Why hasn't there been another one?

See Ian Edgington, above.
Tharg should put a 'No new stuff til you finish the older stuff' clause on him!

Its probably not 100% him, I suspect artist availability plays a large role.

I also thing it is more to do with Ian Edginton that gets bored with doing the same character. In the podcast he actually said it is better to create something new and fail then continuing with a character that treading water.

Honestly, that's why I think Edginton. He just writes so many fun ideas. His works have always been a staple of my reading since I started in 2004.

In that time he's written...

Red Seas
Leviathan
American Gothic
Detonator X
Stone Island
Stickleback
Ampney Crucis Investigates
Brass Sun
Helium
Kingmaker
Scarlet Traces

He's like Dan Abnett, he just... has a lot of stories and concepts in him. A surplus even. And I get excited when I see any of these strips return or a new one come down the pipe.

Suggestions / Re: Boo Cook on Tyranny Rex
24 October, 2020, 07:05:23 AM
I remember when Smith started putting out the first few chapters of A Dying Art, I asked him on Facebook if we might ever see Tyranny Rex again, maybe have her join Indigo Prime. And he said, something along the lines that she had appeared on the first page of the new series. And the only character on that page was that cat lady. Which got me really thinking about what he could have possibly meant. But then after just 2 chapters he was off the series and replaced by Kek-W and nothing came of it. But I still wonder if Tyranny was one story away from her big Indigo Prime return.

I can't believe Helium ran five years ago. I really can't believe the last Ampney was seven going on eight. Dang.

EDIT: I think Ampney visited the world of Helium in the 2nd to last story, The English Assassin, NINE years ago.

Barney only lists one but I swear there was a second book of Helium in the Prog not that long after book 1 aired. Am I making this up??

You're probably thinking about the AMPNEY CRUCIS INVESTIGATES story that partly took place in a world either very similar, or literally the same one (this is Edginton after all) as Helium. It came out very close together I think.

Some of the lettering in the Brink CBZ is nearly unreadable, very aliased. That's on a 12.9 iPad.

Could you possibly post examples, Robes? Or email them to press@2000AD.com - thanks!

Okay, so here is a side by side comparison of the first page of Brink.
The first image is the Humble Bundle CBZ file.
The second image is the Humble Bundle PDF File.
And the 3rd image is the CBZ of Prog 1978 from the 2000 AD eShop I bought 3 years ago.

I don't have the eShop version of the Brink collection, but I can not imagine its significantly different from the Prog version.

This image is full resolution, uncompressed. Hosted off site on ImageShack because its a PNG file 15 megabyte size. Linked so it doesn't stretch the Forum boundaries to hell. I hope this helps illustrate the problem.

Guess I should prioritize getting PREDATOR VS JUDGE DREDD VS ALIENS collection before someone realizes 2000 AD is still selling it.

Bad digital quality seems to plague Humble Bundles. They did some manga bundles from Kodansha that were absolutely atrocious in both resolution and file size. Fortunately while the CBZs were messed up, the ePub filed were fine and could de salvaged with some unzipping and rezipping. Sadly, no such luck with the problem 2000 AD offerings.

I've never seen this problem with Image or IDW bundles. Though there was a Dynamite one with some issues. I honestly have no idea who's responsible for these quality control issues. And why they sometimes don't seem to care.  Especially when we digital readers KNOW these files look fine elsewhere.

At a point in the Hellboy story (it will be obvious when) BPRD spins out as it's own series. So no, Hellboy and BPRD collection contents are not the same.

Prog / Re: Prog 2162 : The gift of Thrill Power!

Finally caught up with all my 2019 2000 AD reading (I was 2 months behind, whoops). I'll be completly honestly, 2019 wasn't my favorite year for 2000 AD, it had some good stuff. But a lot of felt... overly familiar and the stuff that excited me was kinda spread out throughout the year.

But Prog 2062 has recharged me quite a bit. Feral and Foe and Proteus Vex are the real stand out winners for me, in a way they both complement each other. Zaucer of Zilk is a welcome return, if not my favorite (has it really been 8 years since the first one?!) Brink continuing is always welcome. Graduation Day + the ad for more Caballistics Inc. universe stuff (with Reardon! Woo!) was a wonderful surprise (feel sorry for those trade buyers though). Deadworld was excellent as always, though I enjoy the strip immensely I feel its starting to drag itself out (which might be a problem for a series with an inevitable conclusion). Dredd and Durham were decent but uninspiring though. But if a big 100 pager only has two stripes I consider dogs, that's still pretty good.

The new year line-up of Judge Dredd/Proteus Vex/Zaucer of Zilk/Feral and Foe/Brink is really as solid as it gets for current 2000 AD. Like I said, excited for the Prog again.

USAGI YOJIMBO (2019) 1-5
How is that? I will admit to being more than a little disappointed that the strip will now be in colour. And I hope more than anything that IDW don't fuck things up. (Dark Horse was a pretty stable home, although the manner in which it dealt with hardcovers was abysmal, as ever.)

I also am disappointed that it has gone color (some comics just feel more natural in black and white). But, the coloring is pretty good (for IDW, I have long criticized some of their house coloring choices on other titles). But and ultimately it's Stan Sakai making Usagi Yojimbo. So it's still one of the best comics on the planet.

Have you read the previous Copra series? Because if not, you really really should. Especially if you're finding jumping straight in engrossing enough to stick with it.
