QuoteWould be fine except for the bad brother being around to throw mess-producing parties for people who in all likelihood avoid him like the fucking plague for the rest of the year.

Oh god, that sounds exactly like my life 20 years ago, having to drink myself insensible so I could sleep through the horror of my brother's 'guests' vomiting and shagging on every available surface, sometimes in that order.

Jaysus TB, I never knew you grew up in an industrial school.

I accidentally set off the intruder alarm going into work this morning and now I keep hearing alarms all the time.

Have you tried turning it off?  This possible solution never seems to occur to any of my neighbours.

When using a 'Pay at the Pump' console at the petrol station, I put my credit card in the slot where the receipt comes out, and it got stuck there.

...I managed to crick my neck really badly during the night, and now I'm hobbling around like Igor, whimpering quietly to myself.

As you may or may not recall I had a break-in a couple of months ago and a few bits and pieces were taken. I went through the rigamarole of proving my possession of certain items with the insurance company and finally received a settlement last week of just over a grand. In the same week, my 3 year old son was hit by a car outside our house and had to be rushed to hospital. LUCKILY - thanking Christ, as the phonecall I got at the office when it happened was the most horrible phone call I have ever received and I never want to hear the likes of it again - he was completely fine, apart from some cuts and grazes to his stomach. It still required a couple of days in hospital though, a lot of x-rays and CT scans and the like... Had to be done as you never know... Anyway, received the bill from the hospital today - 1500 smackers. And without getting into too much detail, as the person who was driving the car at the time is family...its up to me to foot the bill... So I won't be using the insurance pay-off to replace the laptop that was stolen after all.

Easy come,easy go I guess.

But at the end of the day, its only cash and my son is alive and well, and thats the main thing. But what a bad couple of months we are having!!!!!! That's got to be my share of bad luck out of the way for at least five years now - hasn't it?

Bloody hell, Van Dom. I came to report that the satsuma I just peeled is rotten in the middle, but your tale has kinda put that into perspective.
Glad your boy's alright- I know the fear of that phone call- although thatnk grud I've never been on the receiving end of it.

You put our minor worries into perspective with that one, Van Dom.  And while I know you're happy to pay it given the circumstances, €1,500 for a few days in hospital and some tests... jeezuz, this country.  And meanwhile in the US the anti-Obama boys are knocking the concept of the satanic NHS. Hah.

Very glad your boy was okay, and hope you find a mega-cheapo laptop solution soon.

I am entirely unable to comprehend how anyone can think of universal health care as a bad thing. I just really, really, don't get it.

Cheers

Van Doom, glad to hear you boys alright, it is a horror of a phone call to get,

I had a similar one many years ago when the eldest Huff was ran over by a car, he is still getting his teeth fixed due to the accident, Thanks to the NHS we have never had to shell out a penny for:

parmedics, there in minutes
the days in hospital,
hours in surgery ( the surgeon spent hours on delicate needle work instead of zipping him up, she 'didn't want him to have a scar'),
three sets of teeth that have since been knocked out( by a golfball, an elbow and a bar of Highland toffee)
oh
and all his asthma treatment is taken care of too

God Bless Nye and the NHS

Thanks Tordelback. Someone said I can claim some of this back through tax at the end of the year but I'm completely ignorant of all things tax-related so no idea how that works. I'll look into it though, as these are big bucks we're talking about!!!!

Glad to hear your kid is unhurt.

As for the healthcare issue in the US i followed that with interest .

I attempted to explain to about the NHS on a couple of political forums to US forum users about how socialised healthcare is a good thing for everyone.

I also explained how in the UK you have a choice between NHS or private if you pay the insurance to cover it.

There are a *LOT* of reasons why there is opposition to Obamacare which i wont go into or bore you with but the main point that is dividing the US is that the Govt is going to run healthcare wholesale and removing the option for you to pay for private healthcare therefore denying you any choice in what treatment you receive which in my opinion is wrong.

Not to mention the Death panel that will decide who does or doesnt get treatment because of costcutting.

Anyway some in the US are opposed to socialised healthcare [without any good reason] full stop which i dont understand because presently there are 47 million in the US who dont have *any* healthcare and in a first world country [at the moment anyway] that is a disgrace.
