Another vote for Hellboy 2 being brilliant! lots of fun, visually stunning, nice tongue-in-cheek humour and great acting. Just like one of the comics come to life!

Gweetings all!

I've sent two future shock submissions in the past 3 or 4 months, but throughout 2013 I intend to send as many as I can. I've no idea when or if tharg will reply but, for me, the important thing is to just keep them flowing. hopefully, they'll at least see how keen I am! :)

Last game played: Skyrim. A mind-blowing game which seems to be almost limitless. Also getting through Red Dead Redemption, which is so expansive it's almost scary  :o

On the subject of Skyrim, what race did other players (if there are any here) choose for their character? I picked Dark Elf, with a fetching red mohawk and a funky little beard  :P

On the subject of Karl not getting the recognition he deserved, the same is true of all aspects of 'genre' or 'high-concept' entertainment. Even with its modest (in movie-terms) budget, how many people worked on Dredd? Hundreds? Production designers, stunt guys & gals, costume designers, weapons designers/advisors, prop designers, technicians, pyrotechnic experts ... the list goes on and on. All of these working their butts off to create the illusion of another world, and yet, films which purport to be about 'real life', with little imagination or flair on display, manage to clean up in awards events.

Now, I'm not taking away from the work of films which require less people to work on them at all, but does anyone else find it annoying that so many critics and "film fans" will snigger at a film because it's bigger, even though so much more work and imagination has gone into it?

Something I've been thinking about for a while now, just thought I'd put it out there.

And to get back on-topic, Karl Urban's performance is one of my favourites from 2012.

Avengers has a death toll in the hundreds and a few onscreen stabbings, shootings and explodings, so I wouldn't call it "fluffy" or anything.

Ha ha, very true!  :D

Oh my grud! This 2000AD thing is taking over my life! Last night I visited my brother, and his youngest asked me to help him practice his ABCs. Wasn't until he came home from school with a note asking why he'd written Hammerstein', 'Deadlock' etc in his alphabet practice book that I realised my mistake!

I'm still yet to complete this, and think it's really impressive ... but since I downloaded Dredd vs zombies its taken a back seat!

It's annoying that the DVD edition only has one tiny extra on it. Wonder if there'll be a special edition at some point.

Willthemightyw, love your profile pic  :)

I agree Avengers rules, just got the blu-ray, but gritty can work too. I love Nolan's Batman flicks for example. But it is true, there are various tones to go for, and it is nice to see a movie embracing it's comic roots so much, stylistically.

Agree with that. Just find it disconcerting when we hear of films looking to be made or rebooted with a "dark, gritty, edgy angle".

Does that Avengers blu-ray feature extra footage?

No, they're an inevitable aspect of lazy storytelling.

Fair enough! Think Prometheus and TDKR could be on a par for plot holes.

Watched some footage of this a few weeks back on YouTube, thought the cutscenes looked really bizarre!

I still want a solid third-person Dredd free-roamer. With vehicles!

Welcome aboard, Rusty!

That's a good point you make. Maybe it's more so the moderators can assess how genuine our posts are, to make sure we're not just spammers lurking or something.

I enjoyed Prometheus at the cinema, but it definitely seemed a bit pointless to me. It added nothing to the Alien franchise, nor did it really work as a standalone film. Loads of plot holes, too - these don't particularly bother me, as they're an inevitable aspect of storytelling, but it was hard to ignore them really.

Dredd. Again. Took a few hours off work this afternoon (read skived) and saw it again. I think it's even better the second time round.

Is it really better? I was very tempted to buy a ticket for the next showing as soon as it finished - something I'd not considered since Avengers Assemble - but relented. I don't know if I will actually go to watch it again tomorrow as I suggested earlier, but I would quite like to watch it again before it's removed from the cinemas for good.

Hope it gets a DVD release fairly quickly!

I keep chuckling whenever I remember Dredd's "you're the psychic" line  :D

Cannot compliment Urban's performance enough. The voice was much softer than I'd expected, and I was pleasantly surprised.
