Good afternoon

Been a while since I've posted so I thought I would come back with a doozy!

I am running the London Marathon and am fundraising for the charity MACS who support children born without or with underdeveloped eyes and their families.

With that in mind and inspired by Eamonn Clarke I am doing a charity raffle.

Tickets are £2 each, if you pay £10 you get five tickets.

The draw will be held after the closing date of Sunday 15 April. The draw will be videoed and uploaded to youtube.

The prizes:
First prize - 3A Judge Dredd and Lawmaster Brand new. Still sealed in it's cellophane wrappings.
Second Prize - 3A Judge Death Not in cellophane but still sealed on backing card
Third Prize - IDW No. 25 Sketch Cover This is an interesting one because everybody loves IDW Dredd but I am going to Lawgiver this year in May and I will get you a Dredd sketch on the cover from one of the artists in attendance!

To get your virtual ticket please go to my fundraising page:
https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/marathonmatthew

Please add 'Dredd Raffle' in the comments and a name for the tickets and tick the box that lets me email you so I can contact the winners!

Any questions please ask.

Events / Jon Davis Hunt visiting Melksham Library
24 November, 2009, 10:08:05 PM
What do you mean you've never heard of Melksham? It's a lovely place. It has Poundland, Chick O' Land, Chicken Shack, you get the idea.

Anyhoo, "Rising star of the comic world Jon Davis-Hunt will be in Melksham Library from 6 pm on Thursday 3 December to talk about his work and demonstrate his drawing techniques."

Links / Online Comic 'Library'

http://www.htmlcomics.com/

Found this site at lunchtime yesterday and while it is great to be able to read comics at work as most comic sites are blocked ('gaming' is the usual excuse but some sites are 'pornography'!), I'm really not sure of the legalese with regard to it being a 'library' to get around the copyright issues.

Prog / Prog 1635 - The Axeman Returns

Just had a quick glance before the train to Bristol arrived. Slaine is back and the art really looks aces.

Surprised to find this in my local thrill merchants over the weekend.

Cliff Robinson cover, always great to see a classic Lawmaster image and this doesn't disappoint. Psycho Block starts in Dredd with a strong opening episode with great art by Colin Wilson which is backed up with a nice interview with the man himself. Tales of The Black Museum by Tony Lee & Vince Locke which I thought was good. Didn't spot the end coming.

Text bits. Will read later in the week. Review of the new LOEG. More movie reviews which seems to be concentrating on less mainstream movies which is a good thing. You should be reading Dashiell Hammett.

Insurrection and Tank Girl both end this meg so I've left them 'til last. Insurrection has been great and ends well but not going to say more than that as I don't want to give anything away.

Tank Girl. I know this hasn't been to everybody's taste but I think it's been great with fatnastic art by Rufus, and any appearance by a penguin is always welcome. Sheer. Bloody. Genius. Thank you, Team Tank.

Film & TV / Del Toro's future plans
07 September, 2008, 04:03:36 PM
'Mexican filmmaker Guillermo del Toro has signed a four-picture deal with film studio Universal that will keep him occupied for the next decade.

The Hellboy director will remake Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Frankenstein and Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five.'

Film & TV / Parasite
04 September, 2008, 01:55:30 AM
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0352699/

I was channel hopping yesterday evening when I flicked over to the wonderful channel that is Zone Horror. On the screen was a guy in a Rogue Trooper beanie hat so I ended up watching it. I think I remember hearing about Rebellion doing films but don't remember much more discussion of it other than Outlaw, I think, and the possibility of Dredd movies.

Story by Jason Kingsley, produced by Fearnort studios and set on an oil rig named after Johnny Alpha. The references made it fun to watch but it is in the so bad it's good category, just.

Worth watching but don't rush out and buy the dvd.

Megazine / Meg 275 - Skidmarks
16 August, 2008, 08:23:35 AM
Don't want to say too much and spoil it for anyone.

The quality on display in this Meg is fantastic. A really strong line-up of strips with a nice couple of interviews and text pieces. Skidmarks being the high point with Dredd snapping at it's heels. The Jock Collection was always going to be strong starter for the 'graphic novel' addition, which it is, only let down by the quality of the spine! Not really but it's a clever way to get reprint material into the Meg without it actually being there.

I'm still undecided on the price tag. This month it, I would say very much that it's worth it but more than the EE the reprint side of the Meg has to maintain a high quality to keep it strong because of the higher price.

Books & Comics / Kirkman's Invincible
25 July, 2008, 10:38:34 PM
I know there are a few Walking Dead fans on the board but can't remember anyone talking about Invincible. It's really rather good and quite a refreshing take on the genre and it's soon to be a sort of not quite a comic not quite a cartoon series online.

'Airport guards have stopped a man boarding a plane for wearing a Transformers T-shirt showing a cartoon gun.'

With any luck he changed into an 'Eat Plutonium Death' t-shirt.

Great site where you can watch some of the best of the worst films ever made like White Pongo, Night Of The Shrews and Robot Monster which, apparantly, is a gorilla in a diving helmet.
