Film & TV / Comic Con Trailers
« on: 24 July, 2018, 12:44:52 pm »
Watched a couple of the trailers from Comic Con:

Aquaman - I'm fairly indifferent about the DC franchise - Suicide Squad was mostly bad, Wonder Woman was good if OTT at the end, and I didn't bother with Justice League. So this isn't garnering much enthusiasm from me at present. Happy to be proved wrong though.

Godzilla King of the Monsters - I enjoyed Gareth Edwards' take on the big lizard, he isn't involved this time round, but this looks good in an all the big monsters coming out to play way. This is a link to the following Godzilla vs. (Skull Island) Kong. Count me in for this.

Other Reviews / Dark Judges - Fall of Deadworld Vol. 1
« on: 07 January, 2018, 11:24:16 pm »
I bought a copy of this with some money I got for Christmas and just finished reading it. It really is horrifically good. We all know the outcome, but getting there is expertly told by Kek-W, and Dave Kendall's art is so rich you can almost taste the decay. It flows together really well in one volume, with Dreams of Deadworld, which started it all off, concluding the book, my favourite of these remains Mortis. Looking forward to more.

General / Justice Department funding
« on: 28 November, 2017, 12:24:22 pm »
I know this has probably been asked before, but how is Justice Department funded? Judges don't get paid, but all their kit, uniforms, training etc. has to be paid for from somewhere. Cityblock rent? Tax from citizens that work? Off-world investments?

Or do they just get everything for free because they are the Law?

Classifieds / Hachette 2000AD collection - Clint Langley spines
« on: 11 October, 2017, 12:40:12 pm »
Now that I have the Boo Cook versions, the four pilot issues of the Hachette 2000AD collection with spine art by Clint Langley (Slaine The Horned God, Halo Jones books 1-3, Shakara the Avenger and Strontium Dog The Kreeler Conspiracy) are taking up shelf space I no longer have. So they're free to a good home, Sheffield area, or can post for a suggested charity donation.

Appreciate the rest of these spines won't be issued, but may plug a gap in a collection if you're not collecting the rest of the series.

Film & TV / Mother!
« on: 19 September, 2017, 10:17:49 pm »
Saw this today after reading various reviews & thoughts on it, including one that advised me to read as little as possible before seeing.

Suffice to say, it's one of the most bonkers films I've ever seen, and I've seen a fair few. Top marks to all the creators involved. What I find fascinating is that it's a work that has completely polarised opinion, there's no middle ground. The last film I can remember to have the same effect was Only God Forgives, which I loved, but I can completely understand the opposite view.

It's great when stuff like this comes out and provokes such debate, it keeps things vibrant and what good art should be about.

Very interested to know what fellow posters who have seen it think.

Just heard that Steve Dillon has passed away. Really sad news. Loved his work on Dredd, Rogue Trooper and Doctor Who. RIP Steve.
