Title: New specials: 2000 AD, Cor!!, Tammy, Vigilant, and more
Post by: IndigoPrime on 13 February, 2019, 07:03:07 PM
A proper big slab of news today, with a whopping EIGHT new Rebellion specials (https://2000ad.com/post/4952) over the next seven months. Six of them are available in a bundle (https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/B0011), which seems quite the bargain. 20 quid for all six (saving six quid), free shipping, and sent as and when they're released.

You can order the 2019 specials bundle from the 2000 AD shop (https://shop.2000ad.com/catalogue/B0011).

This is exciting news. Hopefully all these specials will be available digitally as well. Interesting to see that prog 2130 will be a 100-pager.

Not that far off!  In some ways, wish they ahd included the Roy of the Rovers in the bundle, as it will be hard to bring myself to buy it otherwise - (football argh!), but see the sense in keeping it separate

I'm especially looking forward to prog 2130.

Just placed my order. My only question is why were the other two excluded from the deal? To keep it to a nice round figure?

My guess: the 99p special is a comic-store-only thing (to tie into FCBD) and ROTR alone would add 50% to the bundle price. How many people who think "six specials for 20 quid – done!" wouldn't be so excited about seven for 30?

From the Hollywood Reporter about prog 2130 is that it will be called 2000 AD Regen for one episode since it will be "taken" over by the kids: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/2000-ad-publisher-reveals-ambitious-comic-book-plans-2019-1186305 (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/2000-ad-publisher-reveals-ambitious-comic-book-plans-2019-1186305)

Villains special IS included in the bundle - its the Regene and Roy of the Rovers excluded - Roy probably for the reasons you give and Regene because I am presuming as it is technically prog 2130, I will get that with my sub?

Oops. Well, in that case the Prog would come as part of the sub. The ROTR thinking stands.

Wow well done Lizzie.

It's also interesting to note Rebellion are dabbling with boosting their editorial as well as creative line ups.

This package is a great idea on Rebellion's part. I would probably only buy two or three of these individually, but have instead ordered the lot.

Same here. Sometimes, these things show up locally, but not always. And at that price AND with free shipping, it heads to total no-brainier territory. Plus I don't have to find a local comic shop that will actually get the Villains special in. (That might sound harsh, but the nearest place to here that does FCBD takes me ~40 mins to get to, costs £4 in parking, and last time only got in one copy of 2000 AD and suggested I be "first in line".)

I have very mixed feelings about FCBD and, in particular, how many of the "free" issues end up on eBay. Comic shops need all the support they can get but I'm not sure FCBD is the way to do that.

CalHab people has stopped reading FCBD is just method of getting people to at least read something. Maybe rather do what Rebellion is doing with the Villains special, make it really cheap and only cheap when buying it from a comic shop.

Sorry that waving reply to Calhab's post earlier -I wouldn't have bought them all individually but bought the bundle. Free p&p swung it.

I also prefer to be able to order the "FCBD" issue online even if it means paying for it. And yes I know the whole point is to get people in to comic shops, but I couldn't make it last year and had to resort to eBay. Fortunately I managed to get a copy at a reasonable price.

Interesting, and slightly disappointing, to note that Prog 2130 is now being trailed in Previews at 48 pages and not the 100 originally stated in the article linked at the top of this thread.
I wasn't overly fussed about the Regened FCBD issue, but accept that it probably wasn't entirely aimed at me anyway! But I was very much looking forward to a bumper "special edition" of kid-friendly proggage of the heft of the end of year progs.
I'm assuming the original press release was a mistake, but clarification would be good.

I am not sure if the total number of pages for org 2130 are going to be 48 or only the special part of the prog.  The special consists out of 6 stories whereas the normal part of the prog 4 stories.

I take from the wording there that the special is 48 pages (no regulars), and the other issues around it have the 4 ongoing stories?  Is that a Durham Red story it is talking about without mentioning Red? The story about the Intergalactic Bounty Hunter?

I think for prog 2130 the regular lineup will not be present and continue in the next prog.

Just to confirm- 2000AD Prog 2130 is effectively the Regened special this year?
Why not just release it as a stand alone special?

I for one will give it to my 9 year old son to read. There has to be a way to get him into "proper" comics and not just Ultimate Spider-man and Lego Star Wars.

I picked up the FCBD '2000AD Regened' issue last year.
Nicely put together, with some sharp artwork, but clearly not aimed at me, and not something I would ever consider buying.
It was promptly donated to a 4 year old.

I'm 100% behind getting new / younger readers on board the Thrill Train (I commonly buy extra copies of specials & end-of-year Progs for younger family members and children of my pals) just not sure why this material is being released in this format is all.

Also, not for nuthin, but I personally probably wouldn't have continued reading a publication as *cough* Toothless as '2000AD Regened' as a kid either.
The old ultraviolence was a key attraction for this 1980's sprog.

Hopefully with time more information will be released about prog 2130. I will wait for the released to cast my "vote". I still would prefer it to be a separate publication or that 2130 should have been a mega special as initially reported.

Ehh. I've all my cybernetic enhancements laid out and ready to go but I'd heard word in the past my style doesn't suit the mothership. (Have to be honest, can't really argue with that looking at the prog these days.) Hope springs eternal, obviously, but the sensibilities for the Cor!/Buster strip they asked me to do we're right up my alley!
