...i used to be a great fan of the newspaper serial comic strip in the Sun called AXA. I was recently digging through my 2000Ad collection and re-discovered that she appeared (as far as i know) in 2 issues (#4 & #5) of the 1992 united states version of 2000AD called 2000AD Showcase, firstly was this the only 2 issues she appeared in and why did she appear anyway? shes not exactly a 2000AD character is she????...

Like Garth, another strip to read over breakfast and oggle the boobies on display. God, it was great being a teen in the 70's.
She always reminded me of Cupid Stunt - "and then all my clothes fell off"

She's been reprinted quite a bit, both in GN format and coloured US size comic compilations by First American Edition Series and Eclipse.

Never seen the Showcase editions though, but didn't Quality start featuring non AD characters in their compilations too?http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v63/Mangamax/axa.jpg">

Yup, Quality filled those books with any (colourised) strip they could get their hands on, including the likes of The Sun's Axa (itself a reprint from Europe) and Smash's Cursitor Doom (rebranded as 'Amadeus Wolf').

There was an Eclipse reprint series in the US - if I get a chance, I'll try and scan one of the ads for it, along with a contemporary article on the series in the Comics Journal at the time.

Mangamax

For some Bizarro reason, the only time she appears on eBay these days is only ever issue 2 of the American reprint and no other

Wait, that ran in a Newspaper?

God I love your country.

Funt Solo

Well, it ran in The Sun, which describes itself as a newspaper.  (Their definition of "news", I assume, is "shit we make up".)

Ah. That paper (I was just commenting on in the "Doctor Who Cancelled" thread) I can see nudey comics running in a tabloid rag.

Dunk!

Wow, Axa! I used to love that strip as a kid and then slightly more as a young teen.

Then i discovered Druuna...

I feel there's such an untapped market for reprinting all these old newspaper strips.

...i remember reading somewhere that Axa appeared in some original stories in Sweden, is this maybe what was reprinted in America as 2000AD Showcase, i remember the title being something like Magnet or Magnum, never seen a copy but i think it was rumoured that our good friend Dredd also appered in said magazine, does anyone have anymore info?...

Eric Plumrose

I can't remember which company reprinted those strips that featured in The Pun but the Eclipse comic conatined original material.
Not sure if pervert or cheesecake expert.

The Early Showcases were all 2000 AD material but later on they reprinted other strips.

Axa appeared in the Sun from about 1978 - 1986 but the last story was axed halfway through.
Eclipse printed two issues of new stories

Why, Chuck Dixon's writing, of course! The same as me, I'm sure.

Here's that AXA Eclipse ad, as well as the piece on the Sun's picking up the series:
