Post by: Radbacker on 19 November, 2016, 12:21:29 PM
holy shit I'm an old Metalicca tragic from back in the day but haven't realy had tiime for them since Black Album but god dambn if this new ione isn't a return to form.
I'm a gonna buy it first chance i get monday (I'm old school and need it on CD none of this Itunes crap) It looks like the whole album is on YouTube official with a film clip for each song I gotta say Spit out the Bone is the stand out for me so far Hetfields dropped that crappy country and western twang he was insisting on and this could almost be off Justice.  Hammet is blazing it up and even Lars has a bit of his fire back
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m46Z0-HXySo  cool clip too.

Been a long time since I banged my head to anything this has got me going though gonna have a sore neck tommorow wish i still had my hair :)

Hard wired and Spit Out The Bone are standouts for me, I'd have preferred a couple less filler songs. Still, it's their best in 20 years.

I'm in work doing overtime, listening to podcasts and decided to see what i've got on Spotify - Only bloody got the new Metallica album on it, and i'd no idea it had been released!

Only just onto Now That W're Dead, and have to say, Hardwired, especially the drumming, was enough to hook me in.

Sounds good, and i can't bloody wait to get home and play it through my Sonos.

Yep,  an amazing album.  I've enjoyed all their studio stuff (with the possible exception of St Anger).  The best thing about Hardwired - Jamez voice is in top form, Lars' drum work is exceptional (I don't know how he's going to play 'spit' live) and the production is leaps ahead of Death Magnetic.

IMO, it takes the best from all their eras.  There's bits of Load/Reload in there, as well as nods to RTL, AJFA, etc.

So pleased they're still going strong.

I have Black & Load/Reload. Didn't really care about their noise until I saw  their lyrics used in book I was reading. Haven't bothered with since Load/Reload, cause I think that when they got too popular, & more mainstream which might have meant they'd start to decline musically.

Am I right?

Metallica are one of those bands that have evolved over 35-odd years.  Personally, I love the way they've tried different things.  Even though I'm not a fan of St Anger - I congratulate them for at least trying something different.

I'm also a huge fan of the Rolling Stones - but unlike Metallica - they've played it safe throughout the years.  Which is cool - but predictable.

Initially, I hated metal.  Then I heard 'One' back in the 80's.  That changed everything.

Hope like hell I can get tickets when they hit Oz next year!  Haven't seen them live since 1993.

I have all their (studio) albums and IMO they all have something to commend them and I would recommend them all. (Haven't received the new one yet).

But you do have a point as the best are, in my opinion, Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightening, followed by the Black album (but I guess it was with this they went mega) and And Justice For All. Load and Reload have a different sound but have some great songs on them.

So yeah get them all.

I also recommend S&M. Took me years to "get it" but I really like it now and it has really powerful versions of For Whom the Bell Tolls, Battery, Master of Puppets and One.

Can't get into the Lou Reed collaboration "Lulu" though.

Finally got round to listening to the new album.

First impressions are that discs 1 and 2 are a technically note perfect version of Metallica. But it seems lacking in the raw energy of early Metallica. Metallica played by an older Metallica if you will.

As for disc 3. Well it totally rocks. Here is that raw energy that the other discs seem to lack. Possibly at the expense of a bit of polish. But that's how it works, right?

(I wonder if my opinion will change after a few more listens.)
