Hi Guys,
Some truly great artwork on here..
Here's a piece that arrived for me today from Canada...Bought via CAF site and featuring Hitman by John McCrea....Done in 20004 as a convention sketch but measures 12" by 18"......Just a great piece of McCrea artwork.   Bought for my sons' birthday ( and his collection ), but looking at it I'm surely tempted to keep it myself...Joking of course ... ::)
Cheers,
Bob

Hi Guys,
Just got 'into' Transmetropolian recently, and absolutely love that Spider Jerusalem piece by Darrick Robertson than Simontm has posted....Really excellent artwork...
Here's a piece ( again ) by the hugely talented and IMO under-rated John McCrea of Billy Butcher from 'The Boys' done at Thoughtbubble, Leeds 2012 for only £20 !! ?? ......Amazingly talented guy, and what a really, really nice, and very 'chatty' bloke...

Ps :  If anyone here has missed out on reading 'The Boys'........Grab the series as soon as you can,  and catch up......12 volumes in its' entirity, and it's just epic......Everything you want ( certainly what I want anyway ) in a graphic novel.......Great artwork, Humour, violence, Conspiracies, sex, politics, did I mention gratuitous violence ??, corrupt superheroes,  and of course, lashing of sex and gratuitous violence...Just a great series......
Question : If you wanted to join the 'elite' superhero team on earth .......What would you do ????  All explained in Volume 1........ Highly recommended...
Cheers,
Bob

Hi again, Guys,
The very last piece of artwork that I've got, that is non 2000AD related, is a Wolverine Zombie convention sketch by the amazing Sean Phillips...Artist for the Marvel Comics Zombie series.....Bought this from the CAF site a few months ago....
I'm a big fan of his work, and have about 5 original published pieces featuring Devlin Waugh...

At the moment just waiting for a convention sketch by John McCrea ( again ) to arrive at my home of  The Punisher....Also bought from the CAF website....Think I need to stop going there, as I'm skint again..
Cheers,
Bob

It was worth the visit though!!

Very nice sketches

Cheers, Skullmo,
Yes, definitely worth the visit.......The sketches are in Watercolour by Sean Phillips.  He was one of the original artists of the Marvel Zombies series of graphic novels...The 1st sketch is an 'ordinary' Hulk...The second sketch is the Zombie Hulk after tearing off Iron Mans' head.
Not read any of the Marvel Zombies but quite liked this artwork when I saw it.....Especially as it's in colour..The Zombie Hulk is for my sons' birthday or Xmas and will match the Zombie Wolverine he's already got..

A present for my Dad's upcoming birthday, seeing as he's become a huge Breaking Bad fan (and he's a nicer Dad than Walter White to boot!)

A commission by Dave Golding.

So what's your take on 'Production Art' everyone?
I know it's technically not Original Art, but sometimes when trawling Ebay I see a piece that catches my eye.
Couldn't pass up this hand coloured Production Art 'Green Goblin' number 1 cover for $25 recently.
A very nice collectible, but not something i'll be buying a lot of methinks.

Personally, I like it (but don't have any).  One look at the glorious 2000AD pieces on Steve Cook's blog (http://secret-oranges.blogspot.com/) is enough to show that the production art itself also often represents something unique and, with colouring by the likes of Tom Frame, should be seen as one-off pieces of art in it's own right.

Good example & point Ming.

Would some kind person on this forum, please explain to me the difference between the two.......I understand 'original artwork',  but despite having seen several really nice pieces of 'Production Art' at very good prices indeed, I'm unsure what they are and have hesitated to buy any !!...Are they prints of the originals and then re-coloured or what ??
Cheers.. :).

My understanding is that they're essentially photocopies of original art on acetate overlays for colouring and/or lettering purposes. I may be wrong, of course... :-\

'Rare' photocopies
It's a joke. I was joking.

My take on production art that I've come across (mostly on EBay)- a copy of the original art, sized and bordered for the print process, usually hand coloured by a professional colourist (although I'm sure it could also be coloured by another artist or by the original artist themselves).

Is it something I'd view as 'original art'? Don't know for sure.
But I've seen copies of the same page in different formats all described as the 'original art' (i.e. prelim / pencils / inked pencils / painted page).
