Film Discussion / Re: Dredd Movie Surfaces!!!

Oh come on,- I thought this was fantastic!

Yes, it makes everything I've seen from the as-yet-unreleased Minty, look like Oscar-winning material in comparison; but it's a zero-budget, labour-of-love, made by some kids with a camcorder in 1992! ( what did you do with your time that summer?), and at least they finished it!(dig, dig Minty crew)

I say 10 out of 10 for effort. I'm sure a lot of work (if not money or acting skill) went into it, and, as a story, you cant say it isn't pretty faithful to the spirit of the strip. I say 'well done' because at the end of the day, as  wonderfully absurd as it the whole thing looks,( and what ever else you can say about the 'acting' and 'cinematography' ) somebody who loves the comic clearly enjoyed themselves with this -and if nothing else, that prosthetic chin demonstrates a special level of commitment to the source material.

cheers,
wouldn't it be nice if the only thing they retained from the old film was the tattoo design? Then I would be aligned to the new film which looks as if it might be... well shitloads better?
hope,
half-hope,
reality dawns.

oh well...

Finally got round to doing this. This is the tattoo almost 16 years after I got it done.

It matches the badge design ( in Michealvk's avatar ) to a tee.

I forgot about this post; a photo yes, must be one somewhere.
Tattoo is now 16 years old and looking more and more like it was drawn with blue crayon, so maybe an old photo. Mr Soap is quite correct in pointing out that it does kinda align one to a shit-storm of a film, but I didn't mind because I liked it as a design.

I have yet to see a 3d film myself, but Walter Murch doesn't seem to have much faith in the future of the format:

Film Discussion / Re: FIRST LAWMASTER PIC FROM DREDD!

Indigo, I just thought I'd moan about a literal translation of 'America' not being the 'right' story. 'America' is great. It's the Meg we grew up with, and it's a story with consistancy and maturity and real characters and real goals and all in line with the spirit of Dredd and the Mega City that developed over all those years, but the twist of the story is very heavily reliant on the medium. Because we 'read' the sound we have no idea, until the end, that we've been listening to the ladies voice all along... that's what makes it so cool, the story takes advantage of the fact that we're NOT watching a movie...

Oh, and I bet that crappy scooter with the fat bloke on it will probably have us all salivating when we see it as intended.

okay, I'll take that as a 'no'. ;)

anyone feel like perusing an old comic I made with some friends while they're waiting for the Anderson pic?

Film Discussion / Re: EXCLUSIVE - FIRST STILL FROM DREDD!

Hmmmmmmmmn, I think I may have found a cure for my soul-sucking curiosity for every last tid-bit.

The film's a year away..I've already read the script,(I thought it was fantastic BTW) but if i continue.... if I keep hoovering up the interweb searching for info , I might run the risk of watching the final thing through a professionals level of background information. To risk doing so, seems er... folly.

Nope, that's it; I'm off!- I shall leave you to it Forum denizens, thank you all!
And thank you once again Mr Van Kesteren for your time and information.

I suppose it's easy for me to say.. I've seen everything already..
You still haven't seen the film though...boom,boom!

seriously though folks:
Do you think that somebody who is closely involved in a project ever gets to 'see' the film in the way an ordinary joe does; or do you think that they have difficulty buying into the'magic' of sets and props and actors once they have experience of them in the more mundane setting of their workplace?
