Dante's cliff-hanger

So what happened to Dante when he went over the cliff? Is the latest story supposed to be the latest instalment and we assume he walked out of the wreckage and constructed a raft, or is it another flashback to earlier times? Bit of a disappointment if it's the former I reckon (though I haven't read this week's yet in case it has any clues)

Either it'll be explained fully later in flashbacks or we are just left to fill in the gaps.  Must say I'm enjoying it though, and I don't always.
