It's the last one before Christmas and with stories fresh from Thought Bubble in our heads, what better way to end the year than a gathering for tales, drinking, food and fun.

SAT 12th Nov 2016 in that there London

If you've never been to one then why not start now and have an enjoyable time. We all meet up at Forbidden Planet on Shaftesbury Avenue between 12:00 - 13:00 and then wander down Neal Street (opposite the shop) and into The Crown and Anchor, which is on the left and is a corner building.

I know many people can't get to conventions and therefore never see members of the 2000 AD community, be it from here or facebook. This is a social event when you can meet a few of us, putting names to faces and just relax, have a pint, chat about anything and feel welcomed by everyone.

I hope we see a few new faces from the many new arrivals to the forum!

You know the drills by now ;)

16th July from 13:00 onwards, GOSH Comics and The Crown and Anchor, London

Seeing as there is a fantastic signing on this day at GOSH Comics (McMahon and Bolland and the Cursed Earth collection) it would be rude not to gather and drink the day and night away.

The signing is at GOSH Comics between 13:00-14:00 and we will be in our usual haunt afterwards (I'm sure some may be there before) If you just want to come along to the pub and miss out the madness of the signing then here's a link to the CROWN AND ANCHOR

The gathering is family friendly and if you have any questions then post away. We also have a Facebook page, which tells you everything and you'll see a few pictures on there that show you what we get up to. If there are any new members on the forum who live near London, then this is a way to meet others from here, drink, chat and have a good time.

Off Topic / RIP W. R. Logan
21 May, 2016, 04:46:11 PM
It's with great sadness that I have to inform the forum that our very own W. R. Logan aka Stewart Perkins has passed away this morning, while stationed in Norway.

I've just finished talking to his girlfriend Deborah and that's the only information that she knows at the moment in time. As she becomes aware of more information, then she will pass it on and I'll post it up here.

For those who don't know, Stewart helped John Wagner out whenever he needed any facts, basically he was his encyclopedia of Dredd. For his help John kept torturing Judge Logan in the Dredd strip and I'm lucky to have a page of Dredd with Logan in it, minus his arm.

Stewart did a lot of work for the 2000 AD groups in the early days of the internet and was well known for his Class of '79 chat group on Yahoo.

A frequent visitor to conventions and all the Dreddcons. I can still see him sat outside a cafe with Colin MacNeil, while waiting for the Pub to open for Dreddcon 6.5.

The last time I saw him was when himself and Deborah came to one of the Southern Contingent Gatherings last year and we all had a blast.

To say I am shocked is an understatement and I shall raise a glass to my good friend tonight.

Farewell Stewart, you will be missed xxx

The next Southern Contingent Gathering will be at the FCBD event at Orbital Comics. This is on the 7th of May at 14:00 and as is our normal tradition, we shall meet up a little earlier than the signing for chat and laughs, from 13:00.

The local public house for the gathering is the Crown and Anchor in Neal Street, so if you miss us at the event, you'll find us in there!

Don't be shy, come and say hello, as we're a friendly bunch and make all feel welcome and anyway, you can't stay in the signing queue all day ;)

As for the signing, well this is from Orbital itself.

QuoteEverybody loves free comics, right? Well, this year Orbital is proud to not only be participating in the annual Free Comic Book Day, but also to be hosting a massive 2000AD mega-signing session with a number of the creators featured in their Free Comic Book Day issue.

You heard us! Not only can you get a free copy of 2000AD's FCBD Special (and other awesome comics) ... you can also get it signed by the creators involved, including Hannah Berry, Henry Flint, Alec Worley, Matt 'Tharg' Smith, and special guest Dani (who's flying in from Greece for the day) – with more to be announced over the coming weeks.

But wait – that's not all ... On top of free comics and a 2000AD mega-signing, we'll also have original art from the issue on display in the Orbital Gallery. We have Dani's complete story (as part of a wider exhibition) plus Rufus Dayglo & Jim McCarthy's art from Bad Company!

Doors open at 10:30am for Free Comic Book Day, then the signing will commence at 2pm. This is our biggest and most ambitious FCBD signing EVER, so we hope you'll join us in celebrating the enduring thrill-power of 2000AD as they blaze ahead in 2016. Zarjaz!

General / Gaze onto the shirt of Dredd!
09 February, 2016, 04:50:58 AM
What better way to show your love for Dredd than wearing it on your sleeve, chest and back!

I've been after doing something like this for a little while now, after seeing other items covered in Marvel and DC stuff. Luckily for me, someone in the town does this sort of stuff, so I sent across three images to place onto a shirt, which would become my official Convention Shirt!

These images consisted of 2 Bolland pages and 1 McMahon page. There was only one stipulation and that was for the most famous image to be placed across the collar, as best it could be.

I picked it up at Demoncon XI on the weekend and I am well impressed with it. I didn't expect the front to match up on either side with the pages in alignment but it does beautifully.

Here's two pics showing it and you can see who is on either side of the collar!

I'm thinking of having two more made in the semi-near future. Another black and white with up to 10 pages from multiple artists and the other will be colour and again, up to 10 pages. All I have to do is decide which artists and which pages!

Events / Demoncon XI
07 February, 2016, 06:28:43 AM
I'm off to my local convention today and it should be a rather enjoyable and relaxing day for me. Looking forward to a few chats with the droids and other creators, having a look round the stalls and picking up the ultimate Dredd shirt that I've had commissioned :)

There is a facebook page for the event DEMONCON XI

Michael has said on the podcast that he's going to upset a lot of people this year and in Previews it says that in the Michael Carroll & Colin MacNeil strip The Grindstone Cowboys a tragedy awaits that will have major repercussions for Mega-City One!

Is he really gonna kill someone off and if so, who?

I'm gonna side with Hershey, purely for the reason that she's been alive too long and the death of the Chief Judge can sway the power either way, as someone else takes the position. They can be more stern or move to a more relaxed way of policing the streets. Obviously not too liberal

Great news from the House of Tharg, which means my bookshelf is gonna explode!

Quote"With the Future Shock: The Story of 2000 AD documentary now out on DVD and on-demand, there's never been greater interest in the history of the most influential comic that Britain has ever produced.

And we're very pleased that this September, we will be publishing the memoirs of one of, if not the, most definitive editors in our comic's history – Steve MacManus.

How important is he to the history of comics? A modern comics industry without Steve is a world without Alan Moore and Ian Gibson's The Ballad of Halo Jones, or Peter Milligan, Brett Ewins, and Jim McCarthy's Bad Company, or Pat Mills and Kevin O'Neill's Nemesis the Warlock, and everything that has led from that since – whether it's the 'British Invasion' of the late '80s, the rise of Vertigo in the '90s, or Image's direction in the 2010s...

So this isn't just a memoir of 2000 AD, it's a retelling of a critical period in Western comics as we know them and it's a must read for anyone interested in the history of comics.

The Mighty One: My Life Inside the Nerve Centre will be out for review later this year, but I'm very proud to give you the news about this new title for 2016.
