Well I'm a little surprised that no one has done this yet but I think with this epic vista created in Paint I've got this one sown up.

Space from... well take your pick really.

Books & Comics / Startin' um young

Well by way of an excuse for putting the picture up that will follow shortly and in response to the magnificent work being done by Ming utilising Lego to spread the word to the young I give you this.

Now its not 2000ad related BUT its my daughter dressed as Thorn from Bone for World Book day last week. So what efforts have you gone to go get your little uns, or other associated young people into comics. What with Bone and My Little Pony we have this one in the bag!

Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...

Finally got around to watching Tank Girl this week. What a chaotic mess of a film that is... though of course that might be the point? Missed me if it was.

Anyway was wondering what the general consensus was? I know it was panned when it came out (and apparently brought the demise if Deadline?) but has developed a bit of a cult following I've since read?

Prog / Re: Prog 1872 - Worm Food
08 March, 2014, 06:20:03 PM
For me this Prog is summed up by the cover. I have in the past found Dylan Teague's a little flat. I found last week's Prog a little flat. Nowt wrong with Dylan Teague's covers, nowt wrong with last weeks Prog. Just Mr Teague's covers sometimes don't quite reach the highs we get so often from 2000ad, much like last week's Prog.

This week both blow me away. Everything was top notch, from the first page of Dredd.

I've called this current Dredd, typical and old skool, but not original. Well from the moment the citizen said 'I stopped walking for this?' while looking at the acrobats, a single statement that so wonderfully summed up Mega City One, whether this was a bit run of the mill ideas wise, or not, I loved every moment of the execution and the story finished on a real high. Mike Carroll I'm sorry for doubting you! Oh and Tharg can we have more Nick Dyer in the Prog please? Can we give him a regular series?

Likewise ABC Warriors stepped up a notch. Okay so it didn't offer a surprise in the motivation coming Harry's way but it was wonderfully but it was very, very well done and as is so often the case with Pat Mills stories the villains really made their mark.

The 3riller had a really superb middle section making me forget my doubts from last time. Grey Area was a quite fantastic one-shot just reminding us in quite exquisite fashion that for all these nice steady stories we're also building up to something... oh and I don't often get on with Mark Harrison's art, here more grounded than normal it was superb.

Finally Eddie Robson, not sure where he's come from, but I enjoyed his last Future Shock and I loved this one. Great little story, he has the knack, which so rarely happens with Future Shocks these day of catching me off guard and giving the story a twist I didn't see coming. Hopefully he continues in this rich vein and we could have a name to watch out for on our hands.

Oh and Thrill of the Future is Brass Sun which is just the icing on the cake. A quite lovely five laid cake of yum - thank you very much Tharg.

How's that comparable to US comics over there?

IDW's Rogue Trooper will set you back three pounds and thirty pence: http://www.forbidden-planet.co.uk/

Well that is Forbidden Planet for you. At my LCS a $2.99 book is either £2.20 and a $3.99 book $2.80. Which ever way you look at it Tharg is as ever generous to us all. Extra story pages, over-sized and, well, ya know just plain better than most everything else so. Yeah he's good to us.

Edited cos I forgot to say: Even when he does put prices up he does so in small increments - this time resisting the temptation to even go to say £2.50. In the US market for whatever reason it was decided that after $2.99 the next 'price point' (oh how I hate that phrase) was $3.99 - what like $3.25, or $3.50 whatever could never have existed... well okay there is the odd $3.50 book but the point carries I hope.

Don't just tell us about it - show us!

Though I have to be honest I don't have a full set as I lack the first 40 issues (have most of the strips reprinted of course - most that is - damn you Dan Dare Foundation or whatever you are called!) - given my recent delving into the world of original art I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever have the money for a full set!

Oh that Shaky book looks just wonderful. Do we know anymore more about the format? One shot, mini? Looking forward to finding out.

The strip appeared in  issues 164-166 back in 1990 and reprinted in 'The Mark of Mandragora' GN.

filippo

Does anyone know if it appears in any of the more modern Panini collections, Nemesis of the Daleks I'[m thinking? http://merchandise.thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/doctor-who-nemesis-of-the-daleks-graphic-novel/? I don't recall it from 'A Cold Day in Hell' and I'm sure I would!

Try to include some sequential pages of conversation or other mundane activity -- these are murderously hard to draw and make interesting, and editors know this.

If you can lay your hands on 'How to draw comics the Marvel way' there's a quite superb example of this from the mighty John Buscema.

Francavilla is such a atmospheric artist. Would love to see him do something for Tharg, even a cover).

And how his covers are blooming wonderful. Given how in demand he seems doesn't seem likely but would be just great!

Not got round to buying Johnny Red or Charleys War.

I know you have a long list of stuff to get and I'll probably say the same about the interest you've shown in Cinebook publications (if you want recommendations there just ask but if you can get to an event they are at its well worth waiting as they have great offers at events), but you should defo get around to both of those they are both brilliant. Charley's in particular.
