People didn't see the film because they didn't know it was on. It's a marketing issue. People who have seen it like it.
I didn't see it and I knew it was on. Being a member of this board, I am obviously a fan of Dredd but I have yet to see the 2012 film because I just don't like the 'look' of it. I understand it to be very good from everyone's opinion but it just doesn't interest me. There must be many other people less aware of Dredd than myself who would similaraly glance at it and think it is not for them.

Im sorry but that's just plain weird

You're a Dredd/2000ad fan who has never seen the 2012 film because it doesn't interest you?!

Absolutely bizarre

Good to see the bickering is beginning to slowly bubble up. My only question is whats taking so long, its all still quite civil...

First I hope they made this, then I hope it gets picked up (not sure which way round this goes actually), then I hope I get to see it, then I hope I like it in whatever form it takes.

Most importantly I hope they sell more comics and books off the back of it.

Amazing, grin-inducing news - very much looking forward to seeing where this goes from here!

As for the pros, cons, practicalities and restrictions versus realism of the various iterations of the Judge uniforms, the only way to be sure is to arrange for an all-in bundle at a convention somewhere, with a Stallone vs. 2012 vs. Planet Replica cosplayer Battle Royale.  Actually I'd probably pay good money to see that.

I know plenty of people who did know it was on and did want to see it, but didn't because there was a woeful lack of 2d showings to view.  Even in a city whose metropolitan area contains a quarter of the population of the country, I could only find one cinema which showed it in 2d (which I visited, twice, along with watching it at a few city centre cinemas).

Brazil is one of those films that I've watched and wondered what I had missed that everyone else saw that often earns it the "best film ever made" comments......so I rewatch thinking it'll suddenly click with me. Still not taken to it at this point.

Oh, i also really don't like Taxi driver. Something I am also assured is "the best film ever!".

Anyway, Dredd TV series, awesome!!! 😊

Maybe you just don't like Robert de Niro?

Not a huge fan of the 2012 film here either, though it has grown on me over subsequent viewings. I'm sure a compromise between the 2012 uniform and something a bit more like the comics could be found easily enough. It has to look practical, no question- but it doesn't have to BE practical. After all, no one troubles to break their piss laughing at the berk in the rubber bat suit, despite the fact that he can obviously barely move. It LOOKS like scary armour, and our suspension of disbelief does the rest.

Personally, I hope we get what is effectively Mega City NCIS, with an ensemble cast, futuristic crimes, and with Dredd in the Gibbs role- always there, but not necessarily the focus.

No, it's not that. I love De Niro in Casino, Goodfellas, Godfather 2, Heat etc ......though I prefer Al Pacino.

I watched it Brazil quite recently and I would also say that it looks really cheap and has dated horribly in comparison to some similarly aged films. Blade Runner and Alien however both still look incredible.

I think that is exactly what 2012 Dredd did though. I don't think the actors found the outfits at all practical to work in, but they did LOOK practical.

I suspect that's more budget constraints (or just... Ridley Scott).

Brazil was more expensive than Alien, though allegedly cheaper than Blade Runner. Dredd was a relatively low budget production (by Hollywood sci fi film standards), but certainly doesn't look cheap.

Brazil is a more complex film logistically with more locations/scenes/action than either Alien or Blade Runner. It's also a different style - as in Gilliam has a certain frenetic and anarchic attitude to FX that works better when looking a bit more traditional. He's the opposite of the realism of Ridley Scott.

SIP

Perhaps on reflection I should not have compared it to those other films. I should just have made the comment that it has dated horribly.

It would be fair to say that I'm not really a Gilliam as director fan full stop.

SuperSurfer

Part of the excitement for me is waiting to see what the look of the show is, Judge attire included. Too boring to keep to the same 2012 look. Not criticising the 2012 uniform. It was an excellent interpretation. But it was very much super bike cop. On duty in a sector house I wonder if they need full bike gear. Minus the armour that just leaves leathers. Also, the 2012 uniform is seared into my memory as being worn by rather, er... rotund middle aged blokes at conventions. Time for a new look.

As for who will play Dredd, they already have Karl Urban's inside leg measurement so they might as well go with him and get on with making the uniform.

JOE SOAP

If you're looking for the harder looking, designer sci-fi of Ridley Scott then you might think it's dated but while Brazil has its flaws, it's still more inventive than just about any Ridley Scott film - and that aspect hasn't really dated.

JOE SOAP

I don't care what the Judges uniform looks like as long as it works.
