Title: LOEG: The Tempest
Post by: Leigh S on 14 July, 2018, 08:17:00 PM
No one else got this?  I was surprised to find it in FP this afternoon... need a reread of the Black Dossier I think before tackling this

Me too. I enjoyed this a lot, especially the references to British superheroes.

If anyone is interested here's Jason Nevin's annotations for the first issue http://www.jessnevins.com/annotations/tempestannotations.html

Can't say I recognize half of it, but I still liked it. A charming read. Really feels like Moore is set on finishing up the story.

Yeah,  enjoyed it.  Like the way it immediately ties directly into Black Dossier,  the Nemo books and of course Century, comic and text pieces both. No messing around here, Moore's heading straight for the finish line.

The Baxendale piece was good too,  can't believe I didn't know he'd stopped working for the Beano before I ever read it,  always assumed it was his stuff I'd started on.

That's quite a read - though too hot for me to stand up and fetch the comic itself from the next room!  Have to re-read the page again when I have issue in front of me.

So many Legion of Super-Hero references packed into page 2.

When I started work for DCT in the 90s, his name was spoken only in hushed tones. I remember one editorial veteran saying to me: "He left under a cloud."

Check out the cover for issue 6. Did Kevin O'Neill design that logo?

Not sure what's going on in this series, but it's a lot of fun: Moore and O'Neill going crazy with a mash-up of just about any comic style you can think of.
Plus, turns out Purdey and Patsy were the same person.
Best League book for a long time.

And issue 4 has a single-panel appearance by Nemesis the Warlock!

Wow! That is super cool, almost... ironic? poetic? that it's the final League issue and it's got 2000 AD theming for its cover design.

Putting "great news for readers inside" on the cover of the final ever issue is brilliant.

Looks great, and I'm kinda remorseful I waited for the collected edition this time.

If I remember correctly, Todd Klein has done a lot of the cover design work on the League series and from a previous (brief) chat with him online, this is likely his work (though probably working off detailed designs/cover concepts from Kevin).

It's executed really nicely, much like all of the other cover pastiches through this series. Great stuff!

The 2010 AD cover? That won't be out for a few months, the latest issue is issue 04 from last week. It looks like this.

It's possible US and UK have different release dates, because Top Shelf publishes it in NA and Knockabout in the UK. But I definitely got it last week.

Love the fact that Kev O'Neill is going so long he's in a position to parody a 70s comic he was a huge part of.

For UK types wanting to get hold of this - I always buy my copies direct from the Knockabout Ebay shop. I've had issue 4 since Tuesday so it's definitely out.

Gosh!  The one towards Seven Dials (Covent Garden) is Orbital and the one on Shaftesbury Avenue is Forbidden Planet.

The collected hardback edition of this is now out, and I have just finished it.

No idea if I liked the book or not. The constant genre-flipping obscures the plot and characters to the point where you have to work quite hard to keep track of who people are or what they are doing. Still, there are many fantastic ideas, and of course the art is lovely.

What really comes through is how angry both Moore and O'Neil are about the comics industry. Hardly surprising they have both walked away.
