It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, thrills in every store! Oooooooh, it's here, the highlight of the year, welcome to the eighth 2000AD Advent Calendar 2018!!!

Last year, we kept this thread comment free and full of juicy Christmas Thrillpower so I'll start a new thread for comments here: https://forums.2000ad.com/index.php?topic=45575.0

This years' offering from me is bittersweet; it's a heartfelt tribute to King Carlos who sadly passed away in October. You'll find it here: https://youtu.be/Oqn4i8iDMvs

Thanks in advance to everybody who signed up to the calendar, I can't wait to see what you come up with! Also, a massive thanks to all the folks who've contributed to the board this year, you all make my day, even the ones who have tantrums over my art comp entries! Real life means I can't get on here as often as I'd like but I do try and catch up at least once a day.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND GRUD BLESS US EVERYONE!

Been enjoying this the past few years so thought it was about time I contributed something. Hope you enjoy, and Merry Christmas!

Let it Snow - a Judge Dredd Christmas story

It was Christmas Eve and Dredd was patrolling Sector 40. The city was quiet aside from a few groups of late night revellers, some of whom Dredd had cuffed to holding posts for D&D. As Dredd was passing John McTiernan block, he glanced up to the roof and noticed a flurry of snow falling, localised only to the block. After checking with Weather Control that no snow was planned until the annual short burst the following day, Dredd parked his Lawmaster and made his way up to the roof. His tight boots made large footprints in the inch-deep covering. An illegal Weather Control disruptor was in the middle of the roof and Dredd was just about to blow it to smithereens with Hi-Ex when a juve walked out of the door behind him, stopping short when he saw the lawman.

"J-Judge Dredd!"

"Is this your doing, creep?"

"Y-Yes!"

"Explain yourself before I decide how much time you'll be doing."

The juve hesitated, but then a look of defiance replaced the fear on his face.

"I know it was a hard time for you guys when the ice aliens attacked, but I looked out over the city when it was covered in snow and thought it was beautiful. I wanted to see that again, just for one night. The bit we get tomorrow is nothing, it's gone in seconds, you might as well not bother. This is a white Christmas."

Dredd considered this. His city and people had been through hell more times than he could count, and he often felt ten times his age, despite the rejuves. Shouldn't the citizens be allowed just some fleeting moments of happiness?

"I'm taking this machine, and giving you a caution, son. Consider it your Christmas present from Justice Department. Don't let me catch you up here again."

With that, Dredd picked up the machine and returned to his Lawmaster, leaving the astonished juve staring after him. Maybe he was getting soft in his old age.

It's both my birthday AND my day for the advent calendar! I signed up early to scoop everyone else who thought about doing one of these :D

A Visit From Judge Dredd
by Conrad of Space Spinner 2000
(based on A Visit From St. Nicholas by Clement Moore Clark)

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the cubes
Not a creature was stirring, not even a juve
The perps were all locked in their jail cells with care
And were well behaved 'cause Judge Dredd was there
He'd come to Block-I on special assignment
With vision of jail break plans come into alignment
And Dredd in his helmet, and I with my loadout
Had just settled in for a long winter's stakeout
When through the east wall there arose such a clatter
Dredd sprang into action to see what was the matter
Away to the view-screen I flew like a flash,
I pulled up security feed 801/
The moon on the breast of a refurbished bot
Gave a lustre of midday as two figures fought
For what to my wondering eyes did appear,
It was a powerful war-droid, knocking Dredd on his rear
But the little old judge so lively and quick
I knew in a moment he had the bot licked
More rapid than eagles his lawgiver came
And he aimed, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Standard! Now, Hot Shot! Now Hi-Ex and Incendiary!
On Dodge 'em on Armor piercing, on stun shot and boot knife!
To the perp's head! To the perp's skull!
Now shoot away! Shoot away! Shoot away all!"
As leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, blow it into the sky
So out through the iso cubes the bullets they flew
To impact the war-droid, and Judge Dredd came too--
And then, in a twinkling, I opened up all the cubes
The jail cells were emptying, even the juves!
As i drew in my head, and was turning around,
In through the door the Droid came with a bound
He was clad all in metal, from his trunk to his hood
And his chassis was all tarnished with ashes and blood
The body of Dredd he had flung on his back
And he looked like a demon, his chest badge said TAX
His armor-how it twinkled! His gun barrels how scary!
His eyes glowed like roses, his mood set to bury!
His droll other chest badge was drawn up so to see
That was was the old guard, was marked ABC
The stump of a boot knife was jammed tight in his head
And back from behind, came the revived Judge Dredd!
He quickly got free and punched the droid in its belly,
And the robot malfunctioned, like a bowl full of jelly.
The war droid went down, with a right jolly old SQUELF
And I laughed when I saw it, in spite of myself.
With a shot to its core and twist to its head
Soon I was alone in the room with ol' Judge Dredd
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work
And beat up all the rioters, including the jerks!
And laying a finger aside of his gun
And giving a nod, the perps turned to run
They sprang to their cells, so fast that they whistled
And back down the doors clamped, the escape plan had fizzled
But then Judge Dredd grabbed me, I felt the cuffs tighten-
"Merry Christmas to all, you're going to Titan!"
