He's called Nick Chinland (a name more suitable for a Dredd actor) in real-life, and this seems to be the only pic of him out there in webland...

As A1 has just re-released Bricktop and the Bojeffries saga in about a hundred different variant covers, I was kept browsing far, Far, FAR longer than I normally do this month.

"yeah, that's on *my* shopping list too."

Ah, but we're going to have to wait a *full* month for it!

Anyway, does yourself or anyone else here know why all Hellraiser collections refuse to acknowledge this...

http://www.all-reviews.com/images/videos/hellraiser4.gif>

It's Aliens, but with Cenobites!

The director is credited as Alan Smithee, which as those in the know will tell you, is the name embarrassed directors use when they wish to be disassociated with their films.

I may be being dim here and answering my own question, but this may be a clue as to why it's never included in the box sets ;)

I find play.com to be far better value, not just for Dr Who, but in general. If you have a store near you, you can save at least another ?2.00 rather than paying on postage.

"It doesnt look like the logo of a comic anymore, more of a designer label."

I read that this is apparently the intention. Rebellion want to maintain a brand logo that is as recognisable as those of Superman, Batman etc.

It's your stamp of quality folks. Don't knock it ;)

General / Re: Pat Mills Interview
29 August, 2004, 04:49:04 AM
I thought it was an very insightful interview. You can see that Pat is very guarded, perhaps even touchy on a number of questions (his short and sometimes abrupt answers gave me the impression he thought they might be leading elsewhere and so moved on quickly.), while at other times acting like a child trying to keep a secret.

I agree with a lot of what he was saying, but I also think his treatment from some of the die-hard fans has left him unable to accept any form of critiscism at all now. This is a shame really, because I feel that a lot of the comments that have been made over the years are entirely valid.

I personally feel that Pat, like any of the other great 2K writers has had his share of ups and downs (Remember that even John Wagner has lost the plot on more than one occasion. I Was A Tennage Tax Consultant anyone?), but when he does hit the mark he does it so well, you forget what all the negativity was about.

In closing, give the man some respect for being so committed to one of your interests and consider just how difficult it is trying to create a commercially successful story that appeals to everyone all at once. I mean let's face it, it's always about money, but at least Pat wants it to entertain and inform you as well.

Remember, he gave you dinosaurs Vs cowboys. Gold!(Don't mention "Valley of Gwangi" though)

Noah. DAMN!!! THAT'S what I forgot to get two of!

It *was* Bradbury's the Martian Chronicles. It's actually quite dull and I guess the reason you and so many other people, myself included, only seem to remember that bit is because it's really the most memorable part of around three hours worth of sleep-dust.

It's also out on DVD on September 7th if you *really* want to sit through it all again.http://media.bestprices.com/content/dvd/60/228865.jpg">

News / Re: Alien 5
27 August, 2004, 03:33:37 AM
"The creature to come from that chest (space jockey's) must have been massive."

The Space Jockey was originally intended to be human size until Ridley Scott decided it would look more impressive scaled up, so he dressed children (his own included) in smaller versions of the crews spacesuits to create the illusion of scale (It's only noticable once you know, and even then not that much).

It's a good idea, but the downside to this is that it does make it look like the jockey has "birthed" a gigantic alien. Although in retrospect of the Alien sequels and them developing their hosts characteristics, this can now be easily explained away.

"Who laid all the eggs?"

That is never fully explained, but they were only *stored* on the ship, not laid. That's why they are arranged in neat rows, and more importantly contained behind a force field.

"Originally they reproduced as I described before, the eggs are the remains of the crew of the ship."

According to press relase from the time of the film (which has been expanded on ever since), the Alien was a bio-weapon developed/enhanced by the Space Jockeys race. The eggs were in a containment/stasis field, which was broken by Kane when he fell, thus triggering the face-hugger.

The Space Jockey had fallen foul of one of the eggs himself, leading him to land the ship and trigger the warning beacon (Bio-Hazard). This was later intercepted by the Nostromo and assumed to be a distress beacon.
