Just started playing Warhammer Vermintide , it was only £8.00 in the Xbox sale... blatant rip off,of Left4dead but I'm enjoying it up to now...

It made me want to play L4D again rather than carrying on playing Vermintide.

I've installed the 50GB(!) download on to my PS4 but I'm still not expecting to drop any actual money on MEA until the price drops to the sub-£20 mark, mind you. (Unless the trial absolutely blows me away, which I guess is what BioWare is hoping but word of mouth suggests it probably won't. We'll see.)
I've played about 6 hours of the 10-hour MEA trial, with a restart/new character after the first 2-3 hours when I decided to change her name, and it's... all right. I played the ME Trilogy on PC so this is my first time playing the franchise on a console; the controls are somewhat fiddly and the interface isn't as intuitive as Horizon's or even Inquisition's. Always puzzles me why BioWare make two franchises with utterly different controls meaning you (I!) have to unlearn one before getting to grips with another. Good job I'm playing on Narrative mode because my shooting sucks; the combat mechanism is very 'slippery' and I end up shooting dirt/air as much as Kett and Wraiths. I got quite adept at melee combat in ME 3 (on PC) but here, on PS4, I'm kind of struggling. Which is a pain since I'm playing a Scrapper/Vanguard rather than a Soldier/sniper type as usual and the build requires more a close combat play style. Still, I'll probably get the hand of it in time.

Speaking of which, aware of the trial's ticking clock, I'm probably rushing things somewhat rather than taking my time to explore the game or understand how it works, which arguably doesn't help. For instance, I've got no idea how to go about modifying/customising my weapons despite picking up a bunch of mods in the Prologue. (Guess I have to wait to get the Tempest.) Overall, I've found the Prologue's Tutorials pretty poor compared to HZD's imo. Feels like BioWare have decided that everyone's going to know how everything works out of the gate - and if it had copied ME3's combat/mechanics they'd probably be right - but it's pretty opaque to me atm.

I like my 'Izzy Ryder' well enough to be up for continuing her adventure when the trial ends but I'm trying hard to resist the current price point. Maybe in six months or so I'll feel better inclined to lay out money for MEA but for the moment it hasn't got its hooks in me - yet.

You getting very familiar like other guy?

Definitely Not Mister Pops

Portal

Replayed on a whim, now it's 4am and I don't regret anything. Except that I can't just start Portal 2 because of stupid grown up obligations.

It's a perfect game.
You may quote me on that.

I'm playing the shit out of Horizon Zero Dawn and it's brilliant! Despite me being really far into it and levelling up significantly, the battles with the (amazingly cool) robotic beasties are still very frantic and challenging.

It has to be one of the most beautiful games I've played too, very next gen Red Dead Redemtion. It's one of those where sometimes I just stop and gawp at the scenery.

It's very long too, which is nice!

Yeah, I played that game to death! Great story, great gameplay, stunning visuals. It's the only game I have ever got Platinum for.  I'm very much looking forward to the expansion in December.

In the meantime, Elite Dangerous on PS4 is taking all of my attention. It's a hell of a lot of fun, but such a steep learning curve. It really throws you in at the deep end, but benefits from being multiplayer. If you have a few buds playing alongside you it's great to share hints and tips.

For example, I had no idea how to get the most out of the galaxy map, planning routes, trading etc, until a PS4 Pal showed me. In return, I was able to explain how the power coupling vastly increased power to shields and weapons. Also, flying in wings with your online friends has a real 'Star Wars' squadron feel to it.

Be warned though - this game is a hell of a time sink! You can log on with the intention of just nailing a few pirates, and the next thing you know 5 hours has passed, and you're a hundred light years from your starting point!

Apestrife

Prey, the 2017 one.

Didn't have as much fun as with the "original" (games are nothing alike outside the title). Didn't think it was as fun as the titles it's been inspired by either. System Shock, Thief, Deux Ex, Bioshock and what not. They all did, and still do, things better than Prey tried gameplay wise. Same goes with writing.

A bit dissapointed. I liked the demo.  Had much going for it. Cool historical backdrop. Good design. Aliens that initially gave me an unease. But I don't think it was polished enough. Lots of good ideas, but it didn't live up to it. But it did have a cool twist in the ending. I'll give it that.

Keef Monkey

Yeah that was more or less my experience. I might have mentioned in this thread already, but because of the designs and the atmosphere and intriguing set-up I don't think I've ever found myself wanting to enjoy a game so much more than actually enjoying it. Found it really dull and frustrating as it wore on (the combat never, ever clicked with me as anything other than a chore to get through for the next bit of story). Pretty disappointed, but would definitely give a sequel a go if I heard enough good things about it.

Apestrife

Have you played the others I mentioned? System Shock 1-2 (1 is getting a remake, and a third is in the making) or Bioshock 1-3?

I liked the glue gun, but it became to easy (and more "fun") just using the shotgun. Nothing like in a game like Deus Ex (the two originals) where I'd switch it up for every playthrough. Everything from bazookas to stun prods.

Still. As you say. Hope they get to make a sequel of sorts.

Keef Monkey

Have never played a System Shock, although I really enjoyed the Bioshock games. Loved them actually, keep meaning to go back and play again now they're remastered on console! Pretty sure I have a PC copy of System Shock 2 on Steam, so I'll probably get round to that at some point, sounds cool.

Dr Feeley Good

Just started Borderlands 2 on the Xbox One, my lad has been on about me playing it for years.....

The Enigmatic Dr X

Football Manager 2006

Wolves have just won a treble and the European Cup in 2027.
Lock up your spoons!

Satanist

Battlefield 1 - I really don't get on with Battlefield but have been enjoying playing as a sniper.
Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?

Lots of good stuff in PS4 sale at the moment. Picked up Doom and the Uncharted trilogy.  I somehow managed to avoid uncharted up to this point, I love it! But then I also loved the latest Tomb Raider games that are very similar.

Yes, I've been hoovering up those PSN deals.

I keep finding myself going back to The Witcher 3 despite the fact the only remaining motivations for exploration are a few random deep sea caches in Skellige, so picked up Dragon Age Inquisition GOTY edition for €10 to help wean myself off it.

Also picked up a few other bargains for around a fiver;

Outlast - Never played it before. Decent horror game, doesn't quite live up to the hype.
What Remains of Edith Finch - The only game my other half had been interested in playing with me since Until Dawn. We both really enjoyed it, very atmospheric, and the best use of John Carpenter's Halloween theme since 1978.
Oxenfree - Spent a few hours on this yesterday afternoon, and am itching to get back to it tonight. So far it's The Goonies meets Channel Zero: Candle Cove with great dialogue and charming art direction. Highly recommended, especially at that price.
