General / OZ readers.

Hi,

It's been a long time (10-15 years ) since I read 2000 AD and I'm keen to get back into it; unfortunately the comics landscape has changed dramatically in Sydney Australia.

I used to be able to get it from most newsagents and there were several comic stores who carried it as well as back issues and graphic novels.

Sadly this has changed with few newsagents carrying magazines let alone comics and most comic stores closing down.

So, a question...

If there's any readers in Australia; where are you based and how do you get your copy of 2000 AD?

If you subscribe rather than buy locally what's the service like? How quickly does it arrive in Australia? Given Australia Post will do the last leg of delivery what's the condition like when they arrive (I'm nervous that the postie would fold them to get it into the letter box....)

Thanks for your help guys.

Hi Thrillseeker,

Very sorry I have been slow getting back to you. It's been a bit crazy here, moving house and our baby was born last Friday. Phew!

This offer still stands. I am looking at getting rid of a large quantity of comics. Several hundred back issues of 2000 ad and the Megazine that I have doubles of. I'm also looking at getting rid of any of the comics that are reprints eg. The complete Judge Dredd, The best of 2000 AD, the US Fleetway and Quality Comics etc.

If you're still interested let me know if there is specific stuff and I'll dig them out and see what I've got. Also let me know a post code and town your in so I can see what postal rates are like for you.

Feel free to contact me on mailto:taltos@iinet.com.au">taltos@iinet.com.au as I check that address more often.

If any one else is interested in what I've got let me know. I'm happy to split them up. I'd just prefer that someone who appreciated the comic got them rather then dump them or have to go through the effort of ebay. If life settles a bit in the next few days I'll pull out the boxes and post a more detailed listing

Kind regards,

Matthew

Just a reminder that's there is some FREE 2000AD comics in Sydney Australia. Surely there must be some aussies on this board or maybe you know some aussies that need some FREE THRILLPOWER. Either way drop me an email or reply to this thread and I'd love to hook you up. I'm willing to post them (as long as you foot the postage cost).

They've gotta go soon as I have a baby arriving in T minus 10 weeks.

Classifieds / 2000 AD free to good home in Sydney OZ.

Hi Guys,

Been a long time since I was here. For years I've been collecting 2000 AD and other related comics. Along the way I've picked up a huge amount of doubles. I've been thinking about getting rid of them for a while now but .....well I'm lazy and spending time listing them on ebay doesn't really appeal with me. So I never got up off my arse to move them.

So life goes on and my wife and I are expecting our first child in a few months and I realise it's really about time I got organised and cleared some space.

I'm too lazy to list them on ebay and I couldn't bear to bin them or take them to a 2nd hand bookstore, as I'd prefer someone who was into 2000 ad actually got them.

Now if there is anyone in Sydney, Australia after some free comics give me a yell and I'll hook you up. I haven't gone through the comics in years so I can't say what's in them. From memory there are a couple of hundred 2000AD doubles. I also want to get rid of the reprint comics: Best of 2000ad, Complete Judge Dredd, US Fleetway and Quality Comics reprints of which I think there may be a few hundred. All of these are in assorted condition. If I get any interest through this post I'll take a look and send you a more detailed listing.

Cheers

General / collectors in Sydney, Oz?
06 February, 2006, 11:56:23 AM
G,day guys,

I haven't been around here in a long time but I thought I'd check in.

I currently have in my collection several hundred doubles in assorted condition and am looking to get rid of them.

I could put them on ebay, but in australia tooth isn't that popular so I probably would get tghat much for them. So it would'nt really be worth my time and effort of sorting, them, listing them and then shipping them.

So I was wondering if there was anyone in Sydney that wanted all or some of them? I would prefer if someone who could come collect them as I'm back to square one if i have to pack and send them.

well anyone want some free thrills?

Help! / Re: Good things to do.
02 February, 2005, 07:02:40 PM
hi guys,

Thanks for your advice.

DD thanks so much for the offer. I may well take you up on that if Mel is comfortable with it.

We were already considering the Singapore Zoo. We're both big fans of good zoo's and taronga has been partially closed for the past year for refurbishment. So the night zoo would certainly give us our fix.

We're hoping to try everything unusal and different that we can so we're both really looking forward to Singapore.

I actually stopped over for a week when my family emigrated to Oz. I was a 7 yr old english boy and it was crazy!! I'd never seeen an asian person (except for the family who ran the chinese down the rd), bugs the size of my head or croc farms.

Can't wait for another culture shock!!

In Egypt we're doing a kumuka tour. Decided to do a tour rather than fly solo due to the culture/language barrier. We'll get to do all the things you guys have suggested including 2 night on a felucca.

In England we'll be spending most of our time in London (where our kiwi friends living) and the mersey area (where my family lives). Funnily enough I also have family in .......Coventry. So we'll be in the "stinking rectal pube " for a few days.

What sights would you guys suggest? I'm interested in hearing about the non traditional tourist sights, pop culture sights etc?

Help! / Good things to do.
28 January, 2005, 08:36:18 PM
G'day,

In October my partner and I will be travelling overseas. We're doing 2 night in Singapore, 2 weeks in Egypt and 2 weeks in England.
The main reason for going to the UK is to see my family (I haven't been there since 97 and it's the first time I've travelled there without my parents.) However we want to do and see a few things while there.....not really sure what though!

We'll probably see a few historical attractions but we're interested in doing a few cultural things.

We're both into films, music and comics (well ok she isn't but I think I could convince her to go to something comic related)

I'm keen to know if you guys have been to any galleries, museums, exhibitions etc that are music film , comic or pop culture related and if it was any good.

I'm wondering is dredd con usually in october?

Oh and Devon's Daddy adn TankGirl what would you recommend to do and see in Singapore. We've only got 2 days there so I want to plan ahead so not to waste time.

Thanks Guys.

Help! / Re: Design Ethics

Bit of  a delicate one there.

I don't know much about the legalities but I would assume if you pinched the design or a significant portion of it there would be a lot of trouble.

However If you approached the other designer to buy the rights or take him on board as co-producer he would be fairly likely to tell you to stick it! I can't see that he would have anything to gain by selling the design as you would be undercutting him. For you to undercut him you'd have to buy the desin for les than he was going to do it for. He would also lose the intellectual property rights and credit for his work which most designers abhor.

General / the complete collection.
20 November, 2004, 02:55:30 PM
G'day,

Back when I first started reading 2000ad I had this Grande idea of "a complete collection" comprising all things 2000ad (2000ad, the meg, all the uk and u.s reprints, graphic novels etc)

A while back I abandoned this idea and decided that a complete collection is every story printed.

Coupla questons:-

What does everyone else regard as complete collection?

Was there anything original in the reprints?

If you where looking at a collection with all the stories printed what would it contain?

Cheers

Matthew.
