Have people asked for it not to be used here,  prior to this?  I wasn't aware of that.

I certainly have a sense of deja-vu about reading the above conversation. I may be mistaken or mixing up my forums (fora?), though. If so, my apologies.

For me , the use of "Scotch" above is a light-hearted reference to a well-loved character, and I understand that. I have also had someone use that term towards me in the past in a deliberate attempt to antagonise, offend and belittle. It's not something that comes without baggage.

I don't think I'd argue that using the term is discriminatory or particularly offensive in this context.

Equally, I don't think I'd argue with the idea that repeatedly using it, despite being asked not to, is daft and unnecessary.

Finished reading the master edition of From Hell #1. Basically From Hell, but with added colours by Cambell. Didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. Looked off in previews, but really good on paper. I find it to be a very interesting take on of my absolute favorite stories.

Anyone else who's also read it? Thoughts?

That's out now? I might have to nip down to my local shop and pick up a copy. It looks like an excellent job.

I was in that there London the weekend before last and asked for it in Orbital, and was amused to find that none of the staff knew anything about it.

Crisis strips weren't creator-owned*

Huh. I thought they were. I assume Morrison and Yeowell own The New Adventures of Adolf Hitler, given that it appeared elsewhere first and caused a hue and cry?

meantime: comicsgate?

Briefly, it's lots of American men angry about the fact that many of the best comics these days are created by women or feature characters with a different skin colour from them.

Your life is richer for not knowing about it.

Does Pat Mills own Finn? Given that the character first appeared in Crisis?

That's a great page. I'm a fan of everything Mr Coleby does, but his Jaegir work is absolutely outstanding.

Just yer Eengleesh choms - Scots and Welsh banned eet already, I theenk.

Until they're told to un-ban it, I guess.

The Scottish government hasn't banned it, they've just said that it is under a "moratorium" for review for an unspecified period. I suspect this is a mechanism to avoid them having to deal with a legal challenge.

So there we go, a five for five prog in a run of five for fives. And yet I keep seeing people on Facebook bemoaning the prog not being a patch on "how it used to be". Do they even read it, I wonder?

SBT

So often this type of thing seems to be posted by folks who have Smugly proclaimed a few posts earlier or later how they aren't sucker enough to be getting it and stopped reader when things turned in 1990 or whenever.

While I love the fact that folks get and enjoy different things in the Prog if you aren't enjoying this run maybe Tharg's organ is never going to satisfy you.

This is exactly why I stopped participating in those forums (and listening to certain podcasts). These people have no opinion of any value.

That must be one of the longest gaps between appearances in the prog/specials. Over thirty years?

Something broke inside me when I watched Crystal Skull. I lost faith in humanity and the future. We're all fucked, and that film is the proof.
