...Dillon's recent work on Thunderbolts felt like it was from a completely different Steve Dillon, lack of perspective, complete lack of detail, simplistic figures whose faces all look like The Punisher (even Elektra) Liefeld's [slowly] improved over the years where as Dillon's seem to have done the opposite...

Totally agree. And Dillon's STILL the better artist by a rather large lunar mile, which says it all really.

For all those Liefeldians out there, I follow at least 20 people on DA that draw better comics than the guy. When fan artists are turning out better shit than the 'proffesionals' you know something is wrong.

Steve Dillon can draw feet. And most other things very well indeed, Liefield may have a style all his own and he has done very well with it (in that he has made his own comics etc) but I wouldn't have him in quite the same category as Dillon.

I still bought Brigade though. ::)
The Justice department has a good re-education programme-it's called five to ten in the cubes.

This film's going to be comedy gold possibly on par with The Room ("You're tearing Marvel aaappppaaarrrttt!!!").

I hope whoever directs it makes the actors wear lots of pouches and never shows their feet.

Well lets face it he's writing MacFarlane as though he was (wearing pouches etc)

This. The small press is full to the brim of artists with more tenacity and ability than Liefeld's got in his smallest most badly-drawn finger. The fact that he's in any way influential is as funny as it is depressing.

I've said this repeatedly in sundry Liefeld-related debates up and down the internet over the years. Do I know Liefeld? No. Am I making any judgement on his worth as a human being? No. Can I admire his acumen as a businessman whereby he makes a metric fuckton of money with no discernible talent whatsoever? Yes.

It's possible to do all of these things and still lament the message he sent to a generation of comic fans and wannabe artists which was that learning to copy a tiny number of stylistic tics from other, better comic artists was a viable substitute for learning to fucking draw.

At the end of the day, however, people will like what they like (and are perfectly entitled to do so -- I'm not criticising anyone's taste in comics*) and Liefeld's books still shift in quantity, so we get the industry we deserve.

Cheers

Jim

*People who like Liefeld seem to get up in arms when I say that he can't draw. He can't. That's a demonstrable fact. I've never argued against someone's right to like Rob Liefeld books, but I can and will refute suggestions that he's a competent artist.

I can't draw worth a damn and always have that at the back of my mind when it comes to commenting on artists and their work. I always think that no matter how bad the piece in front of me it's 1000 times better than anything I could do. I don't think that with Leifield's work. Even at the age of ten (many years back now)I could see that his stuff was just dreadful. Give all of the men the same facial expression, massive guns and even bigger muscles. the women have to have big tits and porn-star facial expressions. Fuck that.

JamesC

They should make a sequel to Evan/Bruce Almighty where Rob Leifeld gets god-like powers and makes everyone look like his drawings and removes their feet

More to the point, Dillon can actually draw clothes that look like clothes.

Liefeld just draws weird approximations hoodies that you can see the wearer's six-pack through, and spray-on trousers.

The Colouring on this all round turd of a page made my eyes bleed.

The script would work brilliantly if you cast Will Ferrell,  Sacha Barenchoen and Steve Carell and that lot. Comedy gold
