Title: All the Images in TOM FRAME's Memorial Illo
Post by: +rufus+ on 26 February, 2007, 12:42:06 AM
I've been meaning to put all the elements that went into making Tom's Memorial up for quite sometime...

Well, seeing as this week's the 30th Anniverary, this seems as good as time as any to remember Tom, and to thank the counyless artists who contributed their time, energy and beautiful pictures for Tom, for free.

I particularily want to thank Dom Regan and Jamie Grant, who coloured many of the characters, (again... for free) at short notice, and very quickly.

I'm sure Tom'll be up there raising a pint, celebrating the 30th Anniversary, and to all Tharg's loyal readers...

 hope you like them...

Nice to see these Rufus  - thanks for taking the time to post the images.

Man, how time moves on. It seems ages since we heard Tom passed, it's only been about 6 months or so.

Any word of the artwork getting auctioned for charity?(not that you have enough to do as it is Rufus)

Thanks again.

Cheers for posting these, Rufus! Truly excellent work, especially considering the brief amount of time in which they were assembled.

Also, might be worth pointing folks back to the Marie Curie site, so they can make a donation if they feel to.

Hey Rufus, it would be nice of you could auction some of the paper based art for Marie Curie. Do you have any of them or were they all scanned and emailed to you?

Thanks tons for posting these up, Rufus.

I wonder if some kind of collected, printed edition, packaged in with a Megazine, or the weekly, with a suitable price hike, might be a good way of generating some money for Marie Curie.

(Plus, from a selfish point of view, we'd get an amazing collection of stunning art.)

What about producing a limited edition print, say to 500 signed by the artists. I remember they used to something similar at UKCAC years back.

I think this would make a couple of grand to a great course.

Title: Re: All the Images in TOM FRAME's ...

Nice idea...

the only problem being, I draw full time ..

(and that really means full time...I don't get paid for doing this, or any of my extra bits'n'pieces i do to help out Tharg, and other artbots..)

I don't have the money to outlay on printing up things in the hope they might sell, then to give it all away!! If I had a magic pot of gold, believe me.. I would..

I struggle to juggle my own outgoings, (hey.. who doesn't?) and do try'n and contribute as much time and energy to others/small press/charity as I can.

Maybe Jason Kingsley can hire me as Tharg's Human relations bot... 8-) then I could be an agent of thrill power full time...

Rufus. the slightly burnt out!!

Now if Rebellion were to pay for the set up costs etc, think about what a great PR exercise it would be. Get the media involved etc.

'The Galaxy's Greatest Comic helps and Marie Curie fight cancer' or summut like that!

Title: Re: All the Images in TOM FRAME's ...
Post by: Buddy on 27 February, 2007, 04:32:39 PM
The printing part shouldn't be too hard to organise or be that costly.

I'll have a word with some printers I've used in the past to get a costing, say 500 A3.

The hard part would be to get all the artists to sign all 500 (or whatever number) prints.

Jock - Judge Dredd

A huge thank you to Jock, who despite being insanely busy, and having already drawn Lenny Zero, valiantly stepped in at the last minute to draw Judge Dredd.

Due to conflicting schedules, Brian Bolland decided to do his own tribute (on the Origins Cover), so I had the whole tribute... and no Dredd.

 First step.. panic.

Second step, ...make a wish list..

If it can't be Bolland, whom else does the definitive Dredd now?

 Thanks Jock, you're a star.

This is the last piece, and not only being from the youngest contributor, but from Tom's extended family.

Hope you've enjoyed all these lovely illustations.

Again, I'd like to thank all the contributors, and all the people who contributed in Tom's name to the Marie Curie trust.

Plans are underway as well, so you'll soon be able to buy Tom's font. I look forward to seeing Tom's
familiar writing back on the pages of the Galaxy's Greatest Publications.

I for one plan to use it, and give Tom the lettering credit.

A great man, a lovely friend, and one of the Comics Industries most genuine characters.

Tom, we salute you.

Sobering to see John Hicklenton's contribution, and still hard to believe he went so young. :-(

Also sad to note that Tom's lettering font never appeared to surface. Anyone looking for a Frame-like quality to their lettering could do worse than invest in a copy of Comicraft's CCMarianChurchland, which is very like Tom's lettering in its tall, thin proportions. I've used it on both of McAuliffe/Boyle's Dark Judgement specials and (I think) everything else I've lettered for Zarjaz/Dogbreath, if anyone wants to see it in action.

Cheers

Jim
