General / Great news for Spurrier fans...
18 August, 2006, 06:38:49 PM
Hadn't noticed this mentioned here yet(apologies iof it's old news) so thought I'd start a thread...
Si Spurrier has apparently gone and got hisself a 2 novel publishing deal with big swanky publishers Hodder Headline and the first book, called "Contract" should be out next year. As a big fan of his comic writing I find this pretty exciting as he's obviously got the potential to do something pretty special. Also I look forward to reading the book and then passing it onto friends who maybe wouldn't read comics, which might also open more people up to his writing who might then check out the 2000AD stuff.
So yeah, major kudos to him, hopefully the other Spurrier fans here are as excited as me about reading it!

General / Judas Harrow in Durham Red
31 May, 2006, 08:35:44 AM
Reading "The Omega Solution" Black Flame novel and, with my memory not quite being what it used to be, spending a lot of it trying to remember what Harrow's mutation is. As far as I remember in the comics he was human but with the book referring to him as a mutant I'm guessing my memory files may be corrupted. To save me digging out the old issues, can anyone fill me in?

General / Futsie?
30 May, 2006, 11:25:30 PM
Everytime I read a Dredd story involving someone going "futsie" I can't help but wonder at how strange that is. I know it refers to the fact that the people are snapping due to the pressures of life in the future, but to the people who coined the phrase it's present day, so why would they refer to the present as the future? Surely they're going "present-sie"?!?

Books & Comics / Predator Vs Dredd
29 May, 2006, 07:53:30 PM
Didn't know this existed so picked up a copy when I saw it. Quite enjoyed it, although the art wasn't really to my taste and the story was a bit mental. Was wondering if there's been any other crossover Dredd stories, as the only ones I was aware of was Batman and Aliens. Anyone know of any other cross-over grudge matches involving the big chinned one?

General / Dredd Case Files
20 May, 2006, 08:54:10 AM
Have been wondering about the dredd case files, once it gets to the point where the meg was around, will the graphic novels jump between the prog and the meg? and would this work? I personally want the case files to be as complete a dredd collection as possible so would like it if it covered both publications, and also will the latter day full colour strips mean an increase in price or just less pages per collection?Does anyone know what the plans are for this?

Books & Comics / sci fi commando
20 May, 2006, 07:45:33 AM
Does anyone remember a comic in the eighties which was the same format and size of commando but it was all sci fi stories? I remember when I was a kid I would always get it or commando but cant remember what it was. It was awesome so it was.

Film & TV / Brick
19 May, 2006, 05:49:03 AM
Saw this the other day and it was magnifico. Really absorbing  and beautifully made with a cracking story to boot. The sharp dialogue and hardboiled detective vibe reminded me a lot of Simpin' Detective so thought it might appeal to Spurrier fans. I really want to say it was noir-ish but have only a vague understanding of what that phrase actually means so won't embarrass myself. Instead will say it's like Simpin' Detective with a splash of Donnie Darko and a light sprinkling of Blue Velvet, fantastic.

General / Flixster movie geekery
15 May, 2006, 02:19:39 AM
Got an invite for this thing yesterday and it's pretty cool. Like a myspace sort of thing but the whole idea is to rate movies, and it'll find people who have similar tastes so you can then check their reviews for stuff. Which if you're a bored insomniac and really into movies can kill a bit of time. Anyone already on this?

Games / 50Hz vs 60Hz?
02 May, 2006, 08:43:19 PM
This is probably a dumb question but I'm not hugely technically minded! Just discovered my tv supports 60Hz NTSC, so was wondering with games like Rogue Trooper that give you the option to use this, which is actually better?

Games / Guitar Hero
28 April, 2006, 06:24:18 AM
Bought this today on PS2 and it's a great laugh, although having a bit of trouble unlearning proper guitar and learning fake guitar, and slightly worried that at tomorrow night's gig I won't be able to play because the frets won't have brightly coloured buttons on them. Anyone else tried this maddeningly addictive game out?

Film & TV / Silent Hill movie
23 April, 2006, 11:33:11 PM
Just saw it this morning and was wondering what enyone else made of it. I thought it nailed the atmosphere of the game and as a result was pretty scary. Worked really well as a movie up to a point(about halfway through) and only really started feeling like a videogame movie once the story took centre stage(most of the 2nd half) where I kept expecting to see loading screens popping up between the expositional "cut-scenes".
Overall I thought it was good but not the great movie I was hoping for. Plus I followed the story okay while my other half was completely lost, meaning it probably seems a bit of a mess if you haven't played the games.
Pyramid bonce was looking damn cool though, if underused. Anyone else seen this yet?

General / Dredd t-shirts?
15 July, 2005, 07:00:01 AM
I just remembered a while back they had an ad on the output page for a couple of new dredd shirts. I really wanted them and still haven't been able to find them anywhere, anytime I go to the futureshop it's just ancient stuff. Anyone know what happened to them or how I can get them?

Just went to see this, and while it's got it's flaws it's one of the best horror movies I've seen in a long long time. Would be interested to see what anyone else thought of it. I put a review online here

General / Virgin Film guide to comic book movies...
01 July, 2005, 09:14:53 PM
Has anyone read this? I found it in Virgin for a measly ?1.99 and it's not a bad read at all. Judge Dredd is one of the featured movies and the writer gives it a great write up. He says we should "praise the much-maligned director Danny Cannon and set-upon star Sylvester Stallone for the care they took in bringing Dredd to the screen, only to be mocked, pilloried and vilified by so-called fans acting more like a bunch of crazed muties from the cursed earth". That would be us then. Also has a bit on the 2 new films that are supposedly on their way at some point.?1.99 I tell you, that's cheaper than a copy of Empire.http://212.23.5.9/TWS/CoverImages_0/075/350/0753507676.jpg">

Seriously, go here to watch the trailer, it's awesome. Think Speilberg's been a little tight on the budget front though.

Off Topic / Pinball initials etc.
29 June, 2005, 04:11:13 AM
I know this probably has a limited scope for discussion, but when you're in the pub playing some crap bowling simulation or other, you get the high score and it asks for three initials, what's the first thing you go with? I generally go with "FUD", which tends to tickle my drink-softened funny bone.
Juvenile I know, but no less than "FART" I reckon.
