40 minutes! That's a shit load of footage. Be interesting to see it re-incorporated, in a similar way to the recent Superman II, Donner cut.

..but that 40 minutes may just mean a loose director's cut -meaning first assembly cut- without a proper soundtrack, these always get tightened up because the pace is always off and scenes go on for too long with extraneous dialogue etc. I doubt there's anything of real worth except maybe a few more guns and words.

These cuts are usually very rough and hard to watch for any long period of time

I bought an ex-rental VHS copy and then the DVD once it was about a fiver. There is a lot to like once you see past Sly and Fergie and I'd certainly buy a special edition DVD. I'd even pay full price!

Well even the rough cut of Alien 3, was a shit load better than the theatrical cut we ebded up with! So, I'd be up for a branching version.

Only the first half then it completely fell apart making the theatrical cut seem better at the end.

Remember Fincher is a cut above Danny Cannon as a film-maker and has gone on to a more illutrious career so even his failures are worth watching. The same can't be said of Cannon who is a workman like TV director, no mean feat but not the same barrel of shite.

It`s 149 pages long with pencilled alterations and yellow & orange highlighted sections. It belonged to stunt man Marc Boyle.

I read it once ages ago. I know those facts above as I`ve just got it out of my cellar of Dredd.

I don't believe I was comparing the directing ability of Cannon with Fincher, merely attempting to legitimize the release of a directors cut.
I don't share your view on Alien 3 either. The theatrical cut is already a compromised piece of work, suffering from Plot holes and inconsistencies-for one example, the plot's assertion that there is only one Alien loose, when there are cleary two different types present. The director's Cut's inclusion on the DVD is entirely valid.

But the story completely loses momentum and tension in the earlier Alien 3 cut. The theatrical dosen't. It's a flawed film anyway but far less flawed than Dredd. A longer cut of Dredd is not worth it for sales or any other merit IMHO.

If you look closely, There's clearly a, 'canine' evolved Alien and an Alien anthropoid in appearance. This is clear in the theatrical cut.

No, I really would never pay money for this dumb movie. I might conceivably watch it again if it was on 'terrestrial' television, but I really don't want my own personal copy. It would take up space that could more usefully house something - anything - else.
