General / The best H-Wagon?
27 March, 2023, 03:20:28 PM
Hi,

So I find myself having to draw H-Wagons in a forthcoming story. I realise that I don't know if there is a standard version of this vehicle. Certainly a casual Googling doesn't give me much of any use. I know that as 2000AD Art Droids we're just supposed to wing it 24/7 and create everything from whole cloth, but I kinda want to honour what has come before. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes , this is unpaid research work , but I can put your names on Judges in return for good image reff .

Much obliged

News / The Great Dante Readthrough Podcast
26 February, 2021, 06:50:38 PM
My wife Edie Nugent and I have been meaning to read through the whole of The Adventures of Nikolai Dante from beginning to end. So we decided not only to do that now, but also record it as a Podcast. Because social isolation for 12 months makes you do ... possibly regrettable things. So if you're interested in me recounting all the nitty-gritty details that I remember poorly from 20 odd years ago, coupled with a progressive American take, then this is the PODCAST FOR YOU!
If you want to read along but don't have all the issues in question, then these nice people will sell you them for a reasonable price
We're releasing it as a special sneak preview exclusively for this message board, with not one ,but TWO episodes of the Podcast online for your amusement. Please bear in mind that we're new at this , so there are likely to be some issues that we haven't ironed out yet. Feedback is welcome. Here or on Twitter @podTGDR .

General / Mega City 1 Judge ID tattoo question
19 November, 2019, 04:26:03 PM
Hey so I need some info. Perhaps there are some Dredd experts out there that could help me.

Do MC1 Judges have ID tattoos? I seem to remember that they do. The only reference I can find after a quick Google is this , http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=prog&page=specials&choice=lotf02    , which isn't exactly canon. So is there an official Justice Dept ID tat? If so what is it and where is it? I'm assuming a shoulder , but I don't know which one.

Thanks for any help. You guys are amazing.

Megazine / Lawgiver question
09 August, 2019, 06:18:48 PM
I'm a little out of touch . It's been a while since I drew a Dredd. About a decade or so by my reckoning.
What's the current Lawgiver model? Photo reff would be appreciated.

Thanks kindly

General / Dare2Draw - I need your help
20 September, 2013, 04:43:57 PM
Hello folks. I'm here today to take advantage of whatever platform I have in these here parts to promote my own personal agenda! Namely this:-

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dare2draw/dare2draw-the-series-tv-pilot

WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? You may ask. Well essentially I want to make a TV show. I have some friends who are pretty smart and dedicated and we think that people will actually sit down and watch young aspiring talented draftsmen and woman drawing competitively, while vain , self-important, industry " veterans" ( probably me ) will make informed comments and offer sage advice. I think it will be a hoot, so we want to make a pilot , then take it around the cable networks and try to get someone to pay to make it. In the mean time we need you to help us to pay to make it. None of us are making a bean on this ( rather the opposite in fact ). Hopefully one day we will, but in the mean time it's just going to be for the hell of it all.
Help out and I'll be super-happy. ( Maybe I'll even spill some beans on this new thing I'm working on with Robbie Morrisson, but I'm not supposed to talk about yet) ..Cough
Thanks

General / Dante help.
29 June, 2012, 02:44:34 PM
Folks/
I'm going through the last few Dante stories looking for art continuity snafus, errors, screw-ups etc ; in preparation for the final trade paperback edition. I think I've nailed all the major ones, but if any of you remember anything particular that stood out please let me know now so I can fix it and then I won't be flicking through the book in 20 years time and finally notice some glaring piece of continuity ineptitude.

If you spot a good one there may be prizes!

Thank you for your attention

Off Topic / The DrawBridge Blog
31 January, 2011, 04:28:53 PM
As some of you are no doubt aware, I'm part of the DrawBridge Blog where each day we nominate a topic and then do a quick ( or not quick ) drawing and post it to the blog. There is a huge amount of material on it already.
Todays topic was 'Tintin' which I have reinterpreted as a 2000AD character.
Apologies to Pat Mills and Hergé.

We like it when people comment, it's encouraging.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Folks/

I've just posted the first chunk of Lilly Mackenzie's next adventure to the ACT-I-VATE.com website where Lilly Mackenzie & the Mines of Charybdis debuted almost 4 years ago.
The new story will be serialised on a weekly basis , every Wednesday, until I've done about 100pages. There are also plans afoot to bring it to print in a Megazine near and dear to us all. I'll keep you posted on that. In the mean time enjoy...

Books & Comics / The ACT-I-VATE PRIMER
30 July, 2009, 06:28:31 AM
As some of you may be aware, when I'm not doing my dayjob of drawing THE ADVENTURES OF NIKOLAI DANTE in 2000AD, I write and draw LILLY MACKENZIE & THE MINES OF CHARYBDIS on ACT-I-VATE.

http://www.act-i-vate.com/9-1.comic

Well if you like that, then you might be interested to know that there's a whole new 12 page Lilly & Cosmo story featuring in THE ACT-I-VATE PRIMER.

As well as 15 other original stories by the premier webcomix collective, ACT-I-VATE, with a foreword by Warren Ellis, coming this October from IDW Publishing.

With its roster of renowned creators serializing webcomix for free since 2006, ACT-I-VATE, has reached a comicbook critical mass. Now this funnybook big bang has birthed The Act-i-vate Primer, the very first collection of stand alone, never-before-seen stories. This tome is a lot bigger than it seems. Each of these stories extend way beyond the boundaries of mere paper and cardboard out into ACT-I-VATE.com where you'll already be initiated to the worlds greatest webcomix collective.

The Act-i-vate Primer boasts original art and stories by Roger Langridge, Mike Dawson, Nick Bertozzi, Tim Hamilton, Dean Haspiel, Simon Fraser, Molly Crabapple & John Leavitt, Mike Cavallaro, Pedro Camargo, Jim Dougan & Hyeondo Park, Ulises Farinas, Michel Fiffe, Maurice Fontenot, Jennifer Hayden, and Leland Purvis.

"ACT-I-VATE makes comics better."
--Warren Ellis [from the ACT-I-VATE PRIMER foreward].

Diamond Item Code: AUG090968
ISBN: 978-1-60010-528-9

It's available for pre-orders from Diamond right now, so ask at your local retailer to be sure of getting a copy in October when the books hits the shelves.

There's going to be a fairly substantial ACT-I-VATE turnout at the Baltimore ComicCon in October to help launch the thing right. If you are likely to be there, then we would be very happy to see you.

End of Hype...

Links / Lilly Mackenzie and the Mines of Charybdis
13 February, 2007, 03:04:52 AM
Hello,

If I may beg your indulgence for a few moments.

I have recently started serialising 'Lilly Mackenzie and the Mines of Charybdis' in the online comics anthology ACT-I-VATE.
Check it out here...
http://community.livejournal.com/act_i_vate/188229.html

The colours are by my old mate Gary Caldwell, so it looks pretty much like our ongoing Dante collaboration.

It will be update every Friday for the next year and a bit...absolutely FREE.

That's it, you can now go back to your regular business.

Thanks

Simon Fraser.

General / Help Needed on Dante Site
12 September, 2005, 10:55:47 PM
Hi All/

I'm looking for a bit of help from the massed ranks of fandom. As some of you may know I have a site

dedicated to Nikolai Dante. You may also know that I've kind of shelved it and it hasn't been updated since

the 20th Century. This has everything to do with me not having a lot of time these days and not being involved

with Dante on a professional level any more. I also don't own a complete set of Dantes' exploits in their

original progs and I've forgotten or lost most of the stuff that Robbie told/sent me. I'm getting fairly regular

queries from people about the site however and I'd like to be able to say that I was dealing with the problem.
So I need a fine stalwart Dante fan to help me out here. I'd like to have a complete 'story so far' to date, which

would involve reading a lot of back issues then writing a story summary, broken down into story arcs etc.

Preferably from the start of the 'Courtship of Jena Makarov' storyline onwards, 'cos I did a rush job on that one

and it could be a lot better. If relevant bits of exciting artwork could be scanned too then that would be a plus.

No webhackery would be required, I can do that bit and full credit would be given plus lots of people would love

you in a quiet, dignified 'Remains of the Day' type way.

Anyone up for it?
You can reply here or through    public@simonfraser.net

Thanks for your attention.
