Please note that only PROPER limericks will be entered into the voting part, so don't be too clever and write non rhyiming, too short or even too long ones.

I really enjoyed the anti-limericks (particularly Skullmo's) but I guess you have to draw the line somewhere. Will Goosegash's brilliant entry count? It does at least end with an implied rhyme.

Books & Comics / Re: Favorite Comics of 2014

The Wicked + the Divine by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie.
I hadn't heard of these guys before (I've been getting back into comics this year after several years of reading almost nothing but Dan Clowes, Charles Burns and Chris Ware). I picked up #1 after reading a preview on D'Israeli's Tumblr, and immediately remembered why I gave up buying American monthlies - bloody ads on every other page - so I pre-ordered the trade, which is absurdly cheap (£5.25!) on Amazon/Wordery etc. Anyway, I loved it - the writing is smart without being smug, and the art is precise without being robotic.

Enjoyed Ordinary too, just wish it had been longer!

Terrific stuff from everyone - particularly impressed by Team Zarjaz, MikeD, JayzusB.Christ, Spaceghost, Mimikeke and James Dilworth. And I know it's not a competition, but I have to single out Jon's Dirty Frank, CFM/SKD's Judge Death, LARF's beautifully simple and eye-catching poster and Mike Carroll's joyous Cambermeg Green. Checking the thread every day has been a real treat - sincere thanks to Pete and all the contributors!

The Rise and Fall of Rico Dredd could be great, but if we're talking about Judge Rico, well, he's practically identical to Joe, so what would be the point?

With Judge Rico you can see how the cursed earth colony are doing

His character portrayal in the vignettes we've seen over the years have always been markedly different from Joe.

Serves me right for sticking my noob oar in... I have a lot of catching up to do! I do wonder though if there are better candidates for a stand-alone strip than a clone of Dredd.

Originally an educated guess, what convinced me I was right was a mention of
Stickleback's 'penchant for watery deaths' when he was resurrected by Doyle at the start of the last book. Never even occured to me that he could have been the other of the two chaps to go over the Falls at Reichenbach...
 Very sneaky, Edginton!

Interesting... So is the whole of Stickleback set during the Great Hiatus? And are we sure he's telling the truth at the end?
Claiming to be Holmes
would be a very
Moriarty
thing to do...

Spoiler tags are fun, they make it look like everybody's
constantly
swearing

If he's not
James Moriarty
I'll eat my hat.

I guess there was the whole
late 19th century puppet-master of the London criminal underworld
thing... Sounds like Edginton's had it all planned out from the start - I'll have to pick up the collected books and see if I can spot the clues.

Also, I liked the cameo by D'Israeli's namesake, although I think it would have been neater if Queen Vic had called him by just his first name, leaving the reader put to two and two together and letting me feel slightly clever for figuring it out. It's not like I could name many other 19th century PMs... Gladstone? Um... Lord David... Boy... George?

Stickleback has a twist in its tail (and tale) that I absolutely didn't see coming, but also that really didn't make be very excited. I hope it works out, but it seems to have the potential to strip some of the magic and mystery from the series.

I haven't read any Stickleback prior to Prog 1900 so the twist came completely out of the blue - I loved it (I actua-lolled) but I can see how long-term readers might be ambivalent or even annoyed by it. Were there any clues to his identity in previous episodes? Could anyone have seen it coming?

Good stuff! I can heartily recommend The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello, mentioned in the interview.

There's a tradition or an old charter or something which says 50% of limericks have to be about a man from Nantucket. So...

There was an old Judge from Nantucket
Whose helmet was shaped like a bucket
When the going got tough
He'd just pull it off
And under his arm he would tuck it.

Bravo to CFM, the winners and all who entered, and thanks to Mr Fraser for his insightful comments - doubtless very useful to all the practicing and aspiring artists here, and fascinating to a failed artist like me!

Here's the questionnaire which came with volume 1:

Fingers crossed they had enough interest to roll it out properly next year. A hardback Cursed Earth with colour spreads? Yes please.

I'm assuming "Harrier" is a misprint and you didn't get one of these with issue 2...
