Help! / Saturday Dredds in colour
09 May, 2021, 11:18:40 PM
I have collected a good few of these and I'm looking for help!
Some of the Saturday Dredd appeared in colour, and the majority of the colouring is very good, I would suspect that Ron Smith did both art and colour.

I know of two from 1983, and then in 1986 there is more, the numbers I have are

228
233-242
243 is B&W
(244 I don't have, but I know is in colour)
245
246
248
249 is B&W
250
252
253
254
255 is B&W

Has anyone anymore in colour?

I hope this is OK to put up here -delighted to announce the Angry Planet collection from Hibernia is available now from Hibernia's shop -
http://www.comicsy.co.uk/hibernia/

Here's the blurb!

The Fleetway Files is a new series from Hibernia in association with The Treasury of British comic which aims to present the very best of Fleetway comics and build into an unmissable collection.

The first release in this series is a lost classic, Alan Hebden and Massimo Belardinelli's The Angry Planet, collected from the pages of Tornado and never before reprinted. Tornado (originally titled Heroes until a last-minute name change dictated by IPC management) was launched as a companion to 2000 AD and was designed to be a mixed-content adventure comic.

It included strips that spanned genres and time periods like Blackhawk, Captain Klep, Victor Drago (the detective Sexton Blake in all but name, thanks to a copyright issue) and The Mind of Wolfie Smith. It was not to last however and Tornado merged into 2000 AD after just 22 issues.

The Angry Planet featured in all 22 issues, but unlike Wolfie Smith and Blackhawk it concluded in the pages of Tornado. A sequel titled Mars Force was planned, which was to be set 50 years after the end of The Angry Planet and Belardinelli drew several pages which featured a new set of characters designed by Brian Bolland! Sadly, it never materialised.

The Angry Planet touches on themes such as resource scarcity and corporate control that remain relevant today, but at heart it's a rollercoaster sci-fi tale about rebellion. So, dive straight in and be blown away by Hebden's usual hard-nosed characters and dynamic script and cover to cover with Belardinelli's astonishing artwork as you join the first-generation Martians and their efforts to overthrow the dastardly Mars Inc.!

The Angry Planet

Colour Cover, B&W internals. perfect bound.

A bit of a long shot, I'm after a few issues of Jag from the end of its run around Feb/March 1969.
Jag was an odd comic, tabloid, 16 pages with a wide mix of content, from humour to Sci Fi.
It had excellent production,  featuring art from people like Joe Colquhoun, Jesús Balsco and Eric Bradbury. And yes its one specific story I'm after :P PM me if you can help!

New from Hibernia 'The Fleetway Files' the forth in its 'Comic Archive' series, available now to buy here: http://www.comicsy.co.uk/hibernia/
Fleetway File's explores the publishing phenomenon that was IPC Magazine's comic division. Formed in 1969, the comic division brought together different comic publishing houses under one group and thereafter published an avalanche of titles and creativity for the best part of two decades.
Fleetway Files looks at all facets of this time, from Girls and Humour to Football and Adventure, with interviews and contributions from all the main movers e.g. David Hunt, Barrie Tomlinson, Bob Paynter and the late Gil Page.
Fleetway Files also contains interviews with Scott Goodall, James Nicholas (Tomlinson), Ian Vosper, and a small contribution from the late Jan Shepheard, and much more.
The launch of the new Eagle and the genesis of its incarnation of Dan Dare is examined with the help of Barrie Tomlinson and David Hunt . West County eighties cosplayer, coffins in Kings Reach Towers and Dan Dare movie treatments are all included!
Incredible rare and never seen before artwork by Ian Kennedy and Vanyo is seen in the 'Creating Comics' section, looking at the original pitch and characters sketches of Wildcat comic and Battle's 'Storm Force'
For more rare artwork via Brazil we have a Sticker album featured, and why should we be interested? It's fully painted by the incredible Ian Kennedy!
Massimo Belardinelli art collector Robbie Cox treats us to an amazing double page spread of previously unpublished Belardinelli artwork, intended for the short lived Tornado, curiously working from Brian Bolland designs!
If that's not enough, in association with Rebellion we proudly have the 'Treasury of British Comics Sampler' 16 page section or 'pullout' in grand Whizzer and Chips tradition! Rebellion's Ben Smith and Keith Richardson tell of Rebellions acquisition of the Fleetway archive and their plans for the future.
Also included courtesy of the Treasury line is the origin of 'Hot Shot Hamish', 'Sergeant Strong', Zenith's 'Amazing Three' and more with art from British legends like Ken Reid, John Burns and Denis McLaughlin.
Written and Edited by David McDonald (Scream Zine 'It's Ghastly', 'Beyond 2000AD' and 'One Eyed Jack and the Death of Valiant') with additions articles by Jenni Scott, (JintyBlog) and Matt Bowen (Buster Website)
Design and additional material by Richard Pearce and article editing by Mike Donachie, with a big thanks to Dez Skinn for some last minute proof reading, yes that Dez Skinn!

Books & Comics / Missing Dredd tales?
24 January, 2018, 10:40:28 PM
OK, so John Wagner is probably my favourite comic writer, I especially love his more hard boiled material like Buttonman, History of Violence, procedural Dredd and the Western Stronts.
The current Wagner Death tales are OK, but if I'm honest I'm enjoying the other version of Death and his pals more at the moment.
Wagner's current Death tales do beg a few questions, and I don't think they have  been addressed.
For example how did the DJ's escape from PJ Maybe and where did Death spring from, I though he was nuked (could that 'kill' him?). How did PJ escape for the DJ's, and end up with his friend in his head, and was it really PJ that Dredd killed?

Maybe all this has been explained and I'm missing something :-[ Any thought?

Help! / Zenith Titan Vol. 1
06 January, 2018, 12:40:49 AM
Has anyone got the first Titan volume of Zenith?
I'm not looking to buy, as I have it somewhere, but for the life of me I cant find it. From what I remember there is a small piece at the start about the origins of Zenith, including a drawing Grant did of Zenith that later appeared in Ark. If anyone has it any chance I could get a scan of the article?

Cheers,

David
