What is the actual date that Prog 1 first appeared on newsagents' shelves?

I'm confused. I always thought that 2000AD first appeared in newsagents on Sat 26 Feb 1977 which is the cover date. But the 2000AD tweet droid has written that the cover date is the "expiry" date of the comic telling newsagents when to take the comic off the shelves. So does that mean the first day 2000AD appeared was Sat 19 Feb 1977?
Of course, UK comics are dated for when they go OFF sale, so today is 35 years since Prog 2 went on sale - it's Judge Dredd's birthday too!!

My understanding is that you've answered your own question. No expert but certainly I think its that way around.

Yes it is complicated in that way...

But today was selected by Rebellion as the OFFICIAL birthday.  So there it is.

However the celebrations have been a week long & Judge Dredd celebrations will also last a week I understand.

Ah Prog 2, thats were i came in. Happy 35th birthday Prog 2.

I remember putting the bionic stickers on my arm and then fighting not have them taken off that night when I had my bath. I think they stayed on for 3 days in total.
