Megazine / Meg 224 / 225 Bite Fight
21 October, 2004, 01:24:47 AM
Radblast it!  Three damn days 'til I get my copy of Meg 224 and I just HAD to look at the cover of Meg 225 on the site, the banner of which spoils the surprise of Bite Fight.

General / Judgement Day image help
06 October, 2004, 09:30:42 PM
I reread Judgement Day last night, looking for a good panel or two to use in illustrating the forthcoming DC/Rebellion GN's page on my site.  I failed absolutely.  Not only is the story even worse than I recalled, the only really solid, selling-point visual in the whole thing seems to be the last page!  (All that horrible art in the Megazine episodes does not help.)

The best I can come up with for my needs are the last two panels of episode 4, where Dredd is saying they're going to have to napalm the Cursed Earth and is told "The whole damn planet's covered in zombies," but I don't like the way Ezquerra did the last panel as just a reaction shot of Joe's emotionless face.

Could anyone else give me a suggestion of something which might work better?

General / Devlin delay!
05 October, 2004, 07:44:31 PM
According to the DC site, the Swimming in Blood collection has been pushed back two weeks, to October 20.  Boo!  I was looking forward to picking that up tomorrow.

Hi everyone

Diamond fell down on the job again and my local didn't receive progs 1399-1400.  They did get several copies of the "DC / 2000 AD Preview," which some of you might enjoy.  Can anybody help me out?  I can also throw in some local small press stuff to sweeten the deal.

I'm also missing progs 1208 and 1216 if anyone has any spares.

Off Topic / Axel Pressbutton origins?
08 September, 2004, 12:31:29 AM
Whenever I run across an issue of Warrior in a comic shop, I tend to grab it.  Well, I finally got a decent enough run of issues (#3-7) to read a stretch, and apart from learning that Marvelman really does deserve its reputation, I also learned that Axel Pressbutton previously appeared in... Sounds?  The music paper competitor of Melody Maker and NME from the late 70s/early 80s?

Has anyone ever seen those episodes?  What was the format and were they much good?

General / DC Books update on Touched by the Hand of Tharg
02 September, 2004, 12:40:46 AM
Just wanted to note that I'm adding a page on my 2000 AD site for each of the DC / Rebellion books as they're released.  I had to cheat on the first one as I don't have a nice copy of the new cover, but you can see what I'm up to by clicking the linky...

I'm also advertising each book as it's released with a link from my blog to the relevant page.  I have about 80 regular readers; who knows, one or two of 'em might buy something...

General / Those Judge Dredd "Mega-Heroes" packs
24 August, 2004, 01:08:38 AM
I've seen these things on eBay from time to time and it suddenly struck me that, if WizKids isn't going to pull their thumb out and give us some more 2000 AD Heroclix any time soon, these would do very nicely for new mods if they're the right size.  There's a Fink and a Mean Angel and a Hammerstein and, err, a Fergie, among others.

But only having seen pictures, I'm not sure about the size.  Does anyone have these?  Are they the right size for a Heroclix dial?

Help! / Batman / Dredd Files cover
23 August, 2004, 11:49:44 PM
Does anyone have a decent copy of the cover of the Batman/Dredd book which is out next Wednesday?  I need the image for my web page.  Thanks!

General / Exciting Mean Arena news inside, chums!
18 May, 2004, 09:43:10 PM
Okay, not even remotely exciting, but rather extremely geeky.  But overdue!  I finally got enough back progs from the period of progs 218-282 to break down each of the many story arc (matches) within them, by artist and by opponent.  That not only makes it much easier to index (instead of a single 56-episode story in five chunks) but also to track down certain artists (Steve Dillon fans need only bother with the earlier issues).

Anyway, I'm glad it's done now, if only for my own bookkeeping.

General / Free Comic Book Day?
19 March, 2004, 09:00:44 PM
I didn't see any 2000 AD-related stuff listed among the offerings for this summer's Free Comic Book Day.  I remember last year some droids suggesting there might be some promotional material planned... what happened?

Off Topic / Read free GMS Legion comics!
02 March, 2004, 10:47:42 PM
Some of the older online fans might recall that I've been doing my own small press comics for some years.  My principal inspirations for my book, The GMS Legion, have been Robo-Hunter and Ace Trucking Company, and I've tried to create a series which walks the same line between telling a dramatic story with a comedic touch and an anarchic universe.  I've released more than 130 episodes since 1997.

Since late January, I've been premiering an episode a week on my website for readers to enjoy for free.  Currently there are 8 episodes available, with another 5 to come between now and April 5.  I'd like to invite everyone to stop by and spend a little time reading when they get a chance.

General / Question for American comic shop readers
17 February, 2004, 10:36:11 PM
Has anyone in the USA received Prog 2004 at their comic shop?  I'm making my "every three week" trip up to Athens this weekend, but I haven't seen Prog 2004 on the Diamond ship list and am getting a little concerned.

General / Well, here's an odd prog...
28 January, 2004, 10:05:00 PM
Finishing up the cross-checking for the long-delayed 8th part of the Touched by the Hand of Tharg index, I double-checked the date and credits for prog 622's Zippy Couriers story and noted an unusual fact...

Prog 622 contains a Judge Dredd story and an Anderson: Psi Division story.  Everything else in the prog was written by Hilary Robinson.  That's Medivac 318, which I quite liked despite a desperate need for some "rocket fuel," Zippy Couriers, which is boring but inoffensive, and a truly wretched Future Shock which Ron Smith drew in an afternoon.

In a way, it's a throwback to progs from the mid-1980s which were almost entirely written by Wagner & Grant.  But on the other hand, it isn't, because it's... well, it's Hilary Robinson.  Still, three strips out of five?  Was she dating Tharg?

General / 2000 AD Heroclix fantasy expansion
08 January, 2004, 09:12:12 PM
At last the solution to all the "ninja chicks with five clicks" problem is here: I've completed my dull-job-driven 2000 AD fantasy expansion for Heroclix.  116 pieces ranging from Alabammy muties to Nort troopers to Indigo Prime operatives.

Wouldn't it be nice if Rebellion and WizKids could get together and make a set this nifty a reality?

Heroclix Thrillpower: Because everyone wants to see Lobster Random knock Inspector Raam through a brick wall.

Suggestions / Designing new Heroclix
07 November, 2003, 09:24:22 PM
I've been having a lot of fun at hcrealms.com designing proposed dials for some 2000 AD Heroclix which I think they should make.  I've coined my 2000 AD-only expansion "Thrillpower" and I've added a daily proposal for eleven of the thirty-eight characters in the expansion, including a mix of generic types (similar to the "Brit-City Judge" we already have), big guns like Rogue Trooper, Max Winwood and Ishmael Cord, supporting characters and enemies like Psi-Judge Janus, Chopper and Fink Angel, two ABC Warriors (out of an eventual six), and, in proud WizKids tradition, I'm including one or two "they made a Heroclix out of HIM?!" figs, like, er, Inspector Raam.

Anyway, if you'd like to see them, visit this forum and dig around.  (You'll also see a couple of "Character creation" threads for Hammerstein and Joe Pineapples that got some negative criticism before I really knew what I was doing...)

http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=47

Now, if we could only get WizKids to actually make the darn things... and I'd still love to know what Rebellion has heard about a possible Indy expansion!  CrossGen has been hinting that Sophie and Simon Archard will be in a new set.  What have you guys heard?

General / Finally got some UK Clix coming...
05 November, 2003, 12:57:22 AM
I finally won a decent auction from a US dealer who imported cases of the UK-only Heroclix.  Now I can have Johnny and Wulf teamed up against two of the Stix brothers.

I just need a few more expansions, with Middenface, the Gronk, the Torso, Evans the Fist and the like and I can replay "Outlaw!," my favorite Strontium Dog story.

Incidentally, if any European players want some of the US-exclusive figures (Arwyn, Darkness, Natalia, Maj. Maxim, etc), drop me a line.  I have some spares and wouldn't mind some Dark Judges.

And if Tharg or any of his good droids are reading, have y'all heard any good words about WizKids doing a second edition with some more 2000 AD characters?

Help! / Judge Dekker
28 October, 2003, 07:49:53 PM
Remember Judge Dekker, Dredd's best rookie, "bar none," who died during Judgement Day?

What was her first name?  I'm designing some "if only they'd make these" Heroclix over at hcrealms.com and want to design Dekker's dial, but I need her first name for the LE version.

Thanks,
Grant

General / I got Alpha, Hershey & Death!
29 September, 2003, 10:28:24 PM
I don't know why the only 2000 AD merchandise anyone is obsessing over is this silly ole video game.  Heroclix is due out on October 1 !!

A shop in Doraville GA was pre-selling the Indy Heroclix expansion this weekend.  I bought five boxes and got a blue Judge Hershey, yellow and red Johnny Alpha and a Unique Judge Death.  I also got a pile of boring Kabuki characters with white faces and edged weapons, but the thrillpower's the important stuff.  Judge Death is fantastic: his dial is set up so that he can come back to life!

I'd still like to know whether there is any truth to the rumor that the UK is getting 24 extra 2000 AD Heroclix characters at the insistence of Rebellion.  Some Heroclix players have been defending WizKids by claiming that Rebellion would only license 2000 AD characters if most of them were released exclusively in England.  Can anyone comment?  (And I still think there should be an offer for an exclusive Clik in the pages of the Megazine...!)

If only I had a babysitter tonight, I'd go use my 2000 AD Clix in a local tourney this evening... *pout*

General / Hitmen, Hewligan and Horrors...?
25 September, 2003, 04:51:00 PM
I haven't seen any discussion of the Button Man, Hewligan and Necronauts collections which were due on August 28.  Were they delayed, or were they boring, or was I just not paying attention?
