I'd like to see Helltrekkers in a version I could purchase. It's in the Dredd Mega Collections, but you can only get those off of ebay here in the states.

..And it's bundled with some pretty dire stories in that edition, too!

The Happiness of the Katakuris: Barmy mad Takashi Miike horror comedy about a family of innkeepers who's guests continually die in ludicrous accidents and rather than risk the wrath of the authorities bury the poor travellers themselves.

Do check out Quiet Family, the Korean original on which Katakuris is based. A great film in its own right and also very funny, though in a completely different way - really rich black humour rather than the 'wtf' belly laughs of Miike. It makes Katakuris even funnier in retrospect, when you know just how absurd and audacious the remake is!

No love for Lenny Zero? I have the Undercover Brothers MC volume on the basis of good reports here... not worth the punt, Funt?

I love it - proper good twisty caper/heist stories, by someone very much versed in Mega-City history packing the stories full of little easter eggs, and splendiferous Jock artwork on the first three tales. More exciting than Armitage, less smug than Simping Detective, funnier than Demarco P.I. That last story was my least favourite of the bunch, but at least it was a proper post-DoC story at a time when there wasn't enough of those.

It's about personal mileage, but personally I thought the audacity of a sentient cash machine robbing the gang blind then jaunting to the Bahamas for sun and sangria was hilarious - exactly the sort of old-school Wagner-Grant Meg madness that's missing from most Dreddworld spinoffs.

Controversially, I adore Carlos Ezquerra's artwork. It is, however, almost a decade[1] since he was Tharg's go-to-guy for an epic.
[1] That's a combination of focussing on Strontium Dog, being 70 years old, losing a lung to cancer, and Tharg not really running much you could describe as an epic (in the Apocalypse War sense of the term) since Day Of Chaos. Not Tharg's fault and no reflection on Carlos's great work.

I love Carlos on Dredd, natch, but it isn't as though there aren't other artists clamouring for a go. When it comes to Stront, though, I don't know if I want anyone else on that strip (maybe Colin MacNeil). I'd happily have him never draw a Dredd strip again to get as much Stront as possible before his eventual retirement.

the 2012 costume is closer to the 1977 version than it's given credit for.

I agree, though I'm unsure if this was a deliberate choice or just a coincidence.

Always assumed it was a coincidence born of the same desire i.e. to make it all a bit streamlined and stress the 'biker' aspect.

You must just not love Stront enough, Leigh.  ;)

The Kingdom is Lars Von Triers danish two season tv series.

I quite enjoyed the Stephen King-adapted US remake (at least initially, it started to ramble a bit as it went on and the tone was all over the place) and always meant to check out the original...

Is the Meltdown Man book complete?  Would like to know if it's worth upgrading from the softcover Rebellion edition.

Yes, it's the whole thing!

Time Twisters are a short story involving time travel shenanigans in some way; Past Imperfect are alternative history tales, no time travel involved.

So, War Machine, but with biochips, stammels, Fort Neuropa and Charybdis in the second act.  There, we're sorted.

Yup.

A Ghost Story. Rave reviews led me to give this quirky little gem a chance, and boy am I glad I did. A Texas muscian dies in a car crash; moments after his wife has identified his body at the morgue and pulled the sheet over his head, he sits up and follows her home. From that point on we know him only as a walking sheet with two little eyeholes - it's such a goofy, cartoonish image that the film can afford to go to some deeply sombre and thoughtful places.

Early on I must admit my patience was tried. It all seemed just a little too indie, a little too hipster, a little too pleased with itself. We spend five minutes watching a woman eat a pie at one point, and I thought about giving up on it - and then it got me. Boy, did it get me! A beautiful meditation on time, loss and love that has a lot to say with very little dialogue at all, because the visuals and the music do all the heavy lifting. Not necessarily a film I would watch again in a hurry, but I was still mulling it all over a few days later, and that hasn't happened for a while.

Oh, yes indeed - it kills me that these come at a time when I just can't justify the expense, so I'll be sitting these out for the forseeable - but I just love that they exist. A Maeve the Many-Armed mini?! Weerd brothers? Blubberlips? Slabhead and his 'dogs'? Amazing.

Wulf in gronk jerkin and Alpha in Mayger Minor Incident and Journey Into Hell outfits are musts!

Yeah, can't quite believe Wulf's not already in his jerkin!

I have to say, I think Alpha himself's one of the weakest of the sculpts so far...

The coolest thing about the Judge Dredd story is when you realise that you can also read it a linear comic...

... and the biggest face palm moment is when you realise that you weren't supposed to.   :-[

No, it's t'other way round - the dawning realisation, after trying umpteen times to get through the game and dying every single time, that the only way to make it to the end is read it as a straight narrative. One of the cleverest one-off Dredds ever!
