I've been reading The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt, which was based on study of ethical decision making from people across the political spectrum.  The findings were basically that people on the left tend to not really care about things like tradition or respecting authority, but put a lot of emphasis in fairness and making sure people are protected from harm.  For right-wingers, tradition  and "purity" are much more important ("Sov-rin-tee!/build a wall!"), but their interest in the wellbeing of others extends tends to only go as far as their ingroup. They care deeply about the other members of their team, but much less about "others". 

So many people in the Republican inner circle quickly finding out that the Trump inner circle consists of Trump.

Scotland's covid contact tracing app has been downloaded 900,000+ times in the last few days.   If you're a person in Scotland and you own a phone, get it downloaded.  Not only will it help in preventing the spread of this dastardly virus, but everytime the app is downloaded Matt Hancock looks more incompetent.

Snowpiercer the TV show initially looks like its going down the same track (a pun!) as the film, then smartly going off the rails (another one!). Whereas the movies a lot of action, the series is a political murder mystery. The casting in the first episode is very clever.

Pat Mills is clearly an iconic figure who's done some fantastic work, but I've always felt a lot of his stuff was just aimed at filling pages, or even actively poor.  Moore hasn't produced anything less than excellent for 2000AD.

My favourite thing about 8 is that it shows the machismo heroism for what it is - getting people killed for personal glory - and replaces it with a gentler heroism, where people fight for love rather than hate, and waiting for an opportunity is a better idea than flying directly at a Stardestroyer .  All the bombast of the Camino scenes is pointless...except that they allow the weird animal things to run free, which in this kinder philosophy is valuable in itself.  The tropes of old are cast aside as swaggering rogues are shown not as romantic heroes but just as self interested bastards, easily forgotten.  The force isn't about a bunch of elitist monks passing judgement from atop a tower, it's a connection anyone can feel, that brings everyone together.

Then 9 happened. A film that required a prologue in Fortnite.

As someone who writes instructions and explains things to people for a living, I have to say, that was a complete fucking shambles.

So there's an R number, and it has to be less than 1, but it's somewhere between 0.5 and 0.9, and we have a rating system that goes from level 5 to level 1, and that's at 4, and we'll work on getting it to 3 by trying to meet 5 tests so we stay below 1, and as the rating goes from 4 to 3 we'll move from stage 1 to stages 2 and 3.  At Stage 1 you should work at home of you can, but go to work if you can, unless your place of work is closed, and you shouldn't use public transport, unless you need to, and you can go out if you like becuase some things are open now, but don't go anywhere that there are other people because if you do you might be fined. At stage 2, when we're at Level 3, things will be diferent.  It's almost time to start quaranteen for people who arrive in the country by plane, but just planes, and just by getting them to stay at home,to save lives
