Hey Squaxx,

Over at comiXology they are having an end of year sale for small press titles and this year, for the first time, FQP are taking part.

The direct link to the comiXology publisher page for FQP is here.

Almost all of the books are now available for as little as 0.39p (GBP) which is an absolute steal (and possibly a little insulting to the creators involved) and if it helps anyone out there who is undecided about trying an FQP book - hopefully this will make it easier.

All the FQP titles available are part of the sale, and all apart from the very latest issue.

Oh nice one, just bought all of the FutureQuakes and Something Wickeds, some good reading added to the backlog. Ho-ho-ho!

Books & Comics / Re: Physical vs Digital OR both
26 May, 2020, 02:16:00 PM
A good few years ago on here I replied to the same debate that I was very much on physical comics fence but in the last couple of years I've been through a marriage breakdown and had to move in and out of houses like it's going out of fashion. Since then I've fully moved over all subs to digital including the prog and meg; I just cant bring myself to move boxes of stuff about any longer. Most things I'll be keeping is the special stuff like signed Watchmen etc. rest of the stuff has been going by ebay and re-acquiring digitally.

In retrospect this choice massivley depends on your personal circumstances, right now the thought of moving again and having just to take my tablet to move most of my comics collection takes so much weight off my mind.

If I'm honest though it was already getting to the point where I was reading so much stuff that I had a small library. Having a full run of comics at the click of a button whilst crashed on the couch is a slobs joy.

The Meg has been on a roll for months now. Regularly enjoy it over the prog and no exception this month. Dredd was laugh out funny with great art. Again laughed through Black Museum. Sad to see the wonderful Lawless go. And both Havn (which was a slow burn for me) and Anderson to heat up.  I've loved reading through Necrophim back to back in the floppy; some stories really do click more when read in a big chunk, hope they finish it off next floppy. IMO there hasn't been a bad story in Meg for ages. Brill.

I've given up on Mr Robot, about four episodes in and its well, meh, to use last century speak.
I get the feeling it will drag on and on as 24 or Homeland did, and CBA with that.

Any watched the 12 Monkeys series?

The wife and I got about the same amount in to Mr Robot and neither of us was interested in what was happening, too much choice out there these days to stick with something you're not feeling (and after Lost regret if I like to stop when I CBA, something I wish I did with Lost!)

This week I've been hammering Death Note anime (a few episodes from finishing - thoroughly recommended!) and Jessica Jones; been watching this with the wife, I've seen both Daredevil and Luke Cage and prefer both over Marvel's movie offerings (outside of Guardians) so thought I may as well tick Jones off the list, its good but not great. Excellent cast but the story hasn't got me gripped and I think we have four episodes left. Probably move onto Iron Fist after this; have heard bad things so not looking forward to it.

I am a massive fan of League of Gentlemen and their follow up Psychoville. Both are my kind of dark humour.

I thoroughly enjoyed 1st series of Inside Number 9 but thought the second series was all a bit average,  however series 3 has been back to form. I think it's been possibly the best season. "Empty Orchestra" "The Bill" and "The Devil of Christmas" are easily in my top five episodes of the show; the others being "Sardines" and "A Quiet Night In" from the first series.

According to Shearsmith's tweets they're half way through filming Series 4 - so glad that the BBC hasn't axed it like they usually do with my favorite beeb shows.

John Wick: Chapter Two. The pacing was slightly affected for me because a lot of cinemas here still have an intermission for no discernible reason. Just as the long setup sequence is coming to an end and you're eagerly anticipating it all to kick int high gear... Boom! Lights come up and you have ten minutes to get an ice cream.
What cinemas still have intermissions? Presumably its a small indie cinema? Mind blown that there's still places that have these. I can imagine that they are handy for stuff like Lord of the Rings and King Kong for sure.
Quite the opposite. In Switzerland it's the norm for films to have an intermission in the big chains. It's really only in small arthouse or dingy basement cinemas that they expect you to sit and watch the whole film from start to finish.

I honestly had no idea, spent the last half hour reading through forums on Swiss intermissions. You learn something new every day. Do some places really stop the movie mid-sentance?!

I'll never forget needing to pee during the third Matrix movie, I was in crossing my legs, doing a dance through the final fight and as soon as the credits started I ran so fast down the isle (from the back row of all places to seat!) literally knocking people out of the way like a mad man. Never went for a large drink through a film again.

What's the opposite of addiction?

Watched the first two episodes of Fargo and I don't think I can be arsed with any more. Billy-Bob Thornton is great. I could watch a whole series of him driving around smalltown America being an absolute dick to people. Unfortunately, Martin Freeman is no William H Macy and both his character and the policewoman are too clearly pale copies of the ones from the original film.

I only watched the first episode and thought much the same, Billy-Bob really is great but I wasn't a fan of the rest of the supporting cast so didnt bother with the next episode.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens - which kind of sucks.  New features like the multi-build system where you don't know which of multiple builds to make first means that what used to be a fun dynamic is now an arbitrary and repetitive trial-and-error experience, while the blaster shoot-outs suffer from underdeveloped combat mechanics.  It also continues the patience-stretching trend in the Lego games of levels taking an increasingly longer time to play through, to the point I actually fell asleep during the last level I played.  Add cut scenes filled with slapstick comedy that used to be adorable but is now near-insufferable and which cannot be skipped and you have a genuine chore to play.  Maybe kids and/or people new to the series will feel different, but Lego Clone Wars was probably the last time I really enjoyed one of these.

I have a 7 year old who literally has been playing all of these lego games for his lifetime and we got him this for xmas and he lost interest in it really quick. I think he's done only a few levels and its become n expensive coaster, where he has completely drained all of the gameplay out of the likes of Lego Marvel Super-Heroes including all of the secrets, gold bricks etc.

I've never liked the Lego games though, every time I have had to help him on a level on one of the games over the years (I recall the solution for some of the Pirates levels to what to do next was a bit obtuse) I came away irritated with my experience if anything. I'm not the target audience though!

I agree. I was hoping they wouldn't just send do with series 2.

Getting Inside No. 9 instead isn't a bad thing but It would be nice if they'd do another Psychoville later, although I doubt they will.

By the end of the show it ended up being one of those great and unique series that no one tuned in to watch; the ratings really dropped off by the end and I am sure there's an video interview somewhere with either Shearsmith or Pemberton talking about it. RIP Psychoville. I thought it was as good as League personally.

I'm not familiar with the iOS app (I do use the android version though!) but is there a subscription option and has that seen an increase if so?  :-\

Well, chewed through my monthly haul at an obscene pace.  Considering the cost I reckon a culling is in order.  Amazing Spider Man really has lost it.  Much as I enjoyed Superior, this has nothing.

I'm a long time Spidey fan so wouldn't and couldn't do anything as drastic as stop pulling it but Dan Slott needs a break, Amazing needs a new fresh pair of eyes for at least a while. It's not bad but it's deffo Spider-Man on auto pilot.

Vampirella is getting re-launched this week; http://dynamite.com/htmlfiles/viewProduct.html?PRO=C72513025568600011

Wouldn't normally be my bag, but I did notice that it's by erstwhile Megazine writer Paul Cornell and new Art Droid Wunderkind Jimmy Broxton.
And it's €0.25.

Cheers for this; just went to look this up on comiXology to find it's completley free there.

Those are stunning! Really look like a professional bought in Waterstones release.

Watchmen signed by Gibbons is easy to come by (in fact Forbidden Planet still have them for £10.99, which is where I bought mine several years ago) but considering Moore will likely throw a copy of Watchmen in your face and have you escorted out of the building I would say this is surely near to a holy grail as per signed things go? At the very least double the £100 that normal signed Alan Moore books go for I would have thought.
