The world's longest running magazine of cult entertainment!

Or something.

I've only started reading this again in the last 18 months or so, and I'm very delighted that such a thing even still exists, and is available to actually buy and therefore support, rather than just click onto a website and be swamped with terrible digital advertising.

It's also remarkably content heavy, and almost always has plenty of interest within - although it could do with more 2000AD.

Anyone else a regular reader or have anything interesting to add?

How do you discern between someone wanting something better, and someone thinking they deserved something better?

Well, when they literally say "I deserved better" I assume that's what they meant.

Who's they? I didn't have time to read all the transcripts. Sounds like you saved everyone the bother.

I have this friend who hates all the films I love and loves all the films I hate. If he tells me he's watched a film and hated it I always make a point of watching it and, nine times out of ten, I enjoy it. He has the same kind of hit-rate with the films I hate. I suspect Tordels is reasoning along similar lines.

Yeah, but that sounds like "hey look at me! I like/ hate (delete as appropriate) this film that everyone else hates/ likes (delete as appropriate)" which is always suspicious, as it suggests that taking such a stance is actually the only way the individual can pretend to be interesting.

Risible.

I watched "Open House" and it's shit.

Not "haha! so terrible it's great" or "Why does everyone else love this, it's AWFUL?!"

I have no interest in such things. I watched it. It's shit. The End.

I don't understand why people who express a dislike for something are then labelled "entitled"

It's not the disliking, it's the sentiment of "deserving" something better, ie: that they were entitled to something better. It's not tricky.

How do you discern between someone wanting something better, and someone thinking they deserved something better?

Or is it simply a way to diminish a group of people and their "wrong" opinions?

It's lazy and meaningless labelling. What the fuck does it even mean? They're entitled to what? Like something? Or are they not entitled to have an opinion that differs to yours?

I do agree that extreme, splenetic reactions to a science-fiction film; poring for hours over plot holes and structure and crying about "betrayals" of characters is a bit silly, but then so are the equally in-depth retorts from rabid cheerleaders, who label any negative opinion as "entitled" or "man-children" or whatever.

They're both equally embarrassing examples of "mental", albeit at polar extremes.

I liked the film. It was fun. Yeah, bits of it were silly, and certain parts of it were rubbish, but I was entertained. It didn't ruin anything for me. I didn't feel entitled or otherwise.

It's a Star Wars film. It doesn't matter much really.

One of the worst films i have ever seen.

Adding it to my watch list as we speak.

Why? I've told you it's terrible. Do you like really terrible films?

How odd

Yeah, I love how they "wrong-footed" us with that cheap-as-fuck (literally) throw-away visual joke with the lightsaber.

Although no doubt it was to show us that our long-held beliefs in the righteousness of the Jedi Order/ Luke's beatification in the series so far/ whatever are being rightly vast aside for a brave new world of modern story-telling!

And that Canto Blight bit? Capitalism = child slavery and nasty weapons-dealers! AMIRIGHT!?

Fuck yeah, get Finn on some space-camels and wreck the joint, with whatever the fuck that annoying character was called.

Clunky and embarrassing.

She's called ROSE. And while it can be fun to pretend that you don't remember character names, it is also a tactic employed a lot by people who have an agenda deeper than film.criticism.

Rose. Great. I had no idea, possibly because she was a shit character.

I have no idea what the Benicio Del Toro character was called either. But please, don't tell me, or try and read anything into it, because I don't care.

He's interesting AND entertaining to watch......and I for one am rooting for him being victorious and ruling the galaxy as a twisted, evil overlord by the end of 9. Now that would be a good twist.

Yeah, because that's going to happen.

I don't think Disney have done a really dark and weird ending since The Black Hole in 1979

I still think it's just completely awful in almost every way

Have to disagree with the word 'almost' in this quote.

I really liked Adam Driver in the film........so he alone earned the "almost". I WAS enjoying Snoke for a little bit, but then they ruined that.

Emo Darth was, tragically, one of the most interesting characters in TLJ.

Admittedly being more interesting than Mary Sue Rey isn't hard, although she was much better in this film than The Force Awakens, so there's been improvement in both.

Unlike The Last Jedi, which is a machine-tooled, precision mechanism of coherent story-telling and plotting, which explained everything so well, and slotted right into the previous film's world-building.

Diabolically shit, in every possible way. Whoever was responsible for this abortion should never be allowed to write, direct or produce a film ever again, and Netflix need to have their fucking heads examined for actually showing it. It's offensively terrible and if this tsunami of sewage is what Netflix thinks is the sort of original content people want, they can fuck off.

I've got two of the giant, 1,000 page Walking Dead compendiums (numbers 2 & 3) to get through still.

They've been sitting on my bookshelf glowering at me for a year now. Must get round to read them, but they're so fucking unwieldy and intimidating.
Last night's dark Fritzl story was short on laughs, but very good. Pemberton was brilliantly creepy, and Nicola Stapleton was great, too.
