Seems very odd - unless I'm really missing something - that this hasn't been announced here already.  It's the first major 2000AD signing event in a comic shop in.....well....almost forever, with a not half-bad promised turnout of droids.*

Get yerself down to Shaftesbury Avenue this Saturday!

Film & TV / spidey - the musical!
25 February, 2009, 01:26:06 PM
//http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2009/02/launch-window-f.html

Yes, forget all this tired old hat Dredd movie nonsense.  Comics-to-Broadway musicals is where it's at now.  Spider-Man!  As a Broadway musical!  With music by Bono & The Edge!  There's no way this should be allowed to succeed!  [Surely 'no way this could fail'? - ed.]

Time to dust off that old and unfunny all-singing Robohunter series that seemed to just go on forever [Surely 'classic thrill of yesteryear'? -ed] and get it into production at the West End pronto.

This is how you promote games - build a big bastard future war armoured vehicle for real, and put up you-tube vidoes of it crushing helpless cars.

Events / New York Comic Con
27 January, 2009, 06:27:19 PM
I know money's scarce at the moment, but anyone else maybe going to this next week?   In a shocking break with tradition - ten years since I went to a non-Dreddcon con - I'll be there, along with a bunch of other droids.  (But only because I'm required to help plug a game I worked on - Splatterhouse, coming to a nex-gen console near you...errm...sometime later this year.)

Should be fun, but blimey, have you seen

a) the temperature there at the moment
b) the value of the pound to the dollar

Help ma boab!

And in more of a 2000AD-linkee thing, the main guest of honour this year is Grant Morrison, I think.

Games / Rebellion hint at possible future Dredd MMO
12 November, 2008, 10:30:34 AM
Something to get some people all hot and bothered.

//http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/rebellion-digital-distribution-is-fascinating-opportunity

QuoteKingsley also hinted that Rebellion might consider one day working on an MMO, possibly utilising the company's 2000AD license.

"The MMO market is really intriguing, and we keep looking at it and thinking, 'Bloody Hell, that's potentially fantastic,' said Kingsley.

"And given that we've got quite a lot of intellectual property, an MMO of maybe Mega-City One might be fascinating, with Judges and Perps and all that sort of stuff - it might be a perfect opportunity.

No sign of Slaine: Grand Theft Dragon quite yet, though.

Zany Danish journo tries to test Lara Croft model on her archaeology knowledge during promo interviews for the forthcoming Tomb Raider Underworld game.  Car crash video ensues.

The best bits:

Her bikini top
Intervention by Eidos PR woman
"But my last question is a joke!"  Phew.  Those madcap Danes and their crazy humour.
"Switch off the camera now."

Thank goodness they cut the interview short, before the Danes got something that made her look really stupid, and then put it up on the internet!

Off Topic / Nostradamus predicts World Cup winner
21 June, 2006, 06:41:58 PM
"According to a report on the '20minutos' website, French medic and prophet Michel de Notredame (1503-1566), better known as Nostradamus, predicted that Spain will win the Germany 2006 World Cup finals.

The prophecy predicts that: "At the end of the sixth month of 2006, the King of Spain will cross the Pyrenees with his army. The legions of Beelzebub await the battle on the central European planes. Destruction and defeat will fall on the evil-doers. The Holy Grail will be returned to Spain by the triumphant King.""

Good news, lads - at least England will get all the way to the Final!

Off Topic / MC Dicko - the legend returns!
31 May, 2006, 04:29:47 AM
Yes, he's back with a new myspace site.  And a new song, too, where a new and more mature Dicko gets all soulful and poignant on us:

"Let's go back to 9/11
Many souls went straight to heaven."

Something there for us all to think about, I hope.

05 April, 2006, 07:01:14 PM
The third - and last - of the Rogue trailers is up on the net.

Moaners beware - it's strictly a gameplay one, emphasising the different equipment choices and strategies available to Rogue.

Film & TV / The Warriors
09 March, 2006, 10:25:42 PM
I don't know if anyone's seen this recently, but there's a plot hole that's always bothered me, although no-one else ever seems to mention it.

Near the end, when the Warriors are squaring up to the Orphans, Swan asks Luthor why he killed Cyrus.  Luthor says "No reason...I just like doing things like that."

But...

Earlier in the film, we've seen Luthor calling someone from a payphone and basically confirming that everything went according to plan and that Cyrus is dead.

Doesn't this suggest that the Orphans were working for someone else, and that it was all planned in advance?

General / Alan Grant Frank Miller
28 February, 2006, 08:08:42 PM
Talking on the Radio Scotland arts show last night about the forthcoming 'Holy Terror, Batman'.  Fair puts the boot into Frank Miller in a typically drole, witty and articulate way.

You can listen to a replay of the interview on the radio Scotland website.  Go to the link below, click on 'Listen Again', and then go 20 minutes into the programme's running time.
