Small MAME problem.
« on: 08 March, 2005, 05:18:00 PM »
I was going to put this on monty's MAME thread but I cant find it.

I cant seem to figure out how to play the roms. Does anyone know if there is a set of keys used for all the games or is there is a way of defining the keys yourself?

So as not to waste another thread please let me know if there are any potential pitfalls for a black skull with no brain like myself.

Thanks.

Press tab in-game.  There's a menu.  One of the options allows you to change the keys (or just look at what they are).

Press 5 to insert coin, 1 to start a 1 player game, 2 to start 2 player game etc.

Cursor keys to move, ctrl = button 1, alt = button 2, space = button 3, shift = button 4

But all redefinable from the TAB menu.

Thanks for your help guys. I couldn't find any info anywhere else (cant reach the site from my prisons network) but hopefully I'll be playing PsYcho Soldiers tonight.

And trying to forget about the exam I'm having today. :(

Well, I'm done.

Thanks Max, and Malchi. Hopefully your good wishes will somehow cloud my teachers mind when the time comes to correct my "work".

Ooh! Suggestions are very welcome. I'm a big fan of SHMUPS although SHUMPS sound good too.

:p

Seriously though, I welcome any suggestions. The more, the better.

You have all those arcade machines you need to legitimately back-up with MAME? Wow! Where'd you keep them all?

Actually, Motherboards don't take up that much space :P (but I don't own all on those list, no - do you know how rare some of them are) you only need 2 cabinets, an vertical monitor one and a horizontal monitor one.

Oh, and a b/w vector cab and a colour cab for running vector games...

And besides, you can't buy these ROMs from most of the companies legitimately (some you can - check out StarROMs) - some (i.e. Taito) don't even own copies of them themselves (prompting the conversation of Us:'So can you let us have copies of the ROMs for these games so we can produce the games we've licensed off you' & Them:'No, you'll have to download them off some pirate websites.'

Emulation, it's a legal/moral can of worms that shouldn't be opened...
