Links / Re: Ultimate link thread.
21 June, 2009, 01:06:52 PM
a big thanks to whoever posted the link to a whole bunch of 70s comics here - I'm happily working my way through 'Master of Kung Fu', amazed at the art which is unbelievably awful except when, later on, it's very moving (example of the former, panels where Shang Chi's head appears to have been blu-tacked to his chest, the latter, oh, um, some of the faces and fights later on) and enjoying the story, two or three issues of which I read back in the day

yours nostalgically

trying too hard to be cool is a fair thing to say about it, but Red Razors was bags of fun, so I forgive it that.

having just finished relistening to the 2000ad audio dramas on my steam powered ipod thing, I'm in the 'this is a good thing if true' camp.  They're all more fun than I remember and some are brilliant.  Mind you, I can't get excited about Slaine audio dramas.

Off Topic / Re: Birthday

increasingly belated happy birthday.  If I'd taken the precaution of fathering a child on my 30th birthday, he or she would be 17 by now.
anyway, hope you had a blast.

cheers

General / Re: Twitter-pated ?!

Blue Meanie, the silliness of journalistic twitter-related news gets on my wick too, in a small way. It will die down and be replaced by something else annoying in due course, I assume.

Hi Ho Marbles and hello PJ, via whose Twitterings I found this thread!
I quite like Twitter myself, although I think it's over rated as The Next Big Thing.  Like someone else said here, I just follow the people I enjoy following and unfollow the ones I don't.  It's lead to loads of amusing links to check out.  My biggest Twitter thrill so far has been getting a happy birthday from a Scott Thornbury (whose name means nothing here, but is a legend in ESL teaching).

Announcements / Re: Judge Dredd Movie is Green Lit!
08 June, 2009, 07:56:16 PM
very late to this thread, but....
it's good news. I have no idea what the best story would be, but Dredd is a great character and there's a lot of good stuff to choose from. My wish list is pretty negative, ie:
- hope it's not as bad as most of the other movie
- hope they don't get a successful Dredd story and film it with mindless accuracy. I'm thinking here of The Russian in The Punisher movie - in the comic he was great fun, in the movie, looking as much like the comic as possible, he was just silly...it was like having a blue-haired movie Superman.
- hope it's better than T4 (sorry, Terminator Salvation), which I saw today and which was, all up pretty ordinary

yours up early in the morning with possible swine flu, or at any rate, flu which isn't doing much for my mood

Why thank you one and all. We no longer have miles here, but I can run 7.5 futuristic kilos in about an hour which suits me fine.  So far the haul is:
- a new rucksack
- a $100 note
- a Bill Bryson book
- a detective story
- a pen holder
....and a slap-up feed at a Tibetan restaurant with my nearest and dearest.  All's in order.  No bits have fallen off yet, but when I run, I'm very aware that they're kicking on

yours chirpily

I'd pronounce it 'kierohthon', but probably get it wrong, the way I did 'Penelope' (which I pronounced 'Penny - lope' until I started watching Wacky Races) and 'Yosemite' (which I pronounced to rhyme with 'Vegemite' until I can't remember when).  I suppose whichever pronunciation sounds more eternal and evil would be best. Are these creatures pedantic about that kind of thing?
