Title: Shed:Con Raffle
Post by: [YT-2] on 25 September, 2005, 02:15:33 PM
Just popped in to see if there is a Shed:Con this year and if so is there a raffle?

If there is I should be able to get some prizes so if someone mails me and lets me know I'll see what I can dig up.

I'm sure there is, I just can't recall who was organising it.

BAH! blasted weddings, mean that I can attend this year, and unless Dreddcon is moved to mid September (but not the EXACT weekend where my brother is getting married) next year, then I won't be able to attend then either :-(

So what are the details about Shed:Con? Specifically, where is it taking place, and at what time? And since I doubt that there's be anyone there I've met before, how will I know when I've arrived at the right place?

Cheers,

In the absence of a plan to the contrary ShedCon is in the Three Goats Heads (next to the DreddCon venue) in the upstairs bar. If the first arrivals head for the two tables furthest from the road then hopefully the whole of that area will end up with ShedConners.

I don't mind bringing two decks of Dredd cards to use as raffle tickets.

Cheers,

Wake

>So what are the details about Shed:Con?

Go to pub (3 Goats heads - next to dreddcon venue) on friday from late afternoon, early evening onwards.

Bring comics related stuff for raffle.

Look for people sat around table who are comics fans (comics on table may give you a clue which they are... otherwise general largeness might be a hint)

Engage in conversation with comic fans

Buy beer, drink beer, repeat for rest of night.

I was a bit concerned about this last year, being my first Shed, but believe me, a group of comic fans is very easy to spot, really!

Damn work, can I have a raffle ticket anyway? Please?

I dont mind doing the raffle if no one else wants to take it on?

If anyone is bringing prizes if they could give me an idea of what they are it'll give me an idea of what to bring from the office.

OK, thought I'd get a year off for good behaviour but I'll sort out some raffle tickets and get bring some prizes to add to whatever anyone else brings.

As usual first out of the Dredd beanie gets to pick and so on until its only the crap prize that nobody wants is left.

If someone has the Shed:Con artwork can they e-mail it to me and I'll knock of a couple of A3 sized Shed:Con posters to stick at the end of the bar.

Dunno if thsi would be a raffle item, but I have a couple of novels by Mark Frost, co-creator of Twin Peaks, to give away to whoever wants them.

They're set during the Victorian era and star Arthur Conan Doyle, and would probably be of particular interest to any Necronauts fans out there.

Title: Re: Shed:Con Raffle
Post by: DavidXBrunt on 28 September, 2005, 03:19:35 AM
How about we offer the comics as prizes and then get an adress from whoever claims them and post them direct to them later. It'll be cheaper that way, and we could print the covers out as tokens for the day.
Title: Re: Shed:Con Raffle
Post by: [YT-2] on 28 September, 2005, 04:51:50 AM
Sounds like a good idea, if PVS can let me know what he has in his prize bag I'll print off tokens to be claimed later.

If people definately know what they are putting in the raffle let me know so I can see what I need to bring.

Irvings Frankenstein,
Rebellions Day of the Droids.
Titans Day the law died, Cursed Earth, Rogue Trooper.
Possibly some others but those for certain.

I'm tempted to send what I can first class tomorrow and hope for the best.  I'd send it next day, but it's one of those awkward end of the month, up to the edge of overdraft affairs.

Blame the car.

What I can do is send a list in advance to YT2 in case it doesn't turn up.  How does that sound?

Title: Re: Shed:Con Raffle

Yes. Yes I am. Many sketches. Involving the words 'taste my daystick, punk' and 'my old cucumber' and 'the durdee poison is deadly, gotta suck it out'.

All in your notebook that you left on the table while you queued at the bar.

I've got some shit mid-90's comics and a shit dvd that are interesting in a "how not to do it" kind of way to throw in the pot. If you're unfortunate enough to win them you can probably offload them to some sucker on E-Bay.

The Shed:Con raffle was mostly an excuse for me to get rid of some unwanted stuff. Each year the raffle has grown and last year took ages to get through. The only etiquette is that you have to come to Shed:Con and not be a complete twat. No prizes need to be donated but a beer to the raffle organiser may ensure that you win (it won?t but you can try) during the evening everyone will be given a card to write their name on and all the names go into my Dredd beanie. As the names are drawn out the lucky Shed:Coner gets to pick a prize and this carries on till all the prizes have gone. Last year all the cards had to be returned to the beanie as there were enough prizes to give everyone at least one prize.

Shed:Con normally gets going around 19:00hrs and the raffle gets going 20:30hrs - 21:00hrs. There's no hard and fast timings as I make it up as I go along.

I'm sure the boarders who attended will give a more detailed account of the evening but the raffle seemed to go down well with everyone getting at least two prizes.

You make Mulcher look positively generous!

Ah... fair's fair- it's a work of genius.  Even if it is for all the wrong reasons.  I'd scan my favourite bit to share with the rest of the board, but I'm having scanner difficulties at the minute.  That and the fact that I'm not sure it'd even be funny in a normal state of mind...

I'm intrigued by the background bloke in the green suit.  I mean, blue hair, white skin, pointy ears... though to their credit, the coppers don't seem to be batting an eyelid.

Obviously they're really open-minded.  Or just distracted by the brolly/evil spirits deathmatch kicking off behind them.

You do realise that under shed-con raffle rules you have to read whatever you took cover-to-cover (or watch ... were there any DVDs this year?) or you will be afflicted by the Dread Curse of Shedcon!!! (Wyatt never watched all of Black Samuarii and look what's happened to him)

This of course means I've got wade through those two Mark Frost novels...

Title: Re: Shed:Con Raffle

Um, I did finish it in the end you know... Black Samurai infiltrates a 1960s hipster party, and the bad guy has a pet vulture, which is quite cool, but other than that it's a LOT of driving around, walking about, mumbled dialoge and about two fights.

"20 missing pages notwithstanding, it was the prize of the weekend!"

That annual did prove to be ridiculously entertaining, if only for the bright day-glo colour-seperation.

Personally my favourite illo was the two policemen sitting in their squad car for an hour. Or possibly the tap dancing policeman.

Bou - I used to make Airfix model planes (and I was pretty damn good at painting them too!), but I didn't need to read books on chess - I actually played it instead, and lived the dream!

Indeed so - most of it was filler, but we'll get away with it if no-one draws any attention to the fact.
Not that I'd know anything about filling a book with nowt but filler and having the gumption to expect people to pay 2 quid for it.

I've been skimming parts of the Dredd screenplay and some of it is just pure genius.  For example, this particularly fantastic snippet comes after Dredd and Giant encounter Judge Death and, er, shoot him with a rocket launcher:

GIANT: GOOD GRUD, DREDD!  WHAT KIND OF MONSTER WAS THAT?

DREDD: A TOASTY ONE.

Pure fecking genius.

After the bollocking I got from Logan for being a 'lurker' at Shedcon, (described to me as the boarding equivelent of dogging....) I thought it prudent that I finally break my silence.

A HUGE thank you to everyone for making this newbie feel so welcome her first time.  My pathetic 12-month collection of reading material got a serious shot in the arm with an impressive haul in the Sheddcon raffle (the 1st 15 Megs alone near doubled it!).

I had a whale of a time meeting so many genuine and enthusiastic people on Saturday and furthering my Dredductation (hey, did you see what I did there) with a peek at the original artwork of his first appearence was very pleasing indeed.  As was the Henry Flint page Ollie not-very-subtly got for me as an anniversary gift..... Any ideas as to unusual reading material I could (frugally) reciprocate with?

Max's pitch really was an eye-opener!  It had seemed to make more sense through a bottle of wine, though.

Hmmmmm, not as difficult as I thought, this posting lark.  I may even venture an opinion or two in the future........ well, one step at a time, eh?

TwoTonneTonyXTubbs - I'm chasing up those reccommendations as we speak.

LMS - Another great big thankyou for the bed.  That last 100 miles would probably have killed us all!!!
