Staying in the Dreddverse this month - from Tharg's Choice for May
Uwe de Witt:
QuoteI'd love to see a Chopper-comp
SO CHOPPERCOMP WE SHALL!
Marlon Shakespeare (a creation of John Wagner & Ron Smith ) is one of the Dreddverses most iconic cit characters. Will you explore his early years as a restless wall scrawling teen? His daring escape from Justice and race towards Supersurf 10? The bloody and tragic events of Supersurf 11? His return to the big meg and face-off with Dredd? Or now, in his old age in Oz?
There will be a GN straight from the nerve centre for the winner, and one for Tharg's Choice - and there will also be a bonafide 2000 AD droid choosing their favourite entries! All entries will be viewable here, on our dedicated FB page and on the official 2000 AD Tumblr!!
Rules for the art comp are these:
- You can enter as many times as you like but bear in mind it will split your vote so it may not be worth it.
- All entries have to be constructed specifically for this competition - so nothing you've done for anything else.
- You can enter either here or by directly putting it on our FB wall here: https://www.facebook.com/2000adartcomp/
YOU HAVE UNTIL THE 28TH OF JUNE WHEN WE SHALL CHEW ON THE VOTING KANGAROO
Getting in early, i love drawing Chopper

That's fantastic. What a great start to what is the acest of ace comps :)
Nice, it has a very Steve Yeowell vibe, especially the face
Thanks guys...Steve Yeowell definitely had an influence on me, how much is in the eye of the beholder ;)

Great work gents - after the Lord Mayor's show...
It's a while since I've entered a comp but it's only fair that I take my share of last place finishes.
What we have here is a reimangining of an epic Super Surf contest, but in the medium of meat. The image is slightly let down by the fact that the Chop, on whom the whole pun rests, actually looks like a bit of bacon.
The burger is catching up fast but poor old Mr T-Bone wishes he made it to the toilet before he set off! A nod to former glories there!

Ha! :D
Supersurf & Turf, surely.
But... Where are the piss stains, Buttonman?

"Dan Dare - Journey Through Time".
Here is my entry for the June Art Competition.
It is part of my 36 page comic strip "Dan Dare - Journey Through Time".
This project aims to conclude the final 2000A.D. Dan Dare story that was never completed (finished abruptly, see Prog 126 – just before 2000AD merged with Tornado, with Dan on the run and trying to clear his name. The storyline was never to be resolved and Dan Dare never returned to the comic as promised to it's readers).
Now based in Rome, Gavin Aslett – a hugely talented photographer, television graphic designer, video producer (he's worked with bands such as Suzerain on their promotions) storyboard artist and more – has created this conclusion to the story which ends the 2000AD Dan Dare's saga, which he tells us Pat Mills has mentioned to Rebellion.
https://patmills.wordpress.com/tag/dan-dare/
"The story took over a year to complete as I referenced original artwork by Dave Gibbons to keep the continuity of the strip and try to give the story a conclusion," says Gavin.
"I think after 35 years it deserved one!"
"I would be over the moon if Rebellion used my strip to conclude the story in the Graphic Novel reprints."
I don't think you've quite grasped the rules of the art competition, there...
Cheers
Jim

Eh, exactly. This very worthwhile project is not eligible I'm afraid due to it:
A) Not being related to the theme
B) Not being "specifically for this competition" which is in the rules
C) Those first two re-emphasised again
D) All of the above
sorry i meant no offence - i didn't read the rules correctly and now i understand it was just for chopper.
anyway best of luck with the competition.
gavin
No worries Gavin and good luck with the project - perhaps start a new thread for it in Creative Common here it'd be interesting to see more!
http://forums.2000adonline.com/index.php?board=26.0
You could also submit something Chopper themed for this month's competition if you fancy it, Gavin :)

it's just an art competition.
I think you may have just read those comments in reverse order or something, g2525.

Hi Gavin,
With reference to my comments, Buttonman often enters the art competitions with pictures, sorry, masterpeices, done in Microsoft paint. One of his signature flourishes is piss stains on his characters, which I thought was missing on his current peice, leading me to believe it was a fake...
Hope that clears it up buddy!
ok. thank you for your kind reply.
best wishes,
Gavin
Okay, here's my entry for the 2000AD Chopper Competition, good luck!

It's going to be one of those months isn't it :-\
That's a fine, up-standing peenagerie Mr Wells.
Can a Krill Tro Thargo be revoked?
But can you guess them all Joe?
Which one is McGruder's?

Loving Neil's 2000ad cover - epic!
Also very much amused by Pete's submission... only one I couldn't guess is 'O'...
My entry this month is a bit half-hearted, sorry guys...
Best of luck to you all!

'O' is a promiscuous Russian Rogue, hence the STD's all over it and moustache-shaped 'foliage.' Maybe I should have popped some red spots on it...
I'm kicking myself 'cos I was supposed to do a Warp spasming one and a translucent one and I forgot.
Ah, that clears that one up then... lol
You could always resubmit with some new editions... although I'm dreading how the warp spasm would look..!
Good lord. A wizard's staff has a knob on the end and a Judge's Day Stick has a Helmet, I guess...
I like that you're treating it as if I've accepted the cockstrosity as an entry - it's about as on-topic as the Dan Dare one!
In many ways Pete it's TOO GOOD for the competition. It should be a 3D printed exhibition at the British Cartoon Museum. Do one for Marvel & DC and you could be a global art icon.
The brief doesn't seem to specify which Chopper we are to draw :
QuoteI'd love to see a Chopper-comp
I'm with Pete Wells Block!
That ain't the brief, that's just the suggestion of the theme - !
Actually, they ALL fit the briefs, except Ramone Dexter's, which is frigging massive.
Right, NOW it fits the brief...
aren't a couple of those breaking the "mull of Kintyre " rule regarding phalluses? ( theres supposed to be a winky emote in there but my new laptop isn't letting me do one)
Loving those expanded Choppers, especially Kano and Gene which had me giggling out loud. Although I thought the Mighty Organ would be bigger (if I had a euro for every time..etc), and where's Zombo?
I'll make sure and not let my 6 year old daughter have look at the other entries this month then...okay.
Yeah I think there's no harm in having the art competition as all ages. I mean Pete Wells could well have done his piece without the need to actually showing cocks and by doing so all he's done is restrict the art comp from an...
... why am I getting de ja vu here...
Didn't want to cause any offence, in hindsight, a page full of jizzing songs might do that. Feel free to take it down Owen/mod folks.
Well I am outraged. I don't mind seeing extreme violence or sexy ladies but if I see a penis I get furious!
While I completely accept the all-ages point here, nothing brightens my day like some lovingly rendered toilet-door cocks, and these ones were exceptional. Bravo Mr Wells, now turn yourself in for registration.

Joint entry from a grand idea by Neil Bhuna Roche. Based on a classic image from Silver Surfer Parable by Moebius. The Midnight Surfer V's The Silver Surfer. I'm clearly no match for Moebius but it's a great idea and it had to be done. Neil hasn't the time at the moment so I said I'd have a crack at it.

Whow hold on. Please no one took my comment seriously did they... I mean it was one of mine. I was simply parodying the oft had discussion about whether the Prog should be all ages or not.
I sniffed the fact that the same discussion might happen about the art comp and decided the cheap joke was the way to go... PLEASE no one took it seriously!

I think we might find the answer is YES.

Wait till the end. I in my naivety long ago put up too pics with sarccy comments and quite rightly got a slap from the mods for it so wait till the end.
Yeah, it's nice to see the finished product in this thread, but it would be cool if you set up a blog and gave us links so those of us interested can see the creation stages shaolin.

Reticulate the polarity of the motherboard's transmission matrix by rotating the keyfix to about 12.5 - 15.7 (depending on your software version). Once you get the "Image Thrust" screen, activate the transmit mode by pressing any of the three mole keys on the left of the screen (they'll be highlighted either green or jade). A flashbox will then appear with the message "Unmultiply Image Crest?" Click "No" and move to the next screen, which should show a comprehensive data index. Highlight the exif tag of the image you want to insert and move it to the "Multifarious Variety Concomitant Radio Pulse" box. You will then be asked to input the multimodal access code of the service you want to transfer the image to. (In the case of 2000ADonline, that code changes randomly but the most up to date iteration can be found here (http://www.this-page-intentionally-left-blank.org/) from 17:35hrs to 18:07 hrs every Wednesday.) Click "OK" and then choose the image format, which can be .jgp2, .gpn, .trs, .clt or .thrst. The image will then transfer to the "Insert Platform," which will then ask you some questions and require your credit card number. Once that's done, your image will appear in all its glory - simples!

Damn I wish I was going to Glastonbury, I'm missing it this year in a way I haven't before. I was chatting to the little un about it this morning as seeing at least two cars being packed for the festival... in my admittly very middle class part of the world, such is the way of Glastonbury these days. I told him all about the exciting magic he'd see down there and promised to show him some stuff when we're back home tonight. I reckon I can get him on side and pester power on Mum will double!
Have a good 'un

A nice selection of Choppers on display. Here's mine.
Thanks Andy :) I'm looking forward to becoming more active in this community
Allistemac that's awesome :) great pose and composition and I love the texture on his costume
Hi, I can't attach my entry for the Chopper competition. I've just joined, do I need some extra permission?
Hi Brian! You'll need to upload it to an image hosting site, such as Photobucket, then copy and paste the link into the image brackets of your post in here. Of you have trouble, you can always email it to me at dikiminster@gmail.com and I'll post it up. 😉
Thanks Darren! Would a link to my Tumblr do the job? If not I'll email it direct to you, thanks!
Hi Brian, I've used Tumblr to post images on this forum :) here's how...
Find your image on your Tumblr blog, right click it
Select "Copy image address". This will copy the images URL to your clipboard
On the forum, click the image button (the one that looks like the mona lisa)
Paste the image URL between the "img" text in square brackets
Hope that helps!
Here's my entry for the June Art comp. Thanks to Darren Stephens, Butch and Mightybren for the tech support with posting it!

Amazing. A bit like Andy Clarke, only better.
I was thinking Kitson, especially on the Dredd.
Thanks for the kind words! Some brilliant images on here. That last Uwe De Witt one is fantastic.
I feel a bit embarrassed posting this given the quality this month!
I started this at the beginning of the month but never got round to finishing it off. It didn't help that every day someone seemed to be uploading something AMAZING to the comp. Good luck everyone!
