General / Re: 2000AD fanwork legality?
« on: 11 June, 2018, 06:47:14 pm »
not that I'm officially reaching out or explicitly seeking permission from them, because that would probably open up a whole inconvenient can of worms on their part.

I listened to an IP lawyer who explained two things:
1) Ignorance is no defence of copyright law
2) Neither is not making money out of it

So here's my advice. I think making an online book/game would be objected to once discovered. Particularly if it could be found by the general public. So don't proceed without permission unless you're prepared to pull it down later if requested.

Even if you're not infringing copyrights themselves, you run the risk of passing off, which is trading off their goodwill. Honestly I would write your own story. Maybe submit it to Zarjaz etc or print copies off for a few friends but if you put it online you do risk being asked to take it down.

We've only sold two copies so far...

Suggestions / Could we have a Judge Anderson Special?
« on: 06 June, 2018, 05:17:20 pm »
It could be quite a nice opportunity to invite back as many of Anderson's artists to tell a new story or contribute a pin-up.

I can imagine it being quite commercial if it had a Bolland cover.

Dredd got his first special in 1988, so maybe it's time?

Prog / Re: Prog 2084 - Hail to the Chief!

This prog is more of the same in a good way. The prog is well balanced with a strip for everyone.

I agree. I know its fashionable to bash the prog but I think as an anthology it has a really solid mix of art styles and writing. I like Survival Geeks and think its really well executed. It always helps when Dredd is on fire (and it is) but really good all round.

Film & TV / Re: Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

They pissed off a lot of the star wars hardcore, so the fan boys who would have seen this 10 times have decided not to.

That is the best explanation for the under-performance.
I still think we'll get a sequel to Solo as all Star Wars movies are now tarnished so its even more risky trying something left-field.

I still loved The Last Jedi but then I think our generation of Brits are more used to characters being subverted by new Creators. I mean Luke really going, in person, to fight on Crayt? Bonkers. Be like Yoda rocking up on Bespin in 1980 and having a three way fight with Vader and Son.

it seemed weird to cramp so much into this one story of his origin... some could have been left for the later films... though of course if the internet knowledgable types are to be believed these ain't happening now so its a good job they cramped it all in here I suppose!

Oh man. I loved that they ticked every Han box all in one movie. I've seen so many TV series that take ages to get to the origin... of the story... of the start... where it all began... tease tease (Gotham I'm looking at you) if I go to the cinema I want to see it all. Not saying it was a classic but it was a pretty generous serving.

I think that it is very significant who got left alive

The fact it consisted of Iron Man, Thor and Cap to me makes it likely that however the reversal takes place, it will require some sort of exchange of the lives of the old guard to reinstate the new Avengers team of Spiderman, Black Panther, Iron Patriot, Winter Soldier etc.

I agree with Eamonn that ultimately they make no material difference to Thanos' Plan except that Spidey gets promoted, heroes meet and Gamora shows love for her sister which must be re-paid in some dramatic sense

According to BoxOfficeMojo, Avengers Infinity War made more money domestically in its first weekend than Justice League did in its entire run.

I think that is an astonishing feat that really shows how many more people wanted to see this movie rather than the DC equivalent.

Yup 100% agree.

Marvel dont do 'set pieces' anymore - the whole movie is a 'set piece' but not in a Transformers nonsense way. I cared about the characters and was on the edge of my seat.

So many moments. Never had an audience applaud an entry before.

Thanks Jim. That's helpful. I'm not sure if I'm on a foolish task on this one.
But I'm going to try!

So far (at the 40th) I got everyone there who contributed to progs 1 - 26 so:

John Wagner
Pat Mills
Kev O'Neill (gosh night before)
Steve McManus
Ian Kennedy
Jack Adrian / Chris Lowder
Carlos Ezquerra
Dave Gibbons
Mike McMahon
Jesus Redondo

Figure I can get Ian Gibson at Lawgiver

Help! / Have I missed any 1st appearances by notable artists/writers?
« on: 07 April, 2018, 06:50:45 pm »
Hi guys
I'm trying to get signatures in order of appearance in the prog.
So far I've got the signatures of (almost) everyone on the convention circuit who contributed to progs 1 - 26

But to your knowledge is there anyone else missing from 1st appearances in the first 600 progs

So far on my list to get is...

2 Gerry Finley Day
11 Brian Bolland
14 Ian Gibson Dredd

25 John Higgins
33 Brendan McCarthy / Brett Ewins
101 Alan Grant Futureshock
104 Ron Smith
142 Cam Kennedy VCs
170 Alan Moore
189 Steve Dillion
257 Bryan Talbot
287 Alan Davis / Harry Rock
362 Cliff Robinson
372 Mike Collins Futureshock + Mark Famer
410 Glenn Fabry Slaine Time Killers
555 Bisley ABC Warriors
651 David Hine Dredd Pin up
873 Clint Langley Dinosty

Anyone else? There's some I've left off as I just don't think they do the rounds i.e. Angie Kincaid but I'd take your advice if you think that's not the case

Books & Comics / Re: 80's Dan Dare

I scanned them all in and had these books made

There's a few issues commercially. There's a lot of 3 page episodes where the double page can't be moved. And also quite a few speech bubbles in the 'crease'

All 7 books are on my YouTube channel if you just want a nosatalgia hit
