let me know.

Off Topic / Mobile phone virus
01 August, 2005, 05:33:50 PM
Girlfriend who works in th communications business has just got this email from on high. Thought I'd share.

Dear All

All mobile users pay attention if you receive a phone call and your mobile phone displays (XALAN) on the screen don't answer the call, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY, if you answer the call, your phone will be infected by a virus. This virus will erase all IMEI and IMSI information from both your phone and your SIM card, which will make your phone unable to connect with the telephone network. You will have to buy a new phone. This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia.

There are over 3 Million mobile phones being infected by this virus in all around the world now. You can also check this news in the CNN web site. PLEASE FORWARD THIS PIECE OF INFORMATION TO ALL YOUR COLLEAGUES, FRIENDS AND RELATIVES WHO OWN A MOBILE PHONE

Film & TV / The Descent
20 July, 2005, 02:18:32 PM
Hi

Having just watched The Descent I thought it was very good in a no brain horror kind of way. However, really didn't like the end. Don't want to spoil it by saying what happens but I felt it was a bit of a let down as what had gone before was really well done.

Anybody else any opinions?
