Way better than last week's episode.

It felt like it could have had a little extra time at the end - it was all a bit of rush into the credits with the music not really suiting a whizz past of credits.

Really impressed with the score by Segun Akinola - I can't imagine Murray Gold on an episode like that.

I've been asking for a reprint of the Starlord stories in a hardback, with colour spreads reinstated, and Journey into Hell with colour spreads.

The repro in the current Agency Files isn't a good representation of Carlos' work.

Add in his colour Stront stories (The Collector, Beast of Milton Keynes - not sure if any others) and the last two stories and that would make a fitting tribute.

I think he had a point, given how overlit the studios were at the time.

Was this not simply a by-product of the way many studio scenes were shot…?

Rather than multiple takes for wide, close-up and reaction, they would simply stick three or more cameras on set and shoot once, with one camera taking in the wide, another for Doctor close-ups, a third for Companion #1, and so on. Of necessity, this meant the lighting had to be as flat and bland as possible to work with multiple cameras shooting simultaneously from different angles.

From what I recall, pretty much like that.

From what I've read Caves of Androzani was shot much more like a regular film was, and is well-regarded but was an exception.

... it was nice to hear in the ThrillCast that Matt Smith's inclination was to end Stront Dog

... and that he thinks that will be John Wagner's wish, too. I agree with other commentators that the symbolic restoration of the Sternhammer-Alpha partnership brought the strip full circle and was a touching end to the Resurrection era stories*

We already knew how Johnny and Wulf died. Now we know how their story ended **

* Which, in the end, turned out to be all about undoing the misguided decision(s) to end the lives of those characters in the first place.

** Perfectly.  If you can read that last page without welling-up, see a doctor.

It was affecting at the time - now, it carries so much weight.

Yeah, it's amazing work. Colour Dredd in the annuals was a Christmas treat.

A colour Carlos epic, really was like having our Christmases at once.

I love black and white, it's what I grew up with - but this was stunning.

I adored his use of colour on his painted (or colour inked) pages.

Splashes of neon through the spectrum from panel to panel.

There's also a panel of Odell in Countdown to Necropolis just loosely painted in silhouetted in a lit doorway, which gives another layer to the art.

I seem to remember John Cleese making a guest appearance as a genie and shouting "kids' show!" before being banished back into his lamp. Whereas Python was more "adult" (or possibly cerebral), The Goodies seemed to have a wider appeal, much like The Simpsons I think.

Yeah, that was in the Goodies and the Beanstalk - the Simpsons isn't a bad example, especially where the initial setup takes a real detour.

Hmm - a restart fixed it this time.

Wonder if it being active when new content is released requires a restart?

The ipad app is knackered again for me.

Can't buy, can't download previously bought content.

There are some great gags in there, especially from Graeme Garden.

Some of the early stuff seems to drift off towards the end in particular, but yeah I'd say under-rated.

It's weird that it gets labelled as kid's stuff - was shown about 7:30pm, but a lot of the jokes aimed at adults in the same way 40s Warner Bros cartoons might have been.

Working my way through 60 odd episodes of the BBC episodes of the Goodies.

The early stuff is a bit hit and miss, but fascinating from a historical perspective, even when it gets a bit uncomfortable.

What stood out is how regularly things pop up that remind me of other stuff.

There's the music master's organ/artillery combo, similar to the Pandemonium in Nemesis, the Mirth Police in Goodies Rule OK, destroying anything that might give pleasure *waves at Judge Cal*, even the impersonating puppets is very Shaun of the Dead.

I jumped ahead a few years to Goodies Rule OK - (The one with the giant Dougal) I've no idea what the budget was but with the props and miniatures, or it being kept in-house at the BBC, it's pretty astonishing to see that spent on a comedy programme.

With it being a 70s programme there's also pretty much a Rolf Harris mention/appearance every other episode... even back to back Cyril Smith and Stuart Hall... plus doses of Savile.

Good to see a replacement for the crying boy painting that survives house fires.

Just had a clear out of behind the scenes videos and uploaded them onto the facebook page

Think they were mostly shot by John Burdis

Would you like a chocolate bar and a bottle of water to go with it?

Yeah very dubious.
