Cal's descent into madness

Much as I'd love to see all the greats on screen, this is the one I could live without. It'd have to be adapted to the point of being unrecognisable.
Personally, I'd prefer to see the Sinfield kind of corruption going on.

But that'd mean no Judge Fish  :'(

Hmmmm....food for thought there!

I think I might do a mix of matty and colin's suggestions - read just the Dredds so I catch up to Prog 2000 and can resume my regular reading pattern, and bench the issues with unread content until I feel like going back to them.

Thanks!

QuoteTake them at the best pace that will give you the most enjoyment. I know that's a dull answer, but there's no point slogging through (or blazing through) stuff if you won't have fun reading it.
Yeah, I know what you mean, but reading (if not always joining in) the prog discussions here in the forum is a part of the enjoyment.  It's like Input, but every week and more immediate ;)

If I binge way through, it might be a slog, but at least I'll be up to date and can resume my usual routine.

Doesn't help that I seem to spend more time on the Forum than actually reading the comic.

I am guessing that unlike you Jackstarr I have at least read most of it before.

Heh, I know what you mean about the forum.  I know I don't post much, but I used to be a big-time lurker.

Collected editions are a different ball game than single progs, I think, as there's not the same excitement that comes with keeping up with news on upcoming thrills and online buzz on current issues.  I haven't read most of the bundled reprint supplements that come with the Meg for a couple of years now, and don't think I'll ever do so, as I've read most of them before (sometimes it feels as though it's not been that long since the original printing, but I guess it's been longer than I'd like to admit!)

Speaking of which, I've just seen that the prog and the Meg cross over for a Dredd story - don't get me started on how far behind I am with my Megs!

General / Should I pace myself, or continue to binge?

For pretty much the entire year so far, I've been working what feels like 24/7, with little time for this thing called "reading" (or, indeed, a "life".)

To put it bluntly, I was knackered.

The cure?  3 months' worth of Prog-binging in a couple of days.  Thrill power overload! :D

I've done this before, but I was younger then and able to withstand the hit much easier.

Some of the thrills do read better in one sitting, but.... strangely, I feel even more fatigued now - and feel even less inclined to want to read more  :'(

Looking at the big pile of progs building up on my doormat - the postie keeps delivering my sub - and there are still lots of issues to make my way through.

I used to eagerly await the weekly arrival of the prog, and would enjoy by reading one thrill a night, and then catching up on online discussion of the prog at the weekend.... but I'm worried that I'm never going to catch up at this rate.

Should I just bite the bullet and binge, even if that means fast-forwarding through some of my less-favourite thrills, or should I pace myself and take things slower, even if that means missing out on the online buzz ?

Board, please help!

Last minute one - I just spotted that Tropico 4 Special Edition is now free on Humble Bundle store, at least if you claim & redeem within the next 6 hours! - https://www.humblebundle.com/store/tropico-4-free-game

Hrmmm....as much as I was looking forward to this, the whole "reading backwards" thing has been really offputting.

I'm used to reading foreign languages from right to left, but doing so in English just gives me brain meltdown.  Unfortunately I didn't make it past the first dozen pages.  I just don't have the patience to retrain my brain on this at the moment.

I can see why they do it, but honestly I'd prefer the art to be mirrored and to be able to read left to right.

Thanks for the advice!

I was looking at the website on my pc, but I'll be reading on tablet (other than 2000ad and the meg, which I still have a physical sub for, the rest of my comics reading is on tablet through Comixology).

I'll try downloading the Jump Starter pack, but if that starts in the middle of stories anyway, it might make more sense just to jump in (pun not intended) with the latest issues and pick up where things are currently.

I'll let you know how I get on tonight!

I'm considering trying out an issue of Weekly Shonen Jump...but I've never read a manga comic before (apart from a serialised Akira years ago) and wouldn't know where to start!

Should I just jump in on the latest issue on the website, or it it better to start with one of the back issues?

For those of you worried about the impact of the later time slot:

Quote
One show not to have suffered a ratings hit over the weekend was cult sci-fi series Doctor Who, which was shown an hour later than usual on Saturday to accommodate the start of Strictly.

The usual average of 4.8m viewers tuned in to catch up with the adventures of new Doctor Peter Capaldi.

Quotehaha we actually have zombies and aliens in sims3
So that means they're not in Sims 4?

Or are you just saving them up for the first DLC?  :P

Finally, it's ready to let me play... :D

....and?

Before I realised that the current release was only on a trial basis, I mentioned it to two friends who don't read 2000ad and aren't avid comic collectors, and both said they'd definitely pick up the first couple of releases (one of my friends got suckered into the Marvel collection for a while) - so if that's anything to go by, it seems that there may just be a mainstream audience for this :)

Boo.  I was hoping that the character alluded to was going to be
Frobisher in penguin form.
Oh well, maybe the precedent sets out some hope.

QuoteI'm not trying to be deliberately vituperative, but there's no such thing as Windows 8.1 Update 2. What was believed to be Update 2 actually became the "August 2014 update rollup". Source.
Heh.  The internet lies, who woulda thought?

QuoteEven if we forgive that mix-up, how can it have been installed on a Kindle (even an up-to-date Kindle HDX), and five months ago...?
Ah, you see, Doc's friend has one of those new Kindles - you know, the ones with 16k resolution and a built-in laser gun.  :P

Doc, your own google list shows that 8.2 isn't out yet, and the last link on that page provides the answer to your confusion: you have "Windows 8.1 Update 2", not "Windows 8.2".

Thanks for the clarification - I have no memory of this story whatsoever!
