To the bunkers! Women and children after me!! It's early days to say it's aliens, surely? Might it not be a giant  planet ripped apart by coming to close to it's sun and the debris field is blocking our view. We have seen gas giants in close solar proximity in other parts of the galaxy. Could this be a mega Earth type world torn apart in some celestial disaster?

I did have a dream last night that aliens visited our planet after having previously visited it several million years ago...

However their conversation was basically: "You remember those monkeys that shat in your spacesuit's helmet last time we were here? Turns out they're now the dominant life-form of the planet..."

Admittedly, I haven't really read up on this. But I'm not forgetting the time SETI were convinced they'd found signals from an alien civilization and it turned out to be interference form the microwave oven in ther staff room.

I for one will welcome our facehugging, chestbursting alien overlords.

I posted about this yesterday (Reply #1201) where I linked to the original paper, Planet Hunters X. KIC 8462852 – Where's the flux?

Whatever's orbiting KIC 8462852 is strange and not thought to be a planet or dust/debris cloud due to an absence of IR emissions from the proposed planet, dust or debris cloud. Even the comets idea doesn't fit 100% but comes closest to providing a natural phenomena to explain the curious data.

I wonder if they have any useful natural resources that WE CAN HAVE?

I worry that aliens have been watching our internet and have come to the conclusion that the best we can do is lolcatz and pornography and said to themselves, 'Phhth. Nuts to this rock,' and put a huge warning sign around our solar system.

Can't wait till they put this star under some intensive observation. Z

I think if it does turn out to be alien technology, this will be the biggest news event since news began. It's hard to imagine something more newsworthy.
It's some space rocks, isn't it?
