Shihad - FVEY

Brilliant. After two mediocre albums (both of which I just couldn't get through) this is an astonishing return to form. Great to hear Jaz Coleman behind the desk as well.
The views above are entirely my own. And there's the problem.

Noel Gallagher's hilariously grumpy, scathing, and increasingly incredulous, and exasperated audio commentary for Oasis's video anthology, as recommended during a brilliant episode of the South London Hardcore podcast. Fantastic to learn he feels exactly the same way as me about most of his career:

Oh, cheers! I'm saving that for a quiet night - sounds brilliant!

A lot of Kate Bush.

(Just for asking; Did anyone here manage to snag tickets for her shows?)

I, Cosh

Finally got around to checking out this Deafheaven album the kids were all talking about six months ago. To my untrained ear it sounds like they've taken the drums and structure of thrashy metal but left the guitars tuned to indie rock. It's quite pleasant.

J Mascis' new album is a gentler, acoustic alternative. This one with added Cat Power is a highlight.

Not me but my pal did and here she is being interviewed for Channel 4 News. I think she liked it.

Because Sauchie asked elsewhere tonight I will be mostly listening to...

http://youtu.be/Z5-rdr0qhWk :D
Whatever happened to Rico, Dolman and Cadet Paris? I'm sooo out of the loop.

Devons Daddy

reminded of the sheer brilliance of Kate Bush recently due to her reappearance upon the music scene.

Don't give upwith Peter Garbriel,
being one of the top five songs in my world
yet her back catalogue is seriously adult pop, truly enjoying it.
I AM VERY BUSY!
PJ Maybe and I use the same dictionary, live with it.

NO 2000ad no life!

As a result of the referendum stramash I have been mostly listening to -

Good game. I choose this mainly for the band name, but also because all Scottish people are gay:

Devolution / de-evolution?

I prefer this version:

All sorts of things really. Lee Gamble's new album seems like a winner. There's a thing on track four where it sounds like the drum machine has been recorded from inside a giant hiking sock which is pretty amazing.

Mostly early, abrasive Sonic Youth though. It turns out there's this track, Flower, that I'd never heard before which is an absolute corker. Goddamn these young people with their CD reissues adding good tracks to old albums instead of a load of dogshite demos. Anyway, it got me thinking about how, if pressed, I'd say I don't much care for Kim's tracks even though their best song is one of hers: Take my hand, you might as well/ We're goin' straight to Hell.

The live rendition of that song from 1991: The Year Punk Broke is one of my favourite things of all time, as is the while movie:

The flange on this version of Freakscene by Dinosaur Jr is another:

Blimey. It's a long time since my old copy of that went missing. Need to see if it's ever come out on DVD.

Heavens to murgatroyd you're not wrong there. 'The Year Punk Broke' was indeed a thing of wonder and like Cosh alas my video of said is long gone.

Its that video that taught me the Kiwi is indeed the King of all the Fruit ... though its so long since I've seen it I might even be miss remembering that!

After all the fuss it finally did come out on DVD, I only knew when an old friend of mine gave me it as a gift. There aren't too many extras apart from a panel interview with a few of the protagonists, but who cares? You can get it for under a tenner on Amazon, I just checked.
