While we're talking about Star Wars, watch the last shot of Return of the Jedi - Billy Dee Williams' clapping is hysterical.  Well out of time, not just with everyone else, but even with himself.  Once you notice it, you can't help but laugh every time you see it.

Another 'Return of the Jedi' thing I'd never seen until it was pointed out to me is that bit in Jabba's palace after Chewbacca has been taken away. Leia (as the bounty hunter) is standing next to C3P0, Bib Fortuna comes over and says "He's gay", Leia turns to Boba Fett who nods in agreement.

This is really rather good. Live action and fx stuff.

Invasion of alien robots. Mayhem ensues. Usual script. But the visuals are great. Just under five minutes worth of stomping and carnage.

COMMANDO FORCES

Thanks for that uncle fester, very enjoyable and I loved all the explosions ;D

That's well cool Fest. The flying vehicles reminded me quite a bit of old school H wagons.

Holy crap, that 'Panic Attack' video is brilliant. The Metro claimed it was done on a budget of £180, which is always dubious, but it's incredibly impressive for any low budget production - It even manages to sneak in a homage to Battleship Potemkin amid the giant robots and exploding buildings!

uncle fester

In the comments underneath a figure of £300 is mentioned a couple of times. Whichever, it sounds like it was done to show you don't need to spend a ton of cash to make it look pretty. Which can only send my mind spiralling in Twooth related directions and "wouldn't it be cool if....?"

JOE SOAP

It may have cost £300 to shoot but the amount of man hours spent drawing and rendering all the elements by someone in their spare time is probably not factored in real world terms. If you were to hire pros to do something like this you'd be paying their wages etc. which would increase the cost considerably.

Films are not made in someone's spare time.

uncle fester

While that last bit's not strictly true, I do concede that the £300 was probably the costs they couldn't avoid encountering. Still, not bad for a labout of love then, eh?

JOE SOAP

The same kind of rhetoric has been spewed about the film "Paranormal Activity" which is claimed to have been made for $11,000 which is a complete lie since they haven't included the reshoots that the studio paid for to get the film to a competent stage and the marketing etc. The same applies to Rodriguez "El Mariachi".

planetmirth

Yes, I agree that the TRUE cost would be much higher, especially if someone where to start from scratch, the software and electricity used alone would be several times that.

I also presume they'd also want to keep all the working files and therefore will need to buy a new harddrive if they want to make any similar projects in the future etc, etc.

But it's great to see that, 'amateurs' can produce quality images.

I believe films can be made in someone's spare time... it's the whole point of the company I'm in the process of forming: http://planetmirth.weebly.com/want-a-job-in-tv.html (shameless plug).

Especially when it comes to TV shows, professionals often work to crazy deadlines and frequently have to accepts cuts in quality to get the job done in time. Amateurs can afford to take their time, so in theory, a group of talented amateurs could easily produce a show that was equal to, if not better than, a professional one.  ;D
