Still PC-less, so this is going to be a very brief post.

I just received the hardback collection of Family, and it's a very pretty little book. If you've bought any of the Euro-size trades before you'll know what to expect: high production values, perfect art reproduction and a high-ish price tag.

As with the other Euro books, this is a bitesize story - only 48 pages - but unlike most of the other books in this line, it's backed up with some extra material. In addition to a couple of pages of character portraits, Rebellion have printed Rob Williams' original pitch for the series in its entirety. It's essentially a ten page synopsis, but it's interesting for budding writers and for readers who want to see where the finished story has deviated from the pitch. While not as much fun to read as, say, John Smith's pitch for Devlin Waugh, or Alan Moore's dense, chatty scripts, it's a welcome addition to this collection.

At ?9.99 Family is, I'm sorry to say, just on the wrong side of the value-for-money equation, even with the welcome extra material. In paperback and at around ?7 I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it - the story is solid & entertaining enough, and Si Fraser's B&W art is lush - but at a tenner it's just edging into the zone marked "for fans only".

Still, if the price is right for you, this is another gorgeous collection that is well worth a look.
