61 - it cant be nostalgia cos I wasnt buying the prog at the time! :)

Its not my favourite McM (204,204,204...), but just on the strength of his massive contribution to covers Does he have something like 7 out of the top ten covers elsewhere on the site?), McM beats everyone else hands down

General / Re: Nemesis: The final conflict......

Its the only reason I can think of, though its a shame if the story was cut short just for that reason.  Still, it was fitting that the story that started life as "comic Rock" should finsih with a greatest hits compilation... just a shame it wasnt a double album!

General / Nemesis: The final conflict.
26 June, 2003, 11:59:42 PM
Something that I dont think was touched upon in TPO - In the interview Pat Mills gives in the Titan reprint of Nemesis books 1 and 3 (March 92), Pat says hes got two more books worth of Nemesis to wrap up the story - "Hammer of the Warlocks" and "The Trial of Torquemada".

I always felt the final book was a little rushed and felt like it should have been over two books, and reading this interview confirms it!

Obviously, both of these storylines were condensed into the "final conflict" book - was this for any reason other than to end the story in prog 2000?

Suggestions / Re: The Judge Dredd Megazine...

"This is a format that works in America, so why not do it over here. Rebellion may then start selling larger volumes in the States."

Do comics sell well in the States? - per head of population, I expect 2000AD and probably the Megazine are read by a larger percentage of the population than American comics - They sell what? - 100,000 copies (including exports?) in a country 10 times the size of the UK - hardly a success story.  I blame that Alan Moore....:)

Suggestions / Re: The Judge Dredd Megazine.........

Well for my money the megazine was at its best with the TPO run - a real read, not something you could read in half an hour. The text stories havent really hit the right note yet, but the potential for text stories is massive (see the old Annual stories like "day in the death of citizen Egg - one of the best dreddworld stories ever - comic strips included)

Dredd world stories tend to be shite if not by Wagner, so why try to wear out the poor guy?  Can anyone name me a good Dredd world story - probably the best has been Missionary Man, and that was set in the Cursed earth, which is a great setting with a lot of backstory already developed.  Waugh is good, but it may as well not be Dredd world for the most part.  Other than that, they have pretty much all been either derivative or plain 'wrong'.

I want something more than just comic strip after comic strip  - I would have thought with your interest in (certain ;)) early progs that features on the history of 2000AD would be right up yopur street, Tarantino.  Remember its the historical importance of these strips and creators that mean people are willing to pay ridiculous sums for old issues.... The more the importance of this history is validated through articles like TPO, the more your back progs value will soar!

Yeah, Odds - thats what I thought - the Inferno Walter is like a Luna1 style Walter, but I think by that time, Wagner had already done the story in the 1992 annual (The Sleeper) which showed how Walter had made his fortune from selling on ownerless Droids after Necropolis and dropped his lisp (though still harbouring a burning desire to go back to er - serving Dredd).  Admittedly, by the end of the story, Walter was begging Dredd to take him back and the lisp came back!

I think in "Giant" Walter mentions the Inferno story, but I get the sense that line was subbed in - really, the Inferno Walter just ballses up Wagners character development by ignoring the fact that Dredd had destroyed Walter both financially and emotionally at the end of "the Sleeper".

Come again?

The only story I can remember featuring Walter by Morrison and Millar is Inferno, and that shows a standard simpering Walter.  It was Wagner and grant who developed Walter from simpering sidekick to successful business, to bum (Dredds destroys his thriving business!), to bitter Anti-Walter and back - I seem to recall that Morrisons Walter was completely out of character with Walter as he was in other Dredds at the time...or am I confusing myself here?

Prog / Re: PROG 1346 IS HERE! (SPOILERS)....
25 June, 2003, 10:51:05 PM
Yayy - either the wait made the prgo seem even more thrill packed, or it was more thrill packed!

It certainly wasnt the Past Telguuth, which was pretty corny and not really muxh to do with the concept behind Past Imperfects I would have thought (though theres always part two I suppose)

Lobster's til tops, but if he physically can't sleep, how was he knocked out?  If a sleep drug is available, would Lobster be taking it?

Depends where you are in the country to how good postie is - these no-shows happen once or twice a year at most.  Personally, I'd say 9 out of ten arrive on a monday, with the odd Tuesday appearance and the even rarer no-prog-til-its-in the-shops disaster like this week.

Any idea what went wrong, Dom?
