Warner Bros has reportedly optioned a script for a live action version of the 1980s television animated series, Thundercats.
Paul Sopocy has written the script, with Paula Weinstein producing through Spring Creek Productions, along with Dick Robertson and Lew Korman.
The original series, based on characters created by Ted Wolf, followed a group of humanoid cats with names like Lion-O and Cheetara, who must flee their planet of Thundera after it was destroyed. Landing on Third Earth, they constantly battle against the evil Mumm-Ra.
It originally aired from 1985 to 1990 in the US, and was frequently repeated. Comic book versions were also produced by Marvel Comics, with an 'adult' version created by DC Comics' Wildstorm in 2003. Warner Bros has owned the rights to the animated series since acquiring Telepictures Corporation in 1989.

Bang will go another cherished childhood cartoon.
i'm sure it'll be a special fx extravaganza and mumm-ra will look wicked cool and all, but you have to ask yourself...
...how arethey going to do lion-o's hair...
M.A.S.K. can't be far behind, sadly.
The question is how will they do Schnarf? Surely the Jar Jar of his day?
PFFT..why bother, the best of the 80's is coming in the form of Big Stompy Robots start of next month.
Never did like Thundercats.

I loved Thundercats but can't see how they could ever make it work live action. Plus, no woman is worthy of the role of Cheetara.
I hope they don't ruin it.
Imagining some male actor with a thick head bright red hair isn't so hard.
Who else would you cast other than Hugh Jackman as Lion-O.
Perhaps Michael Clark Duncan as Panthro.
Link: Tyler Mane can be recast as Tygra
***I hope they don't ruin it. ***
It can't ruined anymore than the original cration.
Cheetara....hmmm.
Blonde, fast runner and looks good in spots.
I would pick Michelle Pfeiffer.
As for the Twins. I'm really not so sure.
Jaga the wise . Sean Connery.
Mumra. Just think back to the two 'Mummy' films ( Three counting 'The Scorpian King.) made several years ago.
They are not cat like enough in my opinion.
I think only real cats would be more cat like.
They should hire Andrew Loyd Webber as a Consultant.
Thats not necessarily true. Some people are quite cat like. You just have to find them.
I have to go out now so we cant chat anymore And that boarder with the 2000ad logo as an icon is starting to annoy me now.
That woman out of Grey's Anatomy looks like a cat, a smug one at that.
Yeah, but her and her hospital friends have made me cry on so many occasions that I don't think she should be allowed to work anymore. Seriously I used to be all macho before I discovered Grey's Anatomy, now I'm a big jessie handbag.
My wife concludes each episode with tears streaming down her face nodding her head whispering yep under breath as if some universal truth has just been revealed.
Back on topic, kinda,my wife used to play Thundercats at school. She was Cheetara and made her friend be Mumra.
Is there a scenario now where you get to play Lion-O?
I'm afraid I'm very much the annoying sidekick.
Talking of annoying sidekicks, it always bugged me that they'd even brought Snarf with them to Third Earth - he (and presumably the whole race) are clearly the most annoying beings in the whole of the cosmos - so why not take the oppurtunity of the end of your world to rid yourself of the critters once and for all? Countless thousands of species must have perished in the cataclysm that the Thundercats fled from, and out of all of those, they went and saved a Snarf. Yeah, good choice there guys.
Maybe he's very tasty, and they haven't run short of food yet?

The perfect duo to play Mumm-Ra in decrepit/super guises would have been Wilfred Bramble and Harry H Corbett respectively.
Oh and Snarf was so bad when you compare him to a Ro-Bear-Burble or however the fuck you spell it.
Mmm... Berbil Fruit...
How about 'ThunderCATS' the musical.
